No joke.

I have combed all the ethnic specialty supermarkets I possibly can --- Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese --- and none of them carry canned scallops. The recipe that calls for it is from a Japanese cookbook, but the Japanese supermarket carries no such product, go figure.

If anyone has sighted such a product, or know where I may find one, please PM me.

red sauce might be incompatible?

if you tried google this one came up quick http://www.tienda.com/food/products/se-88.html?CMP=KNC-Google&gclid=CL31xaCn5J8CFQTxDAodk1JqGg
Pick the grocer you like the most and ask them to get you some. You might try some restaurants if you don't want to wait. Sorry if my suggestions are dumb but I've got nothing better to do

Apparently there are some sketchy ones you don't want: The inspectors of Primorye's department of Rosselkhoznadzor revealed that the canned scallops contained three times the allowable norm of cadmium. ...

There is an asian market not to far from me. I will see if I can stop by there tomorrow and see if they have any.

Why do they have to be canned? I'd be interested in seeing the recipe. Feel free to PM me if you like.

My co-worker said in Japan they sometimes refer to bottled products as canned. You might be looking for bottled scallops in the refridgerated section.

This is posted in the wrong forum. Please move to the Arcade Trading Section.

Did I do that right?

Yeah, I've considered that possibility, so I've just kept my eyes peeled at all times for both canned and bottled products, but no luck so far.

Can't believe it --- nimono recipe sunk for want of a hotate kanzume.

Still want canned or bottled scallops --- I hope this will not require my scouring supermarkets in Taiwan or Japan or summat.

A recipe that calls for an ingredient that doesn't exist. I love it.

You could use fresh scallops. Really...the only difference between a fresh product and it's canned form is that it is usually loaded with artificial colorings, flavorings, preservatives, and completely devoid of any nutritional value. Other than that, they are identical.

(Also, don't forget the up to 5% "other" that they are legally allowed to get away with(according to the FDA's impecable standards) which may constitute any thing from insect legs to rat testicles. )

I searched, dude, I really did. I even live in an area where getting seafood is as easy as heading out to the beach or water and getting it yourself. No dice.
