Would you be willing to live in a house where a confirmed murder happened?

I don't believe in ghosts or hauntings in the slightest so as long as the culprit isn't hiding in the attic and the blood stained carpet has been replaced I couldn't care less.

Nope, I don't think so. Ghosts or no ghosts, living somewhere where I know someone was killed is something that'd be a bit much for me to take, as I know it'd always be on my mind. There is no way I could live comfortably knowing there is that much negative energy in my home, and that I could be standing where someone took their last breath.

Umm..it's Red Rum isn't it?

Guess I'm the only Simpsons fan here. There was an episode where Marge became a Realtor a sold a house to Ned Flanders that was were a notorious murder happened in Springfield. She goes to the house to tell them the truth and sees the family covered in what looks like blood. Ned tells them they were painting Todd's room red to which he says, "Red room...red room..." sorry for the confusion.

Correct...

Correct only to someone who isn't a Simpsons fan... :loco:

I thought about something like this recently. Suppose your parents died in their house and you inherited it. Would you live in it? (Assuming that it was all from natural causes, and your parents house would be considered an upgrade to whatever you have currently)

I'm not in that situation, but I'm sure one day in a decade or two I may very well be... kinda creepy, I don't think I'd want to.

Although, for some reason I don't think I'd have too much trouble living in a murder house if I didn't know the person.

Yes, who cares?

Is the bogey man, Yahweh, Hashem or L. Ron Hubbard going to think less of me? Who gives a shit. Same for Feng Shui-tsu or whatever.

Besides, its like that famous scene from The World According to Garp, its already happened --so no more worries about it eventually happening.

[The clip is worth seeing]

It honestly boggles my mind how anyone can believe in ghosts or negative energy or karma or anything like that.

I was watching one of those ghost hunter shows earlier because I was too lazy to change the channel.

That shit is so completely stupid.

That they air such shows on television is an insult to anyone with even half a brain. But then again, Television caters to the lowest denominator - period.

I need to become a psychic and scam my way to wealth.

I was looking for a pic from a different Simpsons episode where they were house shopping. I remember they looked into a house where the cops were still going over the crime scene. Marge yelled out "Oh dear!" when she saw the words "I'll be back" written in blood on a wall. Couldn't find it, so I gave up.

Back on topic, I would live in a house where a murder took place.

I never figured you for the superstitious type, Merc.

I've had more than a few paranormal experiences in my life, so I'm a firm believe in this sort of thing. Even Astral Projected "at will" for a brief period in the late 90s prior to joining a Buddhist Sect before moving onto Christianity. The spirit realm and demons are very real. As is the energy left behind that in a sense time stands still for even when we've moved forward on in this physical realm. After a bad astral experience where I and two others basically ended up in what I would only describe as Hell... well I don't ever want to deal with that shit.

Sure, more or less anywhere a development goes up is on some burial ground or something, but there's a difference when a bad (known) murder or even slaughter occurs. Bad juju, paranormal freeze frames, etc. Then there's the physical realm problem of simply, the house you move into where __ person was murdered has people from their past that now is your problem. Be it others out for get back or those not in the know and they don't believe you don't know anything about them or where they moved to. Now you've got yourself a Suburban/Urban nightmare where YOU might be forced to kill. And wouldn't that be a hoot if in such a scenario you ended up killing and let the bodies hit the floor in the same spot, in the cold cold ground, where many had gone.

The store unit I work in was the scene of a rape/murder 10 years ago before we took over the unit.

Once you've seen the other side of things. It's hard not to believe.

Also not all activities are "ghosts" in the sense ppl think of them as. You have to understand the realm of timelessness, or what Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist have pegged as Kuon Ganjo: (Time without Beginning). Basically TIME in and within itself is infinite yet is put a spiral, existing as both past, present and future all at once. Therefore where you stood say at age 4 as a kid, guess what? You're still there. You are you now but you're still there. Any relatives etc, who have died are still alive, not in our physical realm of linear time, but they are still alive, while we have moved forward.

Thus when you hear of people who speak to the dead in places. Not always so. Often it is you physically taking up the same space as the people who died in our worldline as it exist in the present, but the energy left behind at that point is still there. If you are an esper, (meaning higher sensory perception) and even moreso a spiritual person... you could in fact FEEL and even hear those people and have discussion. They would not however know they are dead, to our timeline they are, but they are not. This extends to the multiple yous and me that are also out there. But that's a whole other discussion and I'm still recovering from the flu, so... But yeah. I was born 20 seconds ago, I AM right now, and have already died. I just haven't caught up to the point (in this realm) where I'm dead. Yet I've just begun.

Just because you think stuff like this is mumbo jumbo, doesn't make it any less true. In this way there are similarities between various religions and Shaman's have been on the Vision Quests from day one.

I must've missed that story around here.

As for the house, probably if everything was completely cleaned out for me to move in and settle down for some time.

True. Actually, one of the more entertaining documentaries about haunting comes on the game disc for The Suffering. Interesting stuff about a purportedly haunted prison. Complete BS, but very entertaining.

Cold spots, manifestations, all that stuff. SHC makes more sense than anything paranormal or supernatural.

Sure, except you haven't. No one has. They may think they have. They may even believe it with every fiber of their beings, but they haven't.

Just because you think stuff like this is mumbo jumbo, doesn't make it any less true.
Truth is for philosophers. I'm interested in facts. And there is not one whit of empirical evidence for the existence of any "other side." It is impossible to prove the non-existence of something, but the default position of any rational being must first be that of the skeptic. When someone claims something to be, all around must say, "Prove it," or lose all credibility.

Every idea exists to be attacked from every conceivable angle, relentlessly and unceasingly. If it survives, it will come out the stronger, more refined and honed. No aspect of spirituality can stand up to this kind of scrutiny. Spirituality is not exempt from this. Such anecdotal evidence as has been offered up to support a spiritual position is not a valid argument.

Is it possible to get creeped out over nothing in particular? Absolutely. The brain is remarkable at lying to itself. Human beings have a great talent for shutting out things it doesn't want to deal with. But there are no gooses walking over graves, so to speak. The burden of proof lies with the proclaimer, not the skeptic.

If I could land the house at a discount because of the murder, absolutely.

I don't believe in ghost, it's all silly shit to sell horror books and movies.

Abso-frickin-lutely!

Only one that would keep me from doing it is some suspected mob/gang hit. I know that if there was a murder, they've done their job and will probably never go back. But who knows, maybe they stashed something there and if that's the case, I wouldn't want to be the homeowner there.

Heh, that might be a little off-putting:

"...and here's where Stacey, still bleeding from the stab wounds she received during the rape, tripped over the railing as she tried to make it down the stairs to escape. Whoops! They still haven't been able to smooth out that dent in the hardwood floor where she landed. --Anyway, despite the now-broken leg..."
