It's idiots like you who made the difference between aes and mvs
Here is a pic of the side of my original 6 slot cabinet: READ IT!!!
The neo geo in general is an Advanced Entertainment System.

don't be a fool.

the AES/MVS acronyms are an elegant and foolproof method in which
to illustrate whether one is discussing the home console or
arcade cabinet in a simple three-letter form.

it is perfectly accurate, and it is also the accepted de-facto standard
among the NEO fanbase.

what is really needed is better clarification of these facts,
within easy reach, to prevent new NEO fans from becoming
confused. that means less elitism, and more open-armed
comradeship among the entire fanbase...

Who the fuck do you think you are you worthless doll fucking psycho? Who the hell do you think you're talking to here?

This site IS the Neo fan base you mouth-breathing pedophile. Don't waltz your fat no-pussy getting cheese-body in here and try and tell us what the fuck SNK was thinking when they made the Neo. Most people here have been playing Neo when you were still jerking off to dolls...oh, wait, bad analogy.

Point being, walk your ass out the way you came in and retreat back to your cave in your parents house you worthless, mindfucked doll kisser.

Look, I had no problem with you in the first place when you caught hell here - I refrained from commenting in that thread.

However, you need to learn to READ, you fuckwit! My Neo Candy 25 cabinet from Japan, an ORIGINAL MVS CABINET, says "Advanced Entertainment System" on it. While I personally am not nearly as vehement as Qube about the misnomer of the homecart system as "AES", you need to wake up, smell something other than your jizz on the hair of your doll collection, and realize that the homecart system wasn't "The" AES; the term is just as applicable to MVS. Truly, the homecart system doesn't have a name to distinguish it outside of "home" or "homecart"

Both Neo Geo AES and MVS are AWESOME! I have them both and use them both. However, I did buy the MVS to AES converter II from the Neo Geo store to help lower the costs of playing on the AES.

Getting all super excited and red in the face angry over Mr. Dollfucker is a bit like pulling out a switchblade cause a small retarded child stuck its tongue out at you. He's just not worth the energy.

SNK should have both systems dubbed MVS.
Leaving the only option to call one arcade system and the other home system.

I bet you would like that weirdo.

Here's the first problem. You're being shown irrefutable evidence that using AES to refer to Homecarts only is incorrect and YOU call someone a fool. Drop the doll, learn some manners and come back after you touch a real breast other than your mom's.

I have to admit, when I got back into Neo a few years ago, I was surprised that the home system/games were being called "AES". Back in the early 90's when I had a console (on loan from a friend for a while) I fell in love with it. When I grew up and got some $$$ I actually bought one of my own. I noticed that G4's ICONS Documentary even refers to it as AES. I call it that now just to save breath and confusion, but the home console will always be the "NeoGeo home console" and the games will always be "carts for the home console, aka home carts" to me....

For folks getting into the home console after it's "Hey Day", I could see why they are so damn adamant about calling it AES.....they came into the scene too late and got caught up in nomenclature created by people who weren't of the true Neo Generation.....their first impression will always be the bandwagon description.

http://neogeomuseum.snkplaymore.co.jp/english/whats/index.php

Official article on the official NEOGEO MUSEUM.
Officially translated from Japanese.

c&p for your easiest reference:

Now I'd like to get into some details about the "home console." To differentiate between the arcade's "MVS," it was named the "Advanced Entertainment System" (AES).
As mentioned before, NEOGEO spread the home console which having the identical spec to the arcade versions.
This unique and impressive quality also had its downsides however, primarily in the economic realm, as the AES was quite expensive for a home console. Due to this hurdle, the console was initially sold exclusively to rental video shops, where gamers who wanted to take the NEOGEO home for a spin had to rent whatever was available. This practice was not the norm for home game consoles, even back then, and is seen as quite an ambitious experiment.

Also:

originally, NEOGEO was the name for the home/rental console ONLY, while MVS was the only name for the arcade machine. Those who took a look to the official Japanese flyer from 1990 should know it well.

1 - That´s not the real SNK.

2- The original article is from Arcadia.

3- There are games missing from the title catalog, very professional job indeed, shows what kind of research effort was put into it.

Start NAM on an arcade machine the very first thing it will show up is the "NEO-GEO" boot up screen.

I can't say I've ever minded it, never seemed to cause any confusion or anything. It also seems to work the best out of the bunch and, outside of this forum, I rarely ever see a different term used now.

I have a feeling it was because of it being just slightly more friendly for ebay auction titles.

search on ebay for 'neo geo ngh' = 3 auctions
search on ebay for 'neo geo home' = ~40 (some falses, majority from same seller)
search on ebay for 'neo geo aes' = 349 auctions

Majority rules. :P

QFT

another ebay search:

neo geo aes: 803 items
neo geo homecart: 0 items
neo geo home cart: 53 items
ngh: 12 items

If enough people use a particular name, does it matter if it's technically incorrect?

I'd argue that it doesn't matter. It's just a nickname and I'd prefer one that is gererally used rather than one that is clung on to by a tiny minority.
