I read something about the fact that you can finish Gauntlet. It has something to do with getting all secret passages and beating a 3 headed dragon.
Is this true, can someone tell me more on the subject?Cause i bought a gauntlet arcade recently and would like to know.

No one knows.

Every person who has ever witnessed the end of Gauntlet has killed themselves or gone mad. Some say it's the game that makes them lose their minds, others say it just takes the deranged type to stick it out until the end.

Either way, the only way to ever find out is to throw caution to the wind, risk it all, and go down the rabbit hole.

If you're brave enough to try, all I can say is that I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for.

Heh. Thanks for making me spit-take on my monitor :tickled:

Answer to your question: There is no ending. I've played the damn game 36 hours straight on one credit and let me tell you...no ending.

Gauntlet 2 does have a three-headed dragon and though it can be beaten somewhat easy, the trick is to do it without taking massive damages (reflective and/or super shots come in handy: potions will not hurt it). #2 has the 'secret rooms' where you can get massive power-ups and when it first came out, if you got out of a secret room completing you assigned task, the machine gave you a code that you sent in to get a Gauntlet 2 T-shirt and a chance to win $5000 in scholorships.

How do I know? I'm one of the proud owner of the T-shirt and the game room I used to operate, we had 8 people win shirts outof the 400+ given out by Atari.

The NES version of Gauntlet has an ending (100 levels) and a few other tricks in it but the arcade version does not. Trick to it is to see how far you can go on a single credit. Was a time where 1 and 2 people could stay on indefinitly. If 2 people had a fair amount of health, a third player could be substained. 4 players was impossible to do: simply not enough food on the levels in the game. Atari later on came up with a 'food chip' on the PCB which prevented long play: the longer you played, the less food the computer would put out until it got to a point when there would be no food period and you'd die.

BTW congrats on getting a Gauntlet. Enjoy it and after awhile, if you can find it cheap enough, upgrade the board to Gauntlet 2 and then the fun will really begin ;)

Always found the best way to play Gauntlet back in the days was to have a friend play along and build up massive health. Then people will stop by and want to join in and play. My buddy and I had a simple rule: be nice and we'll share the wealth (treasures, food and stuff). Cross us and you'll regret it. In the room where shots stun other players, one would shoot, the other would push the stunned player in front of a wave of ghosts and you'll become a human 'ghost vacuum' :p

Motherfuckers...

My one wish above ALL else is to actually own a Gauntlet or Gauntlet 2 machine.

I've never had the scratch or space at any time I've had one come up for a decent price.
