Not feeling the limited roster nor Robert and Terry's classic clothes, but the bgs look very nice and deep and the gameplay looks really superb. Kinda reminds me of AOF3 as someone mentioned earlier and I guess they're not doing teams anymore.

Just few thoughts of mine on KOFXII:

1) the actual sprite settei screams 'Nona' to my eyes... don't you think too? I'm happy for I love Nona 'radical' style, always catching the inner attitude of each character and pushing it into their visual appear.

2) It's just my impression, or SNK is kind of going back to the roots of many character? Pattern looks like: pre-KOF charas, back to their very original appearance. KOF original charas: restyled. Particularly Ryo and Robert seems very original-Ryuko-like, and gosh, Athena (Asamiya) sports an all-blue sailor suit just as she was freshly out of Psycho Soldier! Terry is back to i's original outfit too! Ralf is actually (almost) bare-chested a là Ikari, so I guess Clark is nowhere to appear (he would just be identical to Ralph). On the contrary, Leona, Iori, Kyo are refreshed in some way.

3) Elizabeth is 100% to be in. Not only she's a key character in the storyline, but she's also featured together with Ash in one SNKP official page about the game. Also, both Elizabeth and Goro Daimon were featured on some official flyer for the game, so their both to be in after all (truth to be told, that one flyer featured some chara-illustations which seems now very outdated, IE Leona was portrayed in her 'classic' outfit, not her refreshed one).

4) Considering their releasing KOFXII as the KOF15 Anniversary title, and since the KOF 15th Anniversary logo features K', I would say K' is also to be in the game.

Well, to this point, the very only thing that I don't really like are the special effects. Way too much traslucent and inconsistent imho. But I'm not here to complain when it's 2008 and a company is die-hard struggling to keep alive a 'fading away art' such as an old skool *quality* bitmap-sprite fighter game. This game is just what Gake no Ue no Ponyo is in the anime industry. An almost anachronistic gift-from-god.

All of the following comes from Japanese fighting game website Fighters Front Line (as translated by SonicTempest of Orochinagi):

Interview with the producers of the game here:
http://ffl.sakura.ne.jp/

Some quick stuff I was able to parse out of it:
-10 people are involved with creating any given character...one person would take 16-17 months to completely draw one character.
-Each animation on average has about 30 frames, with each character having about 400-600 frames of animation in total.
-No story, so no special endings. Again, they're leaving it out in order to concentrate on balance, depth and the graphics.
-4 alternate colours per character.
-2 BGMs per stage.
-No SDMs - DMs are the most powerful attacks you have.
-They decided to keep the character count small since with large rosters you end up with a lot of characters not being used.
-No default teams, just 20 edit characters.
-No EX characters.

One thing I disagree with is the lack of story. Did the producers not say that they'd close out the Ash saga? Didn't they say last month that the story hadn't been written yet? I'd understand if this were a "Dream Match"-type of game, but you do not create a new game without finishing the plot from the last one (I'm looking at you, GG2: Overture). It's not that hard to churn out one overarching storyline, then follow it up with a generic ending (like, say, Ash getting burned to death), toss in a couple illustrations (secret lair/temple/airship exploding, characters escape), roll credits, done. Then again, they could be saving things like plot and special endings for the PS3 port (which would make sense, since Capcom's probably going to do the same things with the SF IV port).

I agree with the slimmed-down roster (provided they don't throw in any lame-o characters, like Hinako, Bao or Xiangfei), but I have a feeling more than a few fans are going to feel left out if certain characters aren't included (which is pretty much the case with any returning fighting game franchise).

The only other thing that bothers me is no SDMs. They've had those since KOF '94. How else can a weaker player rally from being so far down with little time/energy left? Prove me wrong, SNKP...

KOF96.

SDMs were originally introduced in GarouDen3 as a cheat/secret feature, then implemented as a standard feature in the following Real Bout and KOF96.

Really?
I thought they were in KOF '94 (in the form of extra-powerful super attacks; you know, when your energy bar is flashing red and your power meter is maxed out, and you pull off your DM, doesn't that count as an SDM?).

Still, on the flip-side, no individual teams means scads of possibilities for the remaining slots in the roster (though I'm going to be very disappointed if they don't tie up all the loose plot threads from KOF '03 and XI; if I end up hearing that all the endings from those two games "never happened", and that the whole game pretty much "retcons" everything that's happened post-KOF '99, I'm not going to be very happy).

I still keep my hopes up for a proper ending to the 'Ash arc' of the KOF story. Or, just another even 'simple' o 'minor' chapter in the story, not the final one, would be equally good. :)

man ryo is SO art of fighting 1 style with the orange hair/eyebrows and all. joy

That's what I was saying myself. Very very original-Ryuuko style.

Not only that, in his new-old Nona sprite settei he's bulky just as the original Mr. Karate. Just take a look at his ZenRetsuKen. ^^

Same goes with Robert, back to the Steven Seagal rip-off he was... ^^

in-game pics of Iori, Andy and Raiden, plus some KOF2002 UM stuff:

KOF2002 UM seems to have almost all the characters since KOF94. I noticed K9999 and Eiji are missing.

Pc version? Romz please

For there to be "teh romz," there first has to be "teh PCBz" with "teh chipz" on them. ;P

As for the KOF2002UM select screen, who's that in the middle of the second row? Can't make it out.

And alas, this game is going to be dramatically weakened by the mere presence of Hinako and Seth... two of SNK's worst designs ever. :P

Isn't that the new character, Nameless?

Lots of KoFXII and KoF02UM(looking very awesome) news from TGS.

http://www.cyberfanatix.com/ has a great amount of updates too.

I like Raiden and Andy's updated sprites. Raiden in motion looks so good. Much better than his CVS2 sprite. I expect Ralf and him to be the powerhouse heavyweights in this game. Iori i wish they would have added more chains to his outfit. I heard he has a new move list since his powers were taken in XI.

KoF02UM looks better than KoF98UM so far. Love the character select screen. I hope they can improve on some of the backgrounds from the original. I only liked the Sau Paulo F-1 racing stage. The new character "Nameless" looks badass. In the vein of the Nest Corp: Original Zero, Igniz, Krizalid and a touch of Asura from the SamSho series.

Fixed.

BTW, Nameless is a modified K9999 (and yes, Angel, Foxy and May Lee are in, so hopefully that'll be the end of all those "SNKP/Eolith conspiracy theories" that have circling around for years). I'm certainly happy to see Hiroaki back in action as the game's artist/character illustrator (much better than Nona was back then, or Falcoon has ever been).

Xiangfei's mildly annoying, at worst. Bao's back, too. UGH. Seth is just an utter waste. Dull aesthetic topped off by absolutely no style to his moves. What's to like about him, man? The best one can say about him is that he adds a little racial diversity, but if that's the best they can cook up for a "non-racist stereotype" black man, they're better off sticking to their Luckies and Heavy D!s. Look, I have suspenders and a... um... mohawk! And I can punch up dust clouds! And I have a lame super where I kick you repeatedly with one leg!

Seriously, Kula's better than that, and she's nothing but a K' knockoff... and he himself is just a twist of lime on the old Kyo formula.

Ahhh, this looks so cool. Iori's supposed to look gay, so I'm fine with that.

Fuck yeah, Raiden looks great in that gameplay video. Good to see him back.

I have to say that I'm intrigued by the drastic-sounding changes in Iori's play-style and move set. It will be interesting to see if he will still be as effective of a character. Thank God they finally gave the bastard some new threads.
