Mighty Final fight Ftw.
Guardian heroes

I can't stress enough how good Mighty final fight is as scrolling beat'em up, i think it excels the likes of Sor2 and the original Final fight by so much.

hey

what do you guys think of godhand?

I thought it sucked balls

I still consider Urban Reign as the, um reigning next gen beat'em up champion (but I'd still only give it a 7/10)

I got bored of Yakuza and the Warriors really quick

but anyway

Godhand?

good or bad

personally, I couldn't fucking stand it

but it seems to tickle a lot of people's pickles

I love Final Fight but I prefer the Punisher and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

Probably the best "new" scrolling beat-em-up I ever played is still Die Hard Arcade / Dynamite Deka on ST-V and Saturn - great game, just too short. The dreamcast sequel was ok, but I like the original better. However I still prefer Capcom's old 2d games to any 3d versions. Scrolling beat-em-ups rule in 2 player, along with the Metal slug and Bubble Bobble games they are my favourite types of co-ops.

For me, it would be Zombie Revenge, which I loved beyond all reason. That, and God Hand now. Did you get all the way through it, roker? It definitely grows on you.

And by the way, it's "Deka," not "Deku," you poseur. "Deku" is that Zelda stuff.

Weird this thread bumped when I was going to make a thread about Zombie Revenge.
I need to know: which division of Sega developed that game? I remember reading in EGM way back when it was first previewed and they said it was the first Western title for a survival horror (back when they thought it was that, I guess).

also, someone mail bruce the box art for Saturn Dynamite Deka
PA.06692.001.jpg

I remember when I bought it, I hadn't seen the art before and when I got it I laughed super hard.

ps dynamite deka rulez

I didin't like it at first, but once you really get the combat, it all falls into place. Some folks just "get" it and some don't. I would tell you to try t out again. I love Urban Riegn and this was just the icing on the cake.

I just downloaded a gang of songs from SOR 1&2 and FF 1&2 from Galbadia Hotel. Go there if you haven't, they got all the good shit!

Perhaps, I did own and enjoy them both... but I like the Die Hard Branding, and the first game seemed more playable to me. Mind you, I am slightly biased towards the ST-V and Saturn... lets just say those 2 games are teh only proper 3d scrolling beat-em-up games I'd consider replaying after completing them :)

I actually like God Hand. I picked it up on ebay a couple of months ago after reading an awesome review about it...I had just gotten back from a deployment and was starting to get back into gaming like I used to be. Anyways, God Hand plays pretty well, yeah some of the backgrounds are pretty shitty looking but the action is really intense. I stopped playing it about a month ago when I hit kind of a "stumbling block" on the pirate ship level...I had a really hard time with it. :blow_top:

Urban Reign is also another great game. I like how they implemented so many different movesets. Some of the character choices aren't that great (mostly the minor gang members), but for the most part, it's pretty awesome...hope they make a sequel.

As for beat em ups, most of my favorites are from the arcades, but there were a few good console games that were equally as great. Just some of my favorites:

Final Fight
Aliens Vs. Predator
TMNT series (arcade)
X-Men (arcade)
Brawl Brothers (SNES)
Two Crude (arcade)
Knights of Valour series (arcade)
Sengoku 3
Armored Warriors
Battle Circuit
Ninja Baseball Bat Man
Captain Commando
The Punisher
Streets of Rage

On the flip side of things, Final Fight: Streetwise was utter shit...avoid at all costs!

It's hard to come-into a thread this old and present something new, and I hope I won't get hazed for this one, but...

Nes_Karate_Kid.jpg

I honestly played the hell out of this game back in the NES days. It might be classified more as a "platformer" than a "side-scrolling beat-'em-up" but because it really just focuses around going from one side of the screen to the other, using hands and legs to beat through enemies, I'd be so bold as to say that it's somewhere in between. :p If I recall, the controls were rather bad (with a delay between button press and action) but what made the game most interesting was the random insertion of mini-games into the mix--something basically unheard-of in beat-'em-ups, save for the obligatory "break the car" stage--like "ice block breaking," "catch flies with chopsticks," and (if I recall correctly) "avoid the swinging pendulum/hammer."

It gave a different feel from Battletoads or TMNT, but back in the NES days, one took what he could get. :annoyed: On that note... FLYING WARRIORS?!

Sorry for the bump, but I'm HURTING for a good beat'em up these days...

Anything decent coming out?

Oh, and has anyone ever played THIS game before? It's not great, but I've played FAR worse...

EDIT: Scratch that, I just saw the rest of that clip....its a smattering of shit pressed onto a rom...forget it.

Great idea. I played Dynamite Cop in the arcade, and it seemed pretty-much like an improved version of the Die Hard Arcade engine without the Die Hard license. If anyone here liked Die Hard Arcade, you'll totally dig Dynamite Cop.

I need to go through this thread and compile a list of the games mentioned. A buddy of mine and myself are planning to start a regular Monday night gaming session revolving around playing beat-em-up's exclusively. Pretty much all of them are fair game, from the great (AvP, Final Fight, SoR2, etc.) to the extremely shitty (like Mug Smashers...oy).

Games like, Punisher, Aliens vs. Predator, Turtles in Time, X-men, Simpsons etc... is pretty much a damn good reason for me to find an arcade cab to deck out. Since now, Konami and Capcom will have to get licenses to re-release these titles thanks to Marvel etc... I might as well get the PCBs and play them in their wondrous glory.

CUMP!

Sorry do dig this one out from the crap pile, but has anyone ever tried the hilariously shitty Metamorphic Force?.

Jesus F. Christ, it's worth the download just to play the French Canadian lumberjack who fights with a LOG and transforms into a werebear when he's pissed.

And the soundtrack?? Don't worry: it rocks your mothers box. Some of the most radical speed guitar I have ever heard can be found on the first stage....and it carries on right to the end where you fight the last boss, Omega Jesus.

Having said that, are there ANY new games (import or otherwise) where you can team up with a nigga and just stomp the comp? Or was MK: Shaolin Monks the last time they ever did this?

Sadly, Mr. Spoon from 2008, I regret to inform you that 2 years into the future there is still fuckall in the ways of beat'em ups. :oh_no:

It all started 1 day ago:
I found the rom for Gekido: Kintaro's Revenge and things were looking up.

At first....

4 minutes in and I could already see a nightmarish world of fucking shit behind the pleasing aesthetics.
Gekido was like a beautiful woman with a vagina full of scorpions.

There is a line between "hard" and "fucking bullshit" and by the second level they fucking blew past that line like a nervous white guy at downtown Detroit intersection at 3:02 am.

While driving a solid gold Bentley.

Remember those shitty parts of Final Fight where a bunch of Wong Whos, O'Briers and other fatasses bullrushed you while those red fags chucked dynamite all over the screen and 2 Andore's piledrove you ass whenever 2 or three tranny's weren't kicking you in the nuts?

DO YOU?!

Well try doing all that with bats divebombing your head, with a rolling log of spikes on the ground and spike traps dropping from the ceiling and knocking you back whenever you tried to move around, then add two fags who ONLY take damage when their weapon leaves their hands....and it's a boomerang that flies away for 3 seconds lol.

So yeah. BUMP.
Nothing new these days?

Also:
and it carries on right to the end where you fight the last boss, Omega Jesus.

Had to look this up to see what I was talking about. Yeah, he does look like "Omega Jesus". Good call.

Fag.

The genre's on life support. There's always the JP simple series games.

And today we have Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble for the PSP which isn't too shabby of a game.

Does anybody know where I can buy or steal a copy of Age of Wanderer/Yainsidae? It's a Korean beat em up for PC based on a TV drama that seems to have stolen a bunch of sprites from fighting games. Even the demo would be cool.
