Yeah. I just bought BTG from this chap on ebay. Then a day later some other ebay member got in touch thinking it was a conversion, as the seller had recently got a BTG MVS cart from yaton.

I'm yet to get the BTG homecart but from the auction piccies it looked as legit as can be! I have another (confirmed legit) copy anyway (badly faded insert hence the upgrade) so I'll be able to fully check etc. Seems like a decent seller though so I'm not worried!

Scammer Alert

So I got BTG from this French fuck and its a conversion! *(Apologies if you didn't know..but from what I've heard I doubt that is the case)

Here are board piccies for your viewing pleasure. (I can't be arsed to go into the insert, manual and sticker..suffice to say they are a good copy of the original, but lacking in the true sharpness and feel etc. The sticker is too white, logo points not properly defined etc, slight misalignment of the insert etc)

Needless to say I am very unamused. I paid from my bank a/c though (via paypal) and the funds haven't left yet..and won't be after my recent call cancelling the debit!

So hey, post up you tosser, if you have the balls (unlikely). And remember, should I by some chance lose my cash over this (very unlikely I feel) France is a train ride away and I like to travel! In England we have a saying..there are only 2 certainties in life, death and taxes. If I lose out on this you have a third to worry about.

Anyway fake board 1! Note the third chip down on the LHS which is full of holes from where a chip has been removed. It should be like the two above, factory smooth.

fake2xu4.jpg

And this is a piccie of the same board but from my legit copy! See how the third chip on the lhs is factory smooth!

legit2ci4.jpg

Now to fake board 2! Note how the top row has had a shedload of chips taken out. I mean grief, look at all those lovely holes!

fake4ed1.jpg

And this is a piccie of the board from my legit copy. Note all the factory smooth goodness along the top.

No offence dude but if you can't see the holes where chip pins have been removed..well you must be blind lol!

I'm glad you didn't get conned though.

I should be ok I think. Money hasn't left my bank yet, and won't be. Its just if paypal decide to be arses really and try to get it anyway. Perhaps I'll just close all my cards on paypal to just in case.

Tbh I'm of a mind to dander over to see him regardless of what happens.

This is scary stuff. I suggest buyers to avoid buying high end carts from unknown sellers...

And by unknown, I mean sellers that aren't well known in the entire community. Not someone that a another newb vouches for.

Hey mate,

sorry to hear about you getting ripped off by a fucking lowlife scammer. I put in a bid on that SS4 but withdrew it when i also got some info about this seller.

I myself not long ago got sold a MS conversion to which I had no knowledge about. Unfortunately for me it was too late to get my money back.

I know what you mean regarding taking a short trip to France.

Go there, rip his head off and shit down his neck!!:very_ang:

I'm glad Adrian didn't get conned on it.

The only way to know about any home cart is to open it and inspect the boards.

Like TerryB said,it is easy and you will NOT ruin the sticker opening the cart.

Also,I second wasabi's words...never buy high end carts from unknown sellers.

PS The same seller sold a metal slug 2 US cart for only $500 or so...real value would be about $1000 or more...of course it was a very fishy situation as well..

Cheers for the kind words Simone :)

Well the seller has contacted me and assured me a full refund will happen. Tbh seeing as how I have blocked the payment from my bank I'm not too sure how it will work..as surely now this seller actually owes paypal the $700. Paypal are out of pocket at this moment in time, not me (and I won't be given the blocks my bank has effected for me). I'm hoping paypal will see sense and just accept the refund monies from me when I receive them, or just receive the refund monies direct from the seller.

(I suppose I could end up in the situation of having a) not paid for the item b) having received a refund of $700 (ie so being $700 up) for the item I haven't paid for, and c) having the item itself! Fortunately I'm a decent chap so if that were to happen I would endeavor to sort paypal and the seller out with their respective money/items)

Just needless hassle really. I now can't use my bank ac on paypal until I instruct the bank to lift the block (which I won't do until everything is sorted) so all i have left is my cc which is quite used already lol. And there's some marty stuff coming up the next few days I really want! Grrrr!

So I just spoke to paypal. (again)

I was informed that the funds have been placed on hold in the sellers account but in spite of that the seller will be able to refund the money. When I explained that it was effectively not my money paypal stated that they realised that and that once I am refunded they will just take the money (which is after all their money) from my account. Tbh after all the horror stories you hear about Paypal I was expecting a load of uselessness from them..so was pleasantly surprised!

So now all that needs to happen to remedy all parties is for the seller to refund me asap, paypal can then take their cash, and I can send the game back etc! Woohoo!

I just reveice answer from videogameimports shop
Lee - VGI <lee@videogameimports.com> email

message:

"The game we sent to you was not a bootleg, it was original. You said you were going to send it to us anyway to sell it back to us!
Perhaps the buyer swapped the game you sent (original) with a bootleg copy. I am 100% sure that we sent you an original."

Well I just emailed you about this. (I also emailed vgi earlier when you 1st mentioned you got it from there, and am just about to reply to his reply)

I can assure you I did not swap the game you sold me for a conversion. I already own a legit BTG (which I got in a trade deal from Zak here a while ago...iirc I traded a JP Slug 2, x and 4 for BTG and US RBFF2). I only bought your auction as the copy I got in the trade with Zak has a very badly faded insert, and tbh I am a fussy anal collector!

I have been collecting neo geo games for many years and can vouch for Wheelaa(Adrian).
He is a very honest and kind person and real expert collector.
He owns an amzing collection of vintage videogames as well.

Edit: cut my personal experience with videogameimports to keep the discussion on topic.

And thanks again for the kind words Simone! (Rest assured that darxide is still sitting pretty on my shelf, signed and sealed...almost had to sell it when house buying, but that fortunately didn't come to pass due to lease issues).

Anyhow I have since exchanged further emails with VGI. Apparently he sent the message quoted by dioworldshop above before he read my initial email to him, so before he knew I was the buyer. He has since retracted that comment as he too knows I am a decent, albeit very fussy, collector.

Wow, I only collect MVS, but I never buy anything outside the trading forum here. That way I know who I'm dealing with.

So the plot thickens.

You see when I got home last night I eagerly opened the parcel. Once I had established I had received a conversion I then of course frantically set about taking piccies, phoning the bank and paypal, and posting here. It didn't even occur to me to check that what I had received matched up to what was pictured in the auction. (plus I needed GoW time, god I'm addicted to it)

But then today I realised I should probably check, and let me tell you, work did not finish quickly enough today, I was that eager to get home and check it out the cart I received as compared to the auction.

As will become apparent I did not receive the cart pictured in the auction!

You are all bright chaps so you can infer what you choose from this.

I choose to infer the following.

The cart pictured in the auction was indeed a legitimate BTG cart. The cart I received was not, and it was not the cart that was pictured in the auction. If you compare the piccies from the auction (as far as you are able) to the piccie of BTG in this sites cart pics section you will see that for all the discrepancies I will point out below (ie between the copy I received and the copy in the auction) the copy in the auction matches what a legitimate copy should look like. What I received does not, and indeed it has already been accepted by the seller that I received a conversion.

So what does that mean?

To me it seems as follows. The seller has a legitimate BTG cart. (presumably the one he purchased frpom VGI. Much as I am choked by Simone's kind words (thank you Simone) I do feel he is a little harsh on VGI. Sure they have problems from time to time as do all retailers, but they do know their shit in my experience) This legit cart was pictured in the auction. The seller did not send me that cart, but rather deliberately sent me a conversion to try and scam me. And then as if that wasn't bad enough the seller is trying to give the defence of innocence, saying that they must have bought a conversion originally.

NO NO NO! The seller used the legit BTG he had to make a conversion. The seller advertised the auction with piccies of a legit cart. The seller deliberately sent me a conversion and is now trying to pass the blame elsewhere. This is some seriously depressing deception, sorry attempted deception.

So onto the piccies. (I'm just going to point out what I can obviously tell as different..the auction piccies aren't the clearest to give a fully detailed analysis)

Here is the auction link btw.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140106284808&ssPageName=ADME:B:BOC:UK:1

Here is the insert piccie from the auction

87811mm2.jpg

Here is a piccie of the rear of the insert I received. Please note all the extra on the left hand edge. Compare the gap between the edge of the insert and the players heads and the 2 screenshot windows. The auction piccie has little gap, the copy I received a much greater gap (even allowing for the angle of the auction piccie)

img1053it8.jpg

Now onto the instructions front cover. Here is the auction piccie. Look hard at the top right corner. (Note it looks exactly like the cart pictured in this sites cart piccie section, hence why I believe he advertised a legit copy..and sent me a fake)

92b21md8.jpg

Now compare that corner to the corner on the copy I received. Sod all white line, much more blue background in that corner! Also please look at the staple position of the bottom staple. In the piccie above (auction piccie) you can see that the bottom of the bottom staple is pretty much in line with the top of the yellow rom box, as it should be. The staple on the copy I received is much much higher up.

img1058og9.jpg

Onto the instructions rear cover from the auction . Take a good look at the 2 things here, the amount of white sheet below the bottom of the ball outline, and the positioning of the top staple.

9eab1xn6.jpg

Looked closely? Good, now compare to the instructions I received (below)! Mysteriously (or not as the case may be) the instructions I received have a greater white bit under the ball and the staple has rather bizarrely lowered its position.

img1062zj1.jpg

And onto the cart sticker. Here is the auction piccie. Take a look at the positioning of the neo geo logo and the gold edge/the final T in Tournament. Note how far in from the left hand side the neo geo logo is, and note how far in from the right hand side the ball edge/last T in tournament are.

aacb1wi3.jpg

And here is the cart sticker I received. Note how magically in transit the sticker on the cart I received altered itself. There is a greater green section between the logo and the left hand side, there is a much smaller white bit between the ball edge/last t in tournament of the right hand side (indeed the t is almost falling off the edge!).

img1057ya2.jpg

So there you have it.

Just to reiterate I believe the seller used a real BTG in the auction piccies, but sent me a conversion. This has to have been deliberate, despite the seller now trying to protest their innocence by saying he didn't know he had bought a conversion!

Face it Mounir, you have been caught out for the low life POS fucking scumbag C**T that you are!

Now he has repeatedly stated to me in pms that he needs 1-3 days to get a refund together, despite paypal telling me he could just refund the funds in his paypal account that paypal have put on hold.

However we all know paypal can say one thing but mean another. So I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt for a short while.

I will pm him again as soon as this post is submitted, but I will also just state things here as a matter of public record.

So Mounir, you have until the time I get into work on Monday morning (9:30am, UK time) to send me the refund you have promised me in at least 4 pms today. Once this has been received I will liase with paypal as to how best to get the money to them. (After all it is paypal you owe the money to not me..my cash won't be leaving my bank whatsoever). Once paypal have received the funds and both they and I are satisfied that all financial aspects of this pathetic attempt to scam me are sorted out I will then return this piece of shit conversion to you, at my expense, unless you wish to try and regain some little bit of dignity and send me funds to cover its return.

If no refund to me or paypal is forthcoming by the time I've switched my PC on on Monday morning, the dispute will become a claim, and if needs be I will take the appropriate steps to initiate legal proceedings against you (having spent some time this afternoon collating emails/pms/evidence, confirming silly legal issues such as jurisdiction and relevant best practise etc). I will also forward all of this information to your local police department in sunny Wattrelos.

Have a nice weekend you POS ;)

I was bidding on a KoF AES cart on eBay from this guy a couple of days ago. Suddenly he pulls the auction and everything else that he's selling.

Dodgy scamming bastard. Hope you get everything sorted mate.
