With them coming out so close together, I'm sure it's utilizing the same exact netcode as Garou.

I'm still going to buy it. I found out that my friend I was playing in Garou and getting horrible lag with was at fault. We tried to fire up HD Remix after being frustrated with Garou (unplayable!) and that was even lagging. I told him to shut everything off that was connected to his network other than his 360, and low and behold, we were able to have lagless matches at around 100ms ping. Not sure what the deal was on his end. He's always had wacky internet though.

Well worth 10 bucks.

I played a bunch of matches last night and even got some time with jro3000 and xChunky Lover53.

No noticeable lag that I could find.

My friend says the netcode is great in this one. Promising given the upcoming release of xii. Whoever did MotW netcode should be fired.

Damn straight, that was the first I had got any online on this, and I was blown away- the demo didn't do it justice at all.

Great game, great netcode, very fun.

Also, Milkman's Andy whipped my ass, repeatedly. :emb:

What is half assed about it? I played some great matches last night and had a blast. A steal at 10 dollars.

No arrange soundtrack, Backgrounds aren't 3d (like the PS2 version) they didn't even bother translating the Ultimate Menu or win quotes

LOL.

That was a good time man. I really like playing Eiji on there.

Snagged this.

Been years since I played '98 against other folks.

Pretty much forgot what I was doing.

Game works great online.

How did they get this right and fuck MotW up?

Doesn't make sense.

Still a lazy release though.

Didn't even bother to translate parts.

Oh well...

Just glad to play it really.

Love that my girl Kasumi is back in here.

Is it just me, or is this game UGLY ? I have 98 on AES cart, and downloaded 98 on the 360, and the game just doesn't look near as clean or clear as the Neo-Geo original

Same tv, just a different console..and I feel the 360 version looks "off"

I tried something last night.

Fire up KOF98um and play it. Then go into the menu and fire up NEO GEO mode (which is just the AES KOF98) and it looks sharper.

I bet the conversion to make 98um on PS2 required resolution changes that are in the 360 version and noticeably different from the original Neo Geo version.

At least that is my theory.

Still a kick ass game though!

I'm willing to bet his complaint is more due to the artistic changes with the lifebars and whatnot to the OG version of KoF98, rather than any sort of resolution thing with the new game. The PS2 version of 98UM did progressive scan and since it's probably just further upscanned, it really doesn't look noticeably different on 360.

See to me it seemed that between the NEO GEO mode and the 98UM mode the pixels are stretched ever so slightly...or I am on crack. Pick one!

I've always been a total scrub at this game, so before I even think about going online in this game, I was hoping to get some advice...

Are there any characters you guys would say are more newbie-friendly that could help in learning the ropes? Who would you suggest?

I played some great games with next to no lag but anything over 100 gives me problems, other than that best 800 points I ever spent! If anyone wants to play my tag is electricgrave.

Yep, pretty much how I feel.

Really don't understand why it's unfinished considering the PS2 version came out around the same time.

I could understand making it identical to the PS2 version, or even just re-releasing the original KoF 98, but why would you split the difference? It sounds like they were on a deadline and didn't want to spend another few days finishing it.

Haven't gotten online, but hopefully it really is better than Garou was.

Yep, just got this yesterday along with Monkey Island: SE which is also great. It is nice to be able to play KOF 98 online since it is my favorite 2P KOF. The graphics seem fine to me once I turn off the filters and turn down the sharpness a little on my parents HDTV. I am going back home tonight, so I well see what it looks like on my Sony Trinitron SDTV.

I did notice the sound effects/voices are a little muffled and multi hits can sound a little off. Now I kinda want to get the PS2 version for the AST, 3D backgrounds and out of curiosity for what the winning quotes say.

XBLA seems to take things out so games don't go over a certain file size. At first it was, "we shouldn't go over 100MB" then later, "we shouldn't go over 500MB". This is getting to be pretty damn stupid. So that is why we don't get an AST, 3D BG and better sound quality.
