Hello, my PsOne is starting to crap out recently. It's barely reading any discs now. So I'm in the market for a laser replacement. Only thing is that I'm not sure which or where to get a replacement.

I've found these two links:

http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps1_full_optical_block.php
http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/product_info.php?pName=replacement-laser-unit-for-playstationpsone

My main concern is that if I buy one of these two replacements, will they crap out just as fast as the original laser or is there a specific model that I should get?

Thanks!

I would not waste money repairing that. Buy a used fat ps2, it is much better.

Why not just play the PS1 games on that then? They'll load faster and have better graphics.

Google richspsxparts, I got some ps2 lasers from him a month ago and he should have psx parts too. Good prices and service.

You could just about buy a cheap modchip for the cost of a new PS1 laser.

I'd actually recommend buying a lens cleaner before fucking around with the pot. I have revived a number of dead cd/dvd players with these, they are a cd with brushes on it.

Of course, clean it first. This should be rule #1 when it comes to laser lens products.

You don't need one of these for a flip top system..

Just a q-tip and some isopropol..

Hell, I don't even use them for front loading players...I take the thing apart and swab it...

It doesn't look like anyone has posted the most obvious solution... buy a same model working Playstation and swap the entire laser assembly into your modded system. I'm sure it would be cheaper than buying a new laser.

Good idea. From what 68k claims, a PsOne can be found for $7.

Can you interchange laser assemblies between different revisions of the same model? I really wanna get my SPCH-1001 back up and running...

I have another model... I think 1006 (still not the slim)

1001 can run any laser unit from any playstation or PSONE. I would get either a 75xx, 90xx or a PSONE laser unit. Those ones are the best. You will need to cut some plastic or swap the lid of the laser to make it fit though, but that takes literally 10 seconds to fix.
