By the way, the achievements for this game are terrible. Absolutely uninspired.

I just realized this game comes out on 07/08/09 On XBLA.

Is it Wednesday yet?

Oh MY Gods damns dudes, just realized that Wednesday is tomorrow. We need to have a battlefield NEO-GEO party. I've been spending way too much Microsoft Points. I'm looking forward to some online killin'.

Anyone DL this yet? Supposedly the EA servers are massively overloaded at this point (acc to the awesomeness that is the collective at GF) and most people are having trouble getting into games, be it trial or full version. EA is adding servers as fast as they can, according to the little screen crawl, I guess.

I just checked the "New Arrivals" tab on XBLA and it's not even listed there.

If you go to MS' website, however, the game is listed for as sale + and downloadable in marketplace (am I the only one who purchases XBL/A content on MS' site. It's easier, and you can redeem MS Space Bucks cards on their too - plus you can purchase shit when you aren't near your 360.)

I'm going to purchase it on their site, and then see if it gets added to my download queue on my 360.

Okay, so I went to the MS Battlefield 1943 website and was able to purchase BF1943 and when I turned on my 360 the download had begun.

This is a gold member exclusive (for some reason) so if you don't have a full membership looks like you wont be able to download it for awhile...not that not being able to play it online would be worth it or anything.

It's around 550MB in total. Will be seeing if I can get online with it once the D/L finishes.

I don't get home till later tonight. I just hope this game doesn't disappoint at all besides the shitty achievement list.

I couldn't get it from my 360 last night so I ended up using the website to download it and had no problems. Got it at 2am pacific time. The trail was lag free, but so far I've only had one match in the full game that was really playable. I'm digging the scout class a lot and flying the planes is extremely satisfying. Achievements are a joke- I think I already have about half of em. Hopefully they get the servers issue sorted soon, but I'm glad its doing better than anticipated.

I checked on the Marketplace on regular old XBL at lunch, no dice. I'm assuming it may have been pulled off of that purchasing venue, temporarily, and jsut be on the website for now until the rest of the new EA servers are ready to roll, maybe?

Will be curious to see how everything plays for you when your DL finishes.

I checked repeatedly last night (on my Xbox AND the website), even around 2AM PST but didn't see it up!

Alright let us know!

I checked 10AM Est and it wasn't there, ill have to do the online way it seems to get it.

The gold member exclusive thing makes sense since its an online only game, can't play with a silver acct.

Good point. Does BF1943 feature the ability to be played offline ala the original BF1942? If not, then it being a Gold Exclusive makes sense. At least they don't want silver members to get shafted.

This download is going slow as balls.

Not sure if it's a problem on MS' end or if someone else in my house is using up all the bandwidth.

No, this one only allows online, no offline at all. Can't even use bots to fill remaining spots in a match, which I assume could be annoying, like if someone quits just when a match is almost set.

edit: I guess I should mention that my participation in this thread is my inferred intent to say that I'll be playing this whenever it's up and running properly- anyone want to add me, I'd sure as hell be down- jro3000. I'll talk dirty to you whenever you're on my team as an added bonus.

Yea its online only. Also there is no real need for bots. The matches shouldn't be locked so people can leave and join as they please. That's always how Battlefield has played.

So what makes this worth getting excited over?

I know little of the series but from trailers it doesn't strike me as anything other than your typical FPS.

Blasphemy!

But to help you out here Joe, i'll sum things up:

The games in Battlefield Series are FPS of course, but they feature very, very large maps, generally vehicles (some maps more than others) including aircraft and BF1942 had larger ship such as destroyers and aircraft carriers.

The series features class based gameplay, but the number of classes has been reduced for BF1943.

The game isn't a standard deathmatch, rather it's called "Conquest Mode."

Basically there are a number of points on the map (control points/flags/objects/whatever you want to call them) that each side is trying to control. You capture a point similar to how you do in other games, TF2 for example.

Each team has a number of "tickets" which is basically just a number, usually around 200. The goal is too reduce your opponents tickets to zero, which you do by holding control points and getting kills.

Holding all the control points, and killing every member of the entire team instantly results in a win as well.

You really need to just play a game in the series ('42, 'Nam, of BF2) to get the gist of it. They're all really fun, but 1942 is the best.)

As the player you get points for kills and captures, so you can be the leader on your team (theoretically) by getting no kills.

Also, generally the player count is very high. I liked to play 32 player matches of BF1942, 'Nam, and BF2 but the option existed to have up to 64 players.

So solid teamwork is a must (especially when you're dealing with vehicles that require two person to work effectively) and it really feels like you're in a huge kickass battle, fighting over territory rather than just running around some dark hallways trying to kill some douchebag.

SO FUN.

One last note, the emphasis is on gameplay rather than realism, so the previous titles (particularly 1942) have been very arcade/action oriented - though they've got slightly more "realistic" as the series has progressed. But they're still about as realistic as Halo is, so it's all about the fun.

And as an added bonus, this game runs on the BF:Bad Company engine which features destructible terrain for all kinds of badass fun.

With me talking this game up so much I really hope it doesn't suck.

Don't bother with the download folks, you wont be able to play it online!

Fuck you EA, what - did you think people weren't going to download this?

Of course on the PC versions people can host their own servers. But still.

If you do download it you can play the tutorial.

Controls will take some getting used to.

Not sure I like the control scheme for tanks/jeeps. I guess it allows you to control your acceleration better. I liked it better when you just pressed forward and you went.

You can change the look modes for both infantry and aircraft. Would've have sucked if you couldn't. I only use inverted controls in aircraft.

you can change the controls settings in the options. give it a few days and they'll fix the problems. it takes several attempts to connect, but i'm playing right now with no lag and its amazing.

You have to look for like a bf1943 ad and click on that. Its not on the market place. Or you can buy it online like Lagduf said.

You have to download it online [on a computer] for the moment, Joe. Looks like they took the D/L down on XBLA while they get more serves up and running.

Go to Xbox.com, then click on Marketplace. You have to log in to MS' site using the email and password associated with your XBL account.

You pay online with MS points and then it automatically sends the file to be downloaded by your Xbox the next time you log in to live.

I was able to play about 10 matches and I had a blast.

While the achievements suck balls it appears there are medal/challenges similar to CoD4 and the Medals you could earn in BF2.

I've been almost exclusively using the Soldier class.

It's just so good. The range and accuracy on that rifle are deadly. I suck balls with the SMGs and I've never been a fan of sniping. The balance seems good though and i'll eventually play those classes to earn the medals.

Their appears to be some kind of persistent ranking system but i'm not sure if you get ranked near your skill level or not.

I'm pretty impressed with how they've translated these maps to the new engine. They feel like the old maps. Iwo Jimo feels the most different to me. I'm sure there were significant changes to Guadal Canal too but it still feels like the same old giant ass island with difficult terrain to move over.

Seems pretty fun so far. I had to try a few times to get in a game, but once I did I encountered no lag.

Already wishing there were more maps though :emb:
