Surely some-one must have some answers? I think its a very worth while question. Why should collections be only limited to software?. There are many hardware collectors out there and this info for SNK hardware would be very useful.

Thanks.

There’s also a Korean home cartridge system. My records show that I’ve come across 6 of them so far.
http://www.neostore.com/A-V-cable-p/786.htm

Check out the cool Korean text above the Neo-Geo logo. I do wish I held onto one of those, haven’t come across a Korean AES system in years, the previous listing was 9/17/2005. I bet there are some left in North Korea that haven't made their way across the border yet.

You have a great idea. If you want to take the initiative to create a comprehensive Neo-Geo hardware guide then we’d be happy to host it for you. If you have a copy of FrontPage or Web Expression then you can have user friendly server access and you’ll get a nice custom rank to boot.

Here we go, the following is part of my 'NeoGeo Collector Bible' which I'm writing since some years now. :)

As for hardware, you basically have:

Console:
1) White box, green striped console NEO-0 (original rental version)
2?) White box, red striped console NEO-0 (unconfirmed, actually just postulated)
3) White box, red striped NEO-AEC (original overseas version, possibly sold in JPN also)
4) Black box version (final retail version)

Controllers:
1) White box, green striped joystick NGL-0 (original rental version)
1.1) White box, red striped mahjong controller NGMJ-0 (same for rental and retail version)
2) White box, red striped joystick NGL-0 (original JPN retail version)
3) White box, red striped NEO-AEC (original overseas version, then worldwide final version)
4) NGCD Controller (joypad, black box)
5) NGCD Controller PRO (joystick, black box)
6) Hori Fighting Stick NEO
7) Hory Fighting Stick NEO II

note: both versions of the HORI fighting stick were unlicensed by SNK, who sued HORI for copyright infringement and eventually lost on court.

I have also full data on all other periphals and pricing, but I'm kind of too lazy to gather all of them now.

Keep in mind that all the original set of hardware had a price shift on the 'second launch' of the machine on 7/1/1991 (the consumer launch) in regard of their original prices since 4/26/90 (the original rental launch).

Interesting..
First we should concentrate on the hardware released in Japan..
You state there are 3 versions of the JAPAN AES hardware (white box) and one retail box.

There are actual 3 different versions of the retail box released in Japan:
1)NEO GEO AES original model (3 red stripes on back)
2)NEO GEO AES original model (3 red stripes on back, blue triangle in bottom left and green rectangle in top right)
3)NEO GEO AES Latest model (picture of new kidney stick on the back)

BTW, the front looks identical on all three of the versions

I have pics, but not sure how to insert them. Send me your email via a pm and I will send them to you

Do you have pictures you could send to me?

I beg your pardon, I think the final retail version for the AES possibly changed even more times to be updated in the games screenshot printed on the back.

Can you include if these are PAL/NTSC and what power (9v / 5v) they are? Are there any other differences in the hardware?

Not really aware of the voltage. My power adapter for my JAP AES says:

Input: AC100V 50-60Hz 19VA
Output: DC 10V 1000mA

not sure where you got 5v/ 9v from?

Just now?

I can't seem to understand that passion you guys share for details such as these, I find it irritating and useless.

I can appriciate your view, however many people are completely obsessed when it comes to collecting (me included), things like different box designs etc, make a big difference, as we "gootta have them all". So with that in mind, this guide was meant to help out with this as information to whats available out there.

Thanks.

i can see your point,

but to be honest, its just like history, its useless but we still have documented history of our pass like world war etc etc...bla bla bla

although i find history boring there are ppl who find it interesting.

Well, you know what I mean, is just like the pink duffle bag thread.

We are more than just mere fools that drool over engineering deicisions made by common man that lack organization hence so much riff raff with the hardware. There has to be a line were common sense and obsession must be drawn. Are we just drones that follow things such as this to the most miniscule detail? Mind you this sort of things are merely after thoughts, nothing more than cataloging nicks and nacks for different regions.

I am all about the beauty that is the Neo and SNK but when it comes to mindless documenting of things as insignificant as this I cannot help but to voice my opinion about it, there's no shame in admitting truth in something like this, you know this is utterly useless knowledge that barely keeps afloat any sort of interest for the sake of the hobby.

Well, that's just my opinion though, I am from time to time wrong but I hardly think that's the case this time around.

We are more than this.
