Anyone around here into vinyl records?

What are you into? What got you started? Where do you buy from? What albums have you picked up recently?

I like Oldies, Classic Rock, Death Metal, IDM/Breakcore.

My last few new purchases were Origin - Echoes of Decimation, Venetian Snares - Meathole / Cavalcade of Glee and Dadaist Happy Hardcore Pom Poms, Dying Fetus - Descend into Depravity / Killing on Adrenaline / Purification through Violence.

I need something tangible if people want a cut of my paycheck. Vinyl is my anti-mp3. I’ve bought music online. I ended up burning it to a sharpie labeled CD. It feels soulless in comparison. I average about an album a week. Part of the fun is waiting for something to come in the mail. It helps my work week suck less.

I don’t play something once and toss it back into its pristine little NM sleeve. I don’t give a damn about buying an album and ripping it to mp3. I don’t think I’m a DJ. I don’t even have a good turntable. I’m too old to be a hipster kiddo.

Vinyl collector here.

Hardcore/Punk collector here, so most of my shit is in the form of 7".

I do collect the rare LPs, like I have Saturday Night Fever and the Grease soundtrack.

I have alot from 70s to 2000 era.
Alot of 90s death metal. Love to sell off what I have but it would take ages to take pics of it all. I havnet bought anything in years.
Some rare items I have are:
My Dying Bride-God is alone (573/1000)
Carcass-Symphones of Sickness (banned album art)
Carnage-Dark Recollections
Blind Illusion-The Sane Asylum
Aphex Twin-Druqks (180g) with postcards and poster
Emperor-Picture LP boxset (I added Prometheus which wasnt included in the original boxset)
In Flames-The Jester Race (Picture LP)

I must say the big album art looks awesome on LPs that was why I collected in the first place.

I do a little collecting. I have some limited pressed stuff like Finch's album "What it is to Burn" (only 1,000) were made. I'd like to get more stuff, but I usually don't go out of my way to look for stuff.

Some of the the Death Metal stuff is killing me. They do 1000 copy/single presses on most of it. I badly want a copy of Killing on Adrenaline on vinyl. The 500 press doesn't help. I got outbid on one for $45 and the lone eBay seller has it for $60.

How much did Druqks set you back? I remember it being expensive as hell. Cock/Ver10, Mt Saint Michel, and Avril 14th are my favorite tracks off that album.

Didn't know who this was. Looked it up and it reminds me of Deftones - although all of the comments on YouTube say not to compare them. Good deal.

I don't really collect I guess, gauging from the previous posts. I don't have any limited release stuff or even much newer stuff, just a lot of classic rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zeplin, etc), some 80's stuff I remember as a child (Huey Louis, Def Leppard, etc), and some other random stuff I've found and enjoy like the Beach Boys.

I love me some vinyl! I collect all hits from the 80's (regardless of genre), Drum'n'Bass music and Rave/Hardcore music from the early 90's.

If you saw my vinyl collection you would think I was a guy from the UK in his late 30's.

They actually started out as a Deftones cover band. They are a great band!

I don't so much collect vinyl as I hoard it. Back before I had any responsibilities and was much more active DJing, I was taking home $100 a week in 12"s and have only ever sold maybe 5-10 of them. It's just nuts.

There are a few in there that I'm really proud of. I have the K&D Sessions 4x12 (set me back about $140 and the instant the auction ended, someone offered me that + $40 to buy it, which I rejected). I also have BT's IMA and ESCM on vinyl. Finally, I also have the Hardkiss Delusions of Grandeur compilation. All of those still get played actively at gigs, even the K&D one. It's my opinion that records are meant to be played, not looked at.

I've even managed to get a few signed. I've met and gotten signatures from Tiesto (Control Freaks - Subspace Interference. That was funny, he was like "it's so OLD!"), Robbie Hardkiss (Little Wing - Lightheaded, signed as "Happy new year!" in the middle of the summer), and Q-Burns (He's a Skull, very cool guy, and really rocked the fuck out of that club when he spun).

I pick up only my favourite albums on vinyl, or stuff from constellation because they always put a lot of effort into their vinyl.

I'm still looking to get most of Bohren & the Club of Gore's output in vinyl form (subtle hint - nudge, nudge)

Thanks. I didn't realize it was that high to begin with.

I wish I had more of this. I have a couple of Pink Floyd Albums and Led Zeppelin II. I'd really like to pick up Houses of the Holy for No Quarter.

I'd also like to get Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys. All I have right now is a few compilation albums of them. It took me the longest time to finally come around with the BB. I guess it had something to do with my hatred for Kokomo. Check this out. It was on one of the albums I had. The guys are all ripping on each other.

Who do you like for DNB? I used to listen to Dieselboy back in the day. I don't know enough about the genre other than I like it.

That's a great link, I don't have Pet Sounds just a number of their other albums and greatest hits, but I do have Houses of the Holy and it is probably my favorite album cover.

I don't really collect. I've got a couple of limited releases the main being the ST to Black Dynamite and a Kraftwerk promo.

I mainly buy Hip Hop, various Techno and some random off shoot remixes. Maybe in a couple of years I'll have a worthwhile collection.

I'd really like to get DJ Krush harder to find stuff but don't know if I can justify the cost, that stuff seems to go for quite a bit. Maybe some mid and late 80s metal, Megadeth and Anthrax type of stuff as well. I dunno maybe a few punk records as well, Bad Brains and shit like that.

I am a musician and DJ in St. Louis - I play eclectic rock, experimental punk, noise rock, avant garde stuff. I began collecting about 4 months ago. Have about 50 records - lots of limited presses. Being into avant garde, noise rock and post punk mainly, mostly ALL of my records are limited presses or clear/colored vinyl. An addicting habit for sure!

I hate to use the word collect, but yes. I have stuff from David Bowie to Nine Inch Nails. Most of my music is from the mid 80s to mid 90s and most of it is industrial. Vinyl just has a better sound than digital audio does. Of course that differs depending on how it was recorder in the first place, but yeah... vinyl is fun stuff.

One of my most cherished vinyls is an original pressing of Charly by the Prodigy. This song is just too good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Qdp4hBYaa4

You still win in my book.

Yep. Great songs.

Charly must be pretty rare.

I think I have the CD single of SMBU too. The instrumental of one man army from the spawn soundtrack titled no man army is on it too, which is just as awesome as SMBU.

Sorry, collect may be a poor choice of words. I don't mean buying an album to toss on a shelf. I don't buy anything I don't intend to listen to. I need some NIN as well - especially Pretty Hate Machine and the Downward Spiral. I was bummed when Still wasn't available on vinyl. Don't know how you feel about Manson, but I was pretty stoked to get Antichrist Superstar.

Man, it's been forever since I've heard that. I'll go hunt down Fat of the Land if I can get it at a decent price.

I collect promo/radio release album versions.

As for everything else....a lot of classic rock and 80's. I also enjoy singer songwriters.

I listen to everything from Kraftwerk to Jim Croce. Most of the 80's music is stuff like Ultravox, Big Audio Dynamite, Quarterflash...etc..etc..
