The Sony Bravia looks nice and seems a little more expensive. What's your thought on 'em?

No, not really. I'd probably consider it the most over-priced option on the market, tell you the truth.

You know...having worked for a Sony dealership...I swear they overprice their shit simply to draw the "Ooooh...this one is more expensive therefore it must be superior" crowd.

Simply put, having seen too many of their sets to mention, after the CRT era was over I've yet to see anything Sony offers that can't be found elsewhere for less...sometimes MUCH less.

Hey guys, I'm in the market for an LCD TV right now, and I know very little about them... what do you think the best choice of brand/model in the 26" - 32" range? Should I get one that can do 1080p (like one of those new 32" Samsungz), or is 720p good enough for a TV of this size?

Thanks in advance.

I've had the Samsung 550/ 32 in. model since it came out. Since I wanted a 32 in. w/ 1080p, this one stood out at the time. So far it's been one of the best ones I've had. The next thing I'd like to do once I move is convert my analog surround sound setup to a better one.

Nice, thanks. I've never had a problem with Samsung stuff, so I'll probably go with this. It's still a little way off until I'll be buying a TV, so I'll still do some research before pulling the trigger.

That's weird because the Samsung stuff I've owned have been crap. The speaker on my cell phone simply stopped working and I had a camera that also just dies for no reason. It's pretty much the one brand I won't buy.

Well, after doing a bit more research, I read that the Samsungs are only above average because the backlighting is inconsistent. Maybe I'll just save up extra and get a Panasonic Viera.

Samsung's LCD line of TV's are actually fantastic. I can't comment on thier Plasma models, but having owned 2 LCD sets from Samsung, I can't say enough about how well built they are. Another interesting fact is that Sony and Samsung use the same LCD panels in both thier sets.

But don't get me wrong, Sony makes an awesome set too, though the extra 400+ dollars for it to say Sony is a bit steep in my book.

lol
time to sell off some of those $1,000+ cave boards.

tough times :(

Seriously though, I'm getting in the market for a TV. Looking to spend $1300-1400. I haven't done much research yet. I want to do my homework, but I don't want to overthink it either.

I fucking second this to no end. My 26" sammy LCD shits on any Bravia of that size.

Factory second and I havent had a single problem yet and its been like 2 years now.

It depends on what you want to put into the TV. If you're planning to get into blu-ray or hdtv, you would definitely wait and save up for a decent 1080p tv(if you can't afford one now), in order to make the expense worthwhile.

I have a 40" Sammy LCD that has an ok picture but a buzz from the backlighting transform that annoys me to all hell. Sent it back once to have it replaced to no avail and didnt feel like being without a tv for a month in my bedroom again while they messed around with it.

I also have a 52" bravia. I got the older model of it and although they are spendy I like it better than my samsung. I was glad that I spent the extra money on the sony and dont know if I would buy another samsung.
What about vizios? Arent they like dirt cheap and some people swear by them.

@Ki
If you are watching mostly cable I would just go with the 720. I got 1080's just because it drives me nuts worrying if 1080 is that much better.
