I think I prefer the 360 to the PS3

I have a JP Elite 360 Jasper and a US PS3 60GB. I feel confident my 360 is not going to break down and if it does, I will be just as surprised as if my PS3 was to breakdown.

Anyhow, all the ad-on crap the 360 needs is hardly a big deal to me. In regards to the noise, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, and I know allot of you have 20+ games, but you can rip an entire 360 game to the HDD. That eliminates all sounds. So that's what I do and it's a perfect set up for myself. That being said, I have an extra 120GB HDD if anyone's in the market.

The interface on the PS3 isn't eye catching to me, it seems like there's simply just allot more going on with the 360 online. PS3 is a cool media center I guess. But I don't need to integrate it to my gaming. So that being said, I guess I have a PS3 60GB system for sale too. :glee:

I have both consoles, but I only fire up my PS3 to play Blu-ray discs and for Rock Band 2 purposes.

I'm thinking that the PS3 doesn't have enough really good games...360 seems to have quite a few, like Gears of War, I wish I could play that.

How come there aren't so many good exclusives on the PS3? Is it the graphics or because it's really really expensive to make a game for it?

I simply don't understand why some people think the PS3 doesn't have any good games.

Uncharted, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles, Ratchet and Clank Future, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, inFamous, LittleBigPlanet... Those are all games that easily match the best 360 exclusives, and I'm not even taking the games that are coming out in the next couple months (or next week in the case of Uncharted 2) into account.

It's not like people don't talk about those games all the time, too. Sheesh.

It's the trendy thing to do. Also, people like to pretend cross-platform titles don't exist on the PS3.

Xbox 360 only has one exclusive franchise that really keeps it viable for me, and that's Mass Effect. Shadow Complex was also a lot of fun. They're both good systems, but I would personally be much more loath to give up the PS3, if I had to choose.

I didn't hear that. Also, The Simpsons hasn't been broadcast since 1999 as far as I'm concerned. Michael Jackson is a homo... wait he's awesome and was a real inspiration to me.

I purchased the PS3 to mainly have Blu-Ray access and for the exclusives that I was looking forward to (KZ2, MGS, GOW3). I don't play enough online or in general, otherwise I'd have both systems. Even then, once Cave shmups start hitting without region lockout, I'll have to get a 360 regardless.

But I too don't understand why cross-platform releases are usually treated as 360 exclusives. Perhaps it's because of the extra DLC or just surrounding hype. Either way, both systems have a great stable of exclusives and for me the PS3's lineup is more in tune with my past gaming interests.

Sincerely,

Mikhail

I see a lot of people favor the multi-platform games on the 360 due to one reason : Xbox Live.

Whether it's substantially better than PSN, I don't know.

The only PS3 games I've played online were triple exclusives :emb:

And it will probably stay that way simply because I've got more friends with an Xbox 360 and I place a high value on competitive multiplayer and online cooperative play.

I used to do the same, but the unreliability of the 360 has caused me to get multi-platform titles on the PS3 if all things are equal. I got Fallout 3 for 360 because of the DLC, but I'm gonna get Brutal Legend on the PS3.

I will get Borderlands on 360, though, mostly because most of you guys are gonna do the same if you don't go the PC route. But that's become the exception for me.

PS3 took too long to be interesting but it's there now.

If I had to pick (and I don't but will for the sake of this thread) I'd choose the 360.

More games I like and the Netflix interaction seals it.

I didn't say there aren't any, I said there aren't so many. There's a difference.

I prefer the 360 over the PS3, for 3 main reasons :

1) Library :

I'm a big fan of shmups and dating-sims, and the 360 is the de facto current-gen console for both of those genres. Many of those games are either 360-exlusive, or have the better version on the 360. Aside from that, the 360 has a bunch of other exclusives that I really enjoy, such as : Lost Odyssey, Halo 3, and Pac-Man CE. Additionally, the 360 versions of multiplatform games tend to look and/or perform better than the PS3 versions.

2) Xbox Live

I prefer XBL over PSN for many reasons : parties, cross-game invites, cross-game chatting, not having to manually synch my achievements all the time, being able to see if the friends of my friends like the same games I do, the way DRM is handled, being able to send & receive messages/friend requests and manage my friends list over the xbox.com site, and I know more people with 360's than PS3's.

3) Warranty

Yes, the 360 isn't as reliable in general, but a longer warranty is a longer warranty. More importantly, I know that MS will accept and repair my Japanese 360 without issue. But it's extremely unlikely that Sony would acccept and repair my Japanese 60gb PS3, and even if they did I'd have to pay $150, and even then it's unlikely that they'd send me a Japanese one (and hopefully there's no disk stuck inside of it if that happens, since it's likely that they wouldn't give me the disk back). I hope I never get the YLOD, though I wouldn't mind another RROD before my warranty expires.

Still, I do like the PS3. The XMB is a really nice interface, online play is free, I like Trophies more than Achievements (except for the synching thing and its late introduction), more reliable (so far), and there's a hand-full of exclusives that interest me. Also, in the case of my 60gb model, being able to play all of my PS2 and PS1 games.

It will be hilarious when Sony gets licensing fees from Microsoft games. They could effectively choke them out once they've started using the Blu-Ray drive - maybe MS will develop their own disc format like Ninty did with the gamecube. I wouldn't be surprised.

MS will probably use a modified HD-DVD drive (one that can't play HD-DVD movies) for their next console. Since it's a dead format, they won't have to pay licensing fees to anyone.

inFamous and LittleBigPlanet aren't my type of games and the others are great games. I prefer fighters and RPG's. At the moment the 360 is better than the PS3 in that department.

That's fine, but surely you can concede that those games are worth playing, at least for some people. So saying the PS3 has no games is just crazy. Not enough games for you, well, that's another thing entirely.

lol MGS4. I played it, it wasn't worth the hype. LBP got boring after a while. Valkyria isn't my thing. The others, not interested.

It's all about taste.

the 360 is definitely better, period.

i never owned an xbox. i was given one back in 2001 when it was 2weeks away from the south-east asia release. the ironic thing is i didn't even want it. you might wonder but i worked for a gaming publication during 01-03.

i still can't believe that i even went on cnbc asia and said good things about it on tv.

if i had to say anymore about my dislike for anything microsoft, attacks towards me on my fanboy-ism behavior might be inevitable.

i am speaking on a stand where it's just games and nothing else.

Generally:

1: Most multiplatform games either looked the same for both, or the 360 has the superior version ftw. (i.e the latest NBA Live, or Resident Evil 5)

2: Online play is definitely better with the XBL infrastructure.

3: MS's strategy towards the world (sans Japan) seems about right as you could see that they're definitely trying to make gaming seem like a 'general past time' to consumers rather than trying to convert hardcore enthusiasts.

4: With point 3 in mind, the original Xbox always had the superior version over the PS2's. (look at Sonic Heroes for example) You can say that it came out way later than the PS2 and had much advantage in terms of hardware. what bout' the 360? How can the PS3 perform poorer in terms of cross platform graphical aesthetics?

5: For every 5 avid gamer, only 1 owns both systems. 3 of them has the 360 alone, and the last guy has just the PS3.

Still,

I'm with Sony.

I played it, I have the right to an opinion.

Certainly. And I'm not saying you're wrong to be underwhelmed by it. I thought it was stellar, myself. No big deal.

But any opinion expressed in the form of "lol ______" is just childish and crass. It comes off more as flamebait than a legitimate opinion.

How can the PS3 perform poorer in terms of cross platform graphical aesthetics?

Poor and/or lazy programming, pure and simple. It's obvious that the PS3 has loads of technical power under the hood. Whether or not developers are willing to devote the time and effort necessary to harness it is another story.

Well, I can't add MS points on the web or on the console, using 4 different credit cards from three different banks. I have a US XBL account and the credit cards are US. I called the bank, I called MS and they said there's no hold on my account. It's just a mystery. That's a point against MS for me, personally. Can't even buy games if I want to at the moment.

for sure. such a rampant issue on the ps3 now that it slipped my mind until you said it.

/me continues to look forward to the day when the PS3 will have noticeably superior versions of cross platform games.

It never worked for me unless every bit of information entered was perfectly identical to that on the card/bank account. Absolutely no deviation allowed whatsoever.

not really.

the 360's gpu is capable of more compared to the ps3. its a newer shader model among other things.

some of this can be made up for using the additional processing of the ps3's cpu, but thats unreasonable. no one programs like that nor should they really be expected to. you can unload certain things to the cells like physics processing, but the bulk of the real graphics work still needs to be done by the gpu and the 360's is simply better.

the biggest complaints are with framerate and tearing (fill rate), lighting (shader models), and texture quality (vram, pixel pipes.) 360 does all these better.

it has also been seen for a long time on pc's ati vs nvidia. ati typically gives you a better looking picture vs nvidias better processing power. the thing is the ati chipset in the 360 is also half a generation ahead of the ps3's nvidia one.
