Best places to live in or around MIAMI, FL?

Can any members living around the area tell me what to expect?
I know it's not California because I've visited a few times, and
recently I was there. Work, and other family related stuff
are making me make the move.

I've always heard to avoid living in Miami and stick with Hollywood, a suburb just north of it.

Yeah Miami is pretty "Different". Fort Lauderdale is better but probably because
there's less people.

yeah. my colleagues down there are split.
Some are in Ft. Lauderdale, some have flats in Miami Beach.

the action is on the beach of course.
better living in the surrounding area.

Best place to live in Miami = Fisher Island.

Any of the islands: Star, Hibiscus, Fisher, etc. are nice places. They just come with a hefty price tag.

Any of the affordable areas in Miami are areas you probably wouldn't wanna live in...

The best places to live in Miami are Miami Beach and South Beach, but it's expensive. And even after your huge rent, you gotta pony up the extra cash to have one parking spot (unless you rent a house, and I'm guessing you won't be). You don't get parking spots included in hardly any rent.

Best to live outside Miami 30-45 mins and commute.

Also be prepared for 50%+ of people to know hardly any english in some parts. I was in a cafe down there in Miami Beach once, and it was such a culture shock that even though I was in the USA, only one person working at the Cafe knew bad english (the lady taking orders), and everyone eating around us were black/hispanic people speaking spanish... It really felt like I was in Mexico or something.

More like 85% if not more don't speak English. CUBA.

Move close to Versailles. Good food and lots of hasty celebrations.

Depends on what you want. If you want more family oriented I'd go with Ft. Lauderdale or Boca Raton. Boca is known for the gray-hairs (The Golden Girls is based there, for example ), but seriously it's a nice nice area. Ft. Lauderdale is a big college area, there is a lot to do, and you can be in Miami proper in less than 30mins. So that's a really good choice as well.

From the Miami side of things, anywhere is going to be restrictively expensive, but since you're from NorCal you probably won't be too taken aback by the rent/housing prices. It's pretty much like playing good-block, bad-block throughout the city, but there are certainly nicer/safer areas than others. Let me call a few friends that lived in Miami for a while. I'll see if they have particular neighborhoods for you to check out.

About living in Miami, if you can afford it, I echo the statements of the other members and suggest South Beach, Miami Beach, the rich islands, and Aventura esp. if you don't mind living in a predominantly elderly Jewish city where all the old farts just shuffle from their many condos and head up the street to Hallandale's Gulfstream Park for horse racing and the casino. You could also try Downtown Miami near Biscayne Bay which has the arenas bustling skyline that's trying to follow in the footsteps of Chicago and Manhattan, but nearby Overtown is just about as hood as you can get and will depress you on sight at how one part of town can be so neglected. You can also try The Falls, Kendall, and Coral Gables for the college scene combined w/big city living w/The Univ. of Miami.

If you fear having to deal w/any language barriers, avoid Allapattah, Little Haiti, Little Havana, and Hialeah-Miami Lakes as far as living there. If not, then bask in the vibrant Latin American and Caribbean cultures. If you can't stand inner city living, stay as far away from Liberty City, Carol City, Miami Gardens, and Opa Locka as possible as any of one those could be hailed as Goon City, USA.

Biased because I stay here, you may be better off in Broward County and commuting to Miami for work despite the city having a national reputation as The Rudest Driving City in America. Property tax aside, you have a bountiful choice of cities to stay in Broward, but East of I-95 is where the action is. Look into places like Hollywood, Dania Beach (which is like Alabama w/an international airport), Western-inspired Davie, Caribbean-fused Miramar, overcrowded Pembroke Pines, the major city Ft. Lauderdale, and others. For more info:

South Beach all the way!! I lived there and loved it, I like the hispanic dominance as I for one I'm hispanic so is like being at home, however some of them central americans aren't to keen on manners, but then again who isn't these days.

Also the parties are crazy! PLenty of women and plenty of weed, the bad thing is how superficial everybody is, you know the whole "holla" package, it just gets irritating after a while, not enough metal in there and this is why I left to central FL where near good old Chuck R.I.P.

Anyway man good luck and make the best of it! Party as hard as you can, perhaps it will help aliviate the annoyance of everything else there.

I don't have a problem with the language (As I'm Hispanic myself), it's just
that a lot of these people in Miami don't know a thing about Customer
Service, but that's ok. I want a quiet area, where I don't have to
worry about my car being break into. The housing is laughable compared
to California, wayyyyyy cheaper. I'm aware of insurance premiums, and
property taxes being higher than most places, but I can understand why.

Good luck with the move. Me and my fiance were thinking of moving down that way but it didnt happen. Moving is always a fun adventure and usually an enjoyable time.

I personally enjoy FL more than Miami. It's way more laid back. Partying is more fun. You don't need to roll up in a Porsche to talk to hot chicks. Miami is probably the most fake city in the entire country.

The traffic on I-95 will make you shit your pants.
