I've never heard of anyone hating Secret of Mana's battle system. I think you're crazy.

Mana is my Favorite RPG of all time... I used to say it was tied for first with Final Fantasy IV, but it really is #1.

Graphics = better
Story = equal
Music = better
battle system = better (realtime > ATB)

all that hit-wait-hit stuff is really stupid. and if you have bad luck you end up in a corner and the enemies keep knocking you down as soon as you try to stand up. using magic is ok, but the sword(spear- etc.)fighting is just not my cup of tea.

I haven't hooked it up in a while, but I've got the same system I've had since 1992. Something near a hundred games for it too, many of them excellent. This and the NES I keep forever.

I've only had that problem very rarely. Sounds like you need to level up more. The more you level, the better chance you'll automatically block, and you won't be completely knocked down my enemy hits.

If you're getting knocked around continuously by enemy attack you should think about going back to an easier area and spending time to gain a few levels... or did you just give up on the game near the beginning?

there are many great consoles and thousand of great games
so let's leave it at that

right now i'm playing (again) dragon quest V and alcahest
of course i use emulators for games that were never officially translated or simply to try out unknown games
it's nice to discover a new one through emulators and then go out and buy the real thing

seiken densetsu 2 is probably the most boring adventure game ever
everything's about is so average and bland and uninspired
just lame battles after lame battles and then more boring battles

considering that the sfc is probably THE console for adventure / rpg games..
praising seiken densetsu 2 should be considered a crime
so i feel sorry for you people mentioning "secret of mana"

final suggestion : fushigi no dungeon 2 furai no shiren

I miss playing my SNES. I haven't played it in a long time, I still have my complete system I bought used the first day I arrived to this country. It was the first thing I did when I arrived, I bought Fatal Fury Special and Knights of the Round Table. I remember the system costed me 95 bucks complete in box and everything pretty mint.

Those were the days man!

I remember being the kid that didn't have a SNES or a Genesis even, around 91-92. A lot of my friends had one or the other. I wanted one for Christmas and I got a TG-16 instead. Don't get me wrong, the TG-16 is a good system, but damn I really wanted a SNES.

There were these twins that lived down the street with one when I lived in the officers housing on the Navy base in Puerto Rico. Playing games like UN Squadron, Final Fight, Actraiser, Mario World and Zelda at their house was some good times. They were 14 and I was around 10 at the time, so they would kinda pick on me a little, but I didn't care :glee: .

I finally got a core system for $90 in April 94. I got it with the mail-in rebate to get Mario Allstars for free and saved up $74 a little later to get Super Metroid. I was in walking distance from a game rental store, so most my money was spent on SNES games. I only owned those two games along with, Killer Instinct, Actraiser, UN Squadron, Final Fantasy 3, Dracula X and Mega Man X for those first 2 years. It wasn't till later in 99-2000 when I bought a shit ton of games.

I bought my SNES Aug of 1992...before that I rented one until I could afford to buy one. I clearly remember picking it up as well as Final Fantasy II and a used 19" color TV for my bedroom as if it were yesterday...I played FFII until my fingers bled.

My freshmen year of high school was the best...me and my buddies destroying games like Super Mario World, Turtles in Time, Final Fantasy, Actraiser, Contra, Smash TV, UN Squadron, Zelda, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Street Fighter II, F-Zero, Castlevania...I could go on forever, the games back then seemed to keep coming and coming...one great title after the next, it was amazing. I had the SNES and my buddy had the Genesis, we always has something to play...

You know, I could see myself selling off my Saturn one day. I really could.

The SNES? Nah. Even if I fall out of games 99%... there will still always be a little kid inside me who enjoys these games and memories. It truly was a great time, and the games still hold up remarkably well today IMO. A "keeper" of a system if there ever was one :)

My first one vanished mysteriously from our living room in the early '90s. I woke up one morning to play Super Mario World, and all the cords were there but the console was gone. At first I thought I might've done something bad and my parents took it away, but they said they hadn't seen it. All the doors and windows in the house showed no signs of a break-in. To this day I still don't know what happened to it.

My second system was destroyed by my mom in a fit of rage when I got a few bad grades on my report card. I just happened to be playing it when she came in to grill me, and it became an easy scapegoat target. "THIS THING IS FROM HELL!!" she yelled as she hurled it into my solid oak desk. It had no chance.

I got my third a one year later. I saved up some money in junior high and bought one off a friend. I was always a little bummed with that system, since it tended to always show minor graphical glitches (even with thorough cleaning). Since the friend was moving away, I never got to confront him at school and shout "You give me bad system!!!"

Cut forward in time to 2007. I was going through some old boxes in my parents' garage when I discovered a nylon zip-up bag. Inside was the now-yellowed wreckage of my old SNES #2. They hadn't thrown it out after all! SouthtownKid was saying these things are built like tanks, and guess what? It still worked perfectly, despite its rough cosmetic shape. I transplanted the guts into the shell of my newer semi-defective SNES #3, creating one perfect system. Surprisingly, all the broken shards were still in the nylon bag, so I puzzled the shell pieces back together with some glue and installed the semi-defective guts. Then I donated it to the local thrift store. Am I a bad person?

I always hated the SNES/SFC. Slow processor, and terrible, terrible sound chip.

I'll stick to the Z80, thanks.

Never was a fan of the SNES.

Except for a few titles like R-Type III, Bio-Metal, and Axelay, the rest can mostly burn in the graveyard/hell or whatever. :emb:

Edit: You can say that the SNES soundchip was better voicesample wise, that's true but the Genesis could do better music.

Then again it's my opinion. :P

The SNES is one of these consoles that I will always have fond memories of, I had such great times when it was first released back in the nineties , but since I don't own a SDTV anymore it's kinda pointless to buy it again.

As much as I hate to admit, the best way to enjoy SNES games are by using the Wii's Virtual Console, or by using emulators (a PC hooked to the HDTV).
