All hail internal combustion!!!!

But yah. I think I may actually have to watch impact! tonight, I have been missing it for the past three weeks, which is why I am thankful for this thread. But it was pretty apparent that Christian was gonna turn with the way the past few weeks have played out. From the moment he lost the belt, he was only going to be back in the title hunt if a. he was the superface and was the one who was fueding with JJ OR b. he was the backup for the superface (sting) that he would eventually turn on to go heel. B/C Sting will eventually win the belt and then it will be a Sting/Cage, Mentor/Student blah blah battle. Its been done too many times before.

TNA Impact! Results: 8-17-06

1 -- ALEX SHELLEY & JOHNNY DEVINE & PETEY WILLIAMS vs. JAY LETHAL & CHRIS SABIN & SONJAY DUTT

Lethal hit a combination of kicks on Devine early on. Petey and Shelley had trouble communicating, which led to the heels being sent to the outside. Lethal and Sabin hit crossfire suicide dives onto the heels on the outside then Dutt hit a flip dive onto Shelley. Earl Hebner, raggedy clothes and all, ran into the ring and choked referee Slick Johnson with his belt. Security guards hit the ring, but Hebner whipped them his belt and they fell down. Hebner ran across the ring before a break. Yes, a referee was able to beat down two security guards and escape their clutches while 99.9 percent of wrestlers are always held down by the same security guard combination to prevent a brawl from escalating. That's one omnipotent referee.

[Commercial Break]

Andrew Thomas is your new referee after Slick was attacked by Hebner. The heels worked on Lethal while the referee held back Sabin and Dutt from helping their partner. Petey went for a bulldog off the ropes, but Lethal countered into a back breaker. He tagged out to Dutt. Shelley came in and the spots ensued. Dutt hit a spinebuster for a two count when Petey broke up the pin. Six-person action broke down. Sabin and Lethal rowed the boat on the heels in the middle of the ring. Haven't seen that since PWG last year. The babyfaces hit simultaneous side kicks on the heels. Sabin hit a charging kick to Devine's face in the corner. He followed with a top rope guillotine leg drop on Devine for the win.

WINNERS: Sabin, Dutt, and Lethal in 9:00. An entertaining spotfest with good TV-quality moves to keep the action going, but no personalities were developed.

- They went to post-Hard Justice footage after recapping Jarrett-Sting. Backstage after the match, Rhino asked Christian backstage, "What...the...hell...was...that?" Christian quickly said he didn't have time to explain, but he said he did it for Rhino and everyone else on the roster.

- Mike Tenay sternly introduced a Christian sit-down interview. Christian said the truth is that he never had a master plan. He said he tried to help Sting over and over during the NWA Title match, but Sting just didn't show the desire to get the job done. They showed footage of Christian's repeated outside interference to help Sting. He said he decided it wasn't worth helping someone who wouldn't get the job done so he made a "gametime decision" to lay out Sting and stop Sting from taking the belt since he didn't have the same passion. Christian went into full heel mode when he said he put the promotion on the map as the company's big free agent acquisition. He said he got TNA the Thursday night timeslot. Christian said Sting gets the glory, which is far from the truth. He said Sting told him he loves him like a brother. "That's a crock of (bleep)," Christian said. He said he didn't screw Sting; Sting screwed him. Christian asked how many former champions never get a re-match after never being pinned to lose the belt. He said he did it for Rhino and for the roster; that he would regain the belt. Heck of a promo from a full-fledged heel Christian. Really put a lot of sense into the main event at the PPV.

[Commercial Break]

- They went backstage where Daniels and Styles were still covered in blood. Daniels said he hates the taste of his blood. He said they beat LAX at the PPV and if they wanted a re-match, all they had to do was ask. With blood covering his eyes, Daniels cursed LAX then said they would even put the belts on the line just to get LAX back in the ring. They went to Konnan ringside, who accepted Daniels's challenge. He said he wanted a Border Brawl to do the match their style. Konnan said Styles and Daniels only have one good brawl in them, and that was at Hard Justice. He said LAX has more than one good brawl in them and they would win because they have more pantalones than the champs. Heck of a promo exchange. This feud is red hot.

- They aired a Bobby Roode free agent promo. Simon Diamond, James Mitchell, and Shane Douglas talked about what they could do for Roode's career. Diamond said he could make money with Roode. He told Roode to bring him the skills he has and he would lead him to the paydays. Bam, that's it right there. Roode said the offers weren't good enough this week and he would consider more offers next week.

2 -- CHASE STEVENS (w/Andy Douglas) vs. KAZARIAN (w/Maverick Matt) vs. B.G. JAMES (w/Kip James) vs. CHRIS HARRIS (w/Gail Kim and James Storm) -- #1 Contender match to NWA Tag Titles

Before the match, Tenay said Jim Cornette's office has booked the NWA Tag Title match for next week's main event. Kazarian hit a slingshot DDT on Chase early on. B.G. broke up the follow-up pin attempt. B.G. did his dance in center ring then knocked down Harris. Storm tried to intervene with his beer bottle, but Harris snapped on Storm for almost hitting him with the bottle. Harris became preoccupied ringside, which allowed Stevens to grab the AMW handcuffs and clock Harris from behind with the gimmick. Stevens covered Harris for the win. In the ring, Gail Kim consoled Harris. James Storm shoved the referee then argued with Harris. Meanwhile, Shane Douglas congratulated Stevens on finding a way to win. They celebrated the #1 Contender victory. Storm gave Harris the double middle finger in center ring while Gail tried to stand in between them to talk sense into both men. Harris just gave a blank expression of disappointment. Storm walked out of the ring and shot the bird one more time while walking up the entrance ramp. Gail walked out behind Storm then screamed at both men while standing in the middle. Harris continued to stare in Storm's direction from the ring with a blank expression.

WINNER: Stevens in 3:00 to earn #1 Contender. Too short to amount to much in the ring, but they told a good story post-match. It appears Harris is going to be portrayed as the babyface in this AMW break-up. It felt like a big moment because AMW has been the top team in TNA during the Impact era, going all the way back to Week 1 of Impact on FSN in June 2004 when they won the NWA Tag Titles.

[Commercial Break]

- They aired a DVD preview for Lockdown. They showed Sabu throughout the video

- Ron Killings and Samoa Joe exchanged promos in a pre-tape. Joe said TNA has put Killings up against the toughest men in TNA, but not him. Killings said he's not one to mess with and he would bring it to Joe. "I'm gonna show your ass what's up," Killings said.

3 -- SAMOA JOE vs. RON KILLINGS

Tenay talked up Joe and his winning streak as he walked into the ring. Joe piefaced Killings to start the match. Killings came back with a straight right hand then he tackled Joe in center ring. Killings shoved the referee aside to land more right hands. Joe came back with a sick enziguiri kick to the head. "Joe, Joe, Joe" the fans chanted. Joe slipped to the outside when Killings hit him in the head with a boot. Killings hit a somersault flip dive onto Joe. Joe held his head as they cut to a break.

[Commercial Break]

Joe landed a hard chop to the chest out of the break. Joe took Killings back into the ring, but Killings caught him in the corner for ten punches. Killings went for a corner splash, but Joe caught him with an E. Honda front slam. The fans chanted, "Joe's gonna kill you." He hit the front and back combo followed by a charging knee drop off the ropes. Joe was bleeding from the lip as he stalked Killings. He hit a combo punch and face slap then washed Killings's face. Joe followed in with a charging boot to the face. Joe applied a mat hold, driving a knee to the small of the back. Killings rallied to his feet then hit a twisting forearm smash off the ropes. He made the full comeback with successive comebacks. Joe cut Killings off with a snap slam off the ropes. After scoring a nearfall, Joe applied a cross armbreaker, but Killings reached the ropes to break the hold. Killings ducked a clothesline and hit a front suplex, which looked like a big deal with Killings lifting Joe in the air. He sold exhaustion after hitting the move then he draped an arm over Joe's chest for a nearfall. Killings went up top, but Joe caught him with a kick to the face. Joe grappled Killings up top and hit the Muscle Buster for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Samoa Joe in 11:00. A solid, competitive match. Joe might have given too much to someone who TNA hasn't pushed on TV for nearly two months, but Killings has enough historical credibility, a healthy connection with the audience, and good physical size to where he's a credible opponent independent of how he's booked. Good in-ring conclusion, giving Joe a full quarter hour of TV time to be the featured wrestler on the show.

- Borash was backstage with Jarrett. He asked if Jarrett was accepting Sting's challenge. Jarrett said there's nothing in it for him to accept the challenge. He said Sting's offer has nothing for him because it's not a win-win situation. He counter-offered with NWA Title vs. Sting's career at Bound for Glory. Jarrett said he wanted a fully executed contract by next week with the deal in writing that Sting's contract would be terminated if he were to lose at Bound for Glory. He said he wanted all of Sting's merchandise burned, never to be sold again.

- They did a music video recap of the high points of the show. The other voice over man promoted the NWA Tag Title match for next week. He posed the question of whether Styles and Daniels put too much on the line for revenge on LAX. Two nice hooks for next week to close a very strong show.

The Animal roars into SummerSlam
By Craig Tello
August 18, 2006

Just two days before The Animal looks to regain the richest prize in all of sports-entertainment, Batista made a momentous return to his hometown crowd of Washington, D.C. on SmackDown and seized the throne of World Heavyweight Champion King Booker. Based on the events of Friday’s SmackDown, one has to believe that at SummerSlam, the “biggest party of the summer” could become the celebration of a new champion.

Batista opened up SmackDown by facing Quebec’s Ambassador-at-Large, Sylvan, who said that he’d show the world his province’s greatness by beating the hometown hero. An ambassador in his own right to the nation’s capitol, Batista made extremely short work of Sylvan and gained ample momentum before his championship match this Sunday.

Later in the night, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion King Booker came to the ring to make a royal decree in The Animal’s hometown. The King proclaimed that he will “march into SummerSlam and beat [Batista] to a royal, bloody pulp beyond recognition.”

His majesty then offered his SummerSlam challenger an option that would bring Batista to the ring. Rather than facing the King on Sunday, King Booker gave Batista the option to bow down, get on his knees and kiss the King’s “royal feet.” With Batista seemingly contemplating his option, Queen Sharmell removed his majesty’s shoe and exposed the King’s foot. The Animal dropped to one knee, but then quickly rose and stomped on the champion’s toes. Providing a heaping dose of humility, Batista then knocked King Booker to the outside, draped himself in the King’s red cape and sat triumphantly upon the royal throne (See the video).

Batista was never pinned for the World Heavyweight Championship eight months ago and The Animal believes that he is the rightful champion. After what we saw on Friday night, it’s clear that Batista is on fire and ready to reclaim the gold this Sunday.

Also on SmackDown, just as she promised WWE.com in an exclusive interview last week, Vickie Guerrero pleaded with Theodore Long to call off the match between Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero at SummerSlam.

The common denominator between Rey and Chavo is Eddie Guerrero. With Eddie gone, Vickie has been in the middle of these men as she’s tried desperately to restore the peace between them. Vickie explained that the match between Rey and Chavo is tearing her family apart and that Long is the only one who has the power to cancel their match.

“If Eddie was here, he’d want [Rey and Chavo] to resolve this peacefully,” an emotional Vickie said to Long. “In the name of Eddie, you have to stop this. I am begging you, Teddy.”

Long respectfully denied Vickie’s request, saying that the only way to resolve the personal conflict between Rey and Chavo is for them to be “man against man, face-to-face in the ring.”

“The match this Sunday at SummerSlam,” Long said, “is still on.”

The General Manager was forced to make a tough decision this Friday on SmackDown. And despite the emotional plea of Vickie Guerrero, the issue between Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero will be settled in the ring this Sunday.

Two of WWE’s most feared monsters met on Friday as Undertaker conquered his foe, The Great Khali, in grueling a Last Man Standing Match. In this match, the only way to win was for one man to beat his opponent to the point where he could not respond to the referee’s count of 10. Given the nature of this contest, fans were in for one of the most savage battles in SmackDown history.

Both Undertaker and Khali exchanged a salvo of clubbing blows and massive boots for several minutes. With Khali down momentarily, Daivari eventually got involved and lured the Phenom from the ring and toward the SmackDown stage. Khali followed and got the advantage in the match by bashing his opponent into the mirrored glass of the SmackDown set. The Punjabi giant tossed Undertaker off the stage into tables many feet below, but the Deadman would rise – just as he has many times before in his career.

The behemoth Khali beat the Phenom back toward the ring; Undertaker sustained this attack until getting his arms tied up in the ropes. With the Deadman in a vulnerable position, Khali landed four mighty chops and the same big boot that led to Undertaker’s defeat to Khali at Judgment Day.

Somehow, the resilient Undertaker did his signature sit-up and again engaged in battle with Khali. The Deadman used the steel steps to bash Khali in his giant cranium and then leveled Khali with multiple shots to the head with a steel chair, causing Khali to bleed from his skull. Later, the giant would need nine stitches to close the wound inflicted by the Phenom. Click here to watch the WWE.com exclusive video.

Despite the porous crimson blood that ran from his monstrous head, Khali rose back to his feet. Undertaker landed two more hits with the chair – denting it with the impression of his enemy’s cranium – and dropped The Great Khali with a colossal chokeslam. After felling the giant, the Punjabi warrior could not get up to beat the count of 10 and Undertaker was declared the victor in this unbelievably brutal encounter.

In a most appropriate setting, the United States Championship was at stake in Washington, D.C. as Lashley clashed with Finlay, the man who stole the championship from Lashley last month. As always with Finlay, Lashley had to contend with not just his opponent, but also Little Bastard, Finlay’s shillelagh and William Regal. Lashley seemed to have Finlay beat until Regal pulled the referee from the ring before he could count to three. Though Lashley won by disqualification, he did not win the U.S. Championship.

After the bell rang, Lashley managed to overcome a triple team assault by his enemies. He then added an exclamation point by hurling a steel chair at the head of the U.S. Champion. It seems as if Regal and Finlay’s on-again-off-again relationship is back on for the time being. Can Lashley overcome the odds that are stacked so high against him in his pursuit to reclaim the U.S. gold?

On Friday night, SmackDown newcomers K.C. James and Idol Stevens continued to make an impression on the WWE Tag Team Champions. In an interview with Kristal, London and Kendrick addressed their loss to James and Stevens last week and explained that they are looking forward to facing Michelle McCool’s teacher’s pets again. Suddenly, James and Stevens ambushed the champions and used anything they could find backstage to batter London and Kendrick. McCool watched on, directing the fierce assault until she herself got involved by striking London across his back with her ruler. Leaving the WWE Tag Team Champions beaten down on SmackDown, James and Stevens sent a resounding message that they are hungry for tag team gold.

In other action, SmackDown veteran Scotty 2 Hotty faced the bully Sylvester Terkay. Terkay brutalized the Master of the Worm throughout the match and after pinning Scotty, he continued the physical punishment as he has done for the past few weeks.

With champagne in one hand and cell phone in the other, Montel Vontavious Porter watched SmackDown from the skybox of the Verizon Center flanked by three sexy valets. Given that his agent is still in contract negotiations with Theodore Long, MVP scouted what could soon become his competition on Friday nights.

This week, Mr. Kennedy also earned a controversial victory over Tatanka. With a handful of the Native American Superstar’s tights, Kennedy pinned Tatanka to not only continue his hot streak, but also perpetuate Tatanka’s recent bad luck in the ring.

Also maintaining a streak of his own this week was Vito, who gained another victory on SmackDown. In addition to competing on Friday night, the rugged Italian spent his afternoon visiting the national landmarks in the area and showed off his newest threads. Vito has been undefeated since embracing this alternative attire, and the toughest man to ever wear a dress has proven to be just that.

Matches
Batista def. Sylvan
Sylvester Terkay def. Scotty 2 Hotty
Mr. Kennedy def. Tatanka
Lashley def. Finlay (DQ)
Undertaker def. The Great Khali (Last Man Standing Match)
Vito def. Scott Fowler

WWE SUMMERSLAM
AUGUST 20, 2006
BOSTON, MASS.

-Michael Cole and JBL introduced the show this year. They only get to call two matches, so they deserve that bone. Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler then got a few seconds of camera time, followed by Joey Styles and Tazz.

1 -- CHAVO GUERRERO vs. REY MYSTERIO

They brawled at the start. Rey missed a dive over the top rope at 1:00. Chavo hit the same dive successfully. Chavo sustained offense including a nice standing flip of Rey over his head into the corner turnbuckle. Chavo did the Eddie dance as he stood over Rey. The crowd chanted "Eddie, Eddie." JBL said that chant inspires bot wrestlers because they both believe they're fighting for his honor. Rey's chinstrap broke and the mask came off completely. He quickly jumped to ringside and put it back on. Rey had to keep protecting his mask from falling off. Chavo and Rey battled while standing on the top rope. They both jumped and rammed each other's head into the mat. A fan who held up a sign that said, "Keep Khali off TV" had his signs confiscated. Rey hit the 619 at 7:00, then springboarded of the top rope, but overshot Chavo. Rey dove right at Chavo and huracanrana'd him over the top rope to the floor. Chavo took control at ringside. Vickie Guerrero ran to ringside and yelled at Chavo to stop. Chavo told her to return to the back. She grabbed Chavo's leg as he began to enter the ring, then slapped him. The distraction allowed Rey to jump Chavo. Rey threw Chavo into the ring, but as he talked to a frantic Vickie, Chavo hit him on the ring apron. he his two of the Three Amigos, but Rey escaped the third and took Guerrero over with a head scissors takeover. Rey then hit the Three Amigos. A lot of the crowd booed Rey. Re went to the top rope, but Vickie shook him off balance by mistake as she climbed to the apron to try to talk him out of hitting Chavo. Chavo hit a brainbuster suplex and thhe went for a frog splash. Vickie screamed, "No more fighting!" Chavo scored the pin.

WINNER: Chavo at 10:00.

STAR RATING: **1/4 -- Decent match.

-Backstage, Booker T talked to Sharmell about how he must beat that peasant Batista, then they can return to the Smackdown kingdom as the powerful couple in sports entertainment. Edge and Lita walked in. Edge mocking applauded Booker. Booker asked, "Who is this rougue." Edge said Lita is the Women's Champion. "That matters not!" said Sharmell. Edge said they are the most powerful couple in sports entertainment. Edge said he's going to bitch slap John Cena later just as he bitch slapped his father and just as the Yankees are bitch slapping the Red Sox out of the playoff race.

2 -- BIG SHOW vs. SABU -- ECW World Hvt. Title match

Sabu opened chairshots against Show, then an Arabian facebuster. Show tripped Sabu as he ran toward his chair. Show then stomped the chair, breaking it and then tossing it to the floor. Show then took over with a hard slap to Sabu's chest. He overhead tossed Sabu half way across the ring and then Sabu rolled to the floor. Back in the ring, Sabu took control by flying at Show with a chair. He also leaped at Show from behind and drove him into a table leaning in the corner. With the two segments of the ring steps in the ring, but several feet apart, Show put a table across it, forming a bridge. Sabu jumped on it and the table slipped off. The crowd booed. Styles noted that this is the first time ever the ECW Title is being defended on a WWE PPV. Sabu recovered and DDT'd Show through the table. Sabu brought another table into the ring and set it up on its legs. How novel. Sabu leaped off the table into Show's arms. Show caught him and chokeslammed him through the table for the three count. A fan wearing a Hulkamania t-shirt was shown chanting "ECW, ECW" during the match. That shouldn't be allowed.

WINNER: Show in 8:00 to retain the ECW Hvt. Title.

STAR RATING: ** -- Short, but ECW enough to fill that slot on the card. It doesn't help the image of the ECW brand to have the title that is defended in the main events of its house shows and ECW-brand PPVs with the wrestlers who headline its house shows and PPVs, to be the second match on the card. It's a loaded card, so it's a tough call, but there are consequences to the decision. It's like when the UWF Title was defended early on a Jim Crockett Promotions PPV shortly after the UWF buyout.

-Ross called the match brutal and ugly and saikd now it's time to move to the beauty of the Raw Diva Search finals show. Leila was shown winning the contract. Backstage live, the WWE Divas greeted Leila and gave her a hard time. Trish said she just won a contest so she can't call herself a Diva. Trish then revealed she was joking. Leila laughed and asked if that was her initiations. Trish said no and dragged Leila to the showers where she was spanked and splashed with water.

3 -- HULK HOGAN vs. RANDY ORTON

Well, this takes away some of the sting of ECW's title match being on second if Hogan's match is third. Not that it deserves to be higher, but it's a big victory from a prestige standpoint for Ric Flair vs. Mick Foley to follow Hogan's match. Maybe it's on early just in case it goes to the 60 minute time limit. Orton came out first, then Hogan. Ross said there is nothing wrong with Hogan's spirit. Hogtan circled in the ring and pointed at the crowd and got cheers. Hogan threw Orton to the mat during a collar and elbow hook-up. Hogan shoulder tackled Orton to the mat at 2:00. Orton applied a headlock. The crowd loudly chanted, "Let's go Hogan!" Hogan powered out and threw Orton to the mat again. Orton kicked Hogan in the gut and forearmed his back. Hogan stood on the second rope, did a crotch chop, and then punched Orton in the corner. He followed with an eye poke, then ripped at his face and punched away at him. Orton went on to attack Hogan's knee with a barrage of punches. Hogan writhed on the mat as Orton continued to focus on the knee. At 7:00 Orton climbed to the top rope and went for a crossbody block. Orton ducked. Hogan went for a big boot, but Orton ducked and then kicked Hogan. The crowd booed. Orton got set up for an RKO. He pounded the mat in anticipation of Hogan getting to his feet. Hogan finally stood up and turned around. Orton gave him an RKO and made the cover. Hogan put his leg over the bottom rope. Orton celebrated because the ref counted to three, but the ref discovered the leg over the bottom rope and ordered the amtch to continue. Orton protested vehemently. Hogan struggled to get to his feet again. Orton punched away at him. Hogan began his Superman comeback. Hogan did the point, punch, punch, punch, whip, boot, and legdrop sequence for the three count. Hogan then posed.

WINNER: Hogan in 10:00.

STAR RATING: *1/2 -- Hogan pulled off a passable Hogan formula match. The crowd ate it up. This was the right place on the card, though. Not as good as the Undertaker-Khali match, but it was what it needed to be and they were smart enough not to try to make it more.

-They plugged WWE 24/7, then showed outside of the arena.

-Backstage, Mick Foley and Melina shared a moment. She asked him if he was ready for his match. Foley said he's known Flair for a long time, but he's never seen that look in Flair's eyes before. He said it's a different Flair than he was prepared for.

4 -- RIC FLAIR vs. MICK FOLEY

Foley went after Flair with a barrage of punches at the start, then charged him in the corner with a running knee to the face. He then rammed Flair in the face with a trash can and applied an early Mandible Claw. Foley grabbed the mic and said, "Let's keep it real simple. Say those two words or it gets a lot worse." Flair said nothing. Foley then pulled out barbed wire. As Foley approached Flair, a rested and recovered Flair grabbed Foley's crotch and squeezed. He followed with a series of rights and lefts. Flair put on Mr. Socko with barbed wire. He chopped Foley in the chest with the barbed wire. He ripped Foley's flannel shirt open and chopped away. Foley bled from his chest. Flair went after Foley at ringside and whipped Foley into the ringside steps. Foley flipped over them and to the floor. Foley pulled out a board covered in barbed wire and charged at Flair with it. Flair came up bleeding heavily. Back in the ring, Foley hit Flair with the board again. Foley asked Flair if he quit again. Flair said, "Kiss my..." and Foley pulled the mic away. Foley poured out thumb tacks and then slammed Flair on them. Flair came up with several dozen tacks stuck into his skin. Ross blew a gasket. Foley again asked Flair if he gave up. Flair didn't. Foley tried to rub the barbed wire baseball bat across his forehead, but Flair mule kicked out of it. Flair sidestepped a Foley charge and sent him shoulder-first into the ringpost. A very blood Flair hit Foley with the barbed wire baseball bat several times. Foley fell into 619 position against the ropes. Flair did not do the 619. Flair pounded away at Foley's face. Foley fell to the mat. Flair grabbed the mic and stuck the mic in Foley's face and said, "Foley, you son of a bitch. You quit, or I'll kill you right here. I'll tear out your heart." Foley took a low blow at Foley after he refused to quit. Ross reminded viewers that Flair said on Raw, "May one of use bleed to death in Boston." Flair knocked Foley backward off the ring apron onto a trash can on the floor. Trainers and officials came out to check on Foley. Melina joined them to check on her man. The trainer said, "He's done. It's over." The bell rang and the ref said it was over. Flair said, "This isn't a lay down on your ass match, it's an I Quit match. Get your ass back in here, Foley!" Flair threw Foley back into the ring at 11:00. Foley rolled over the barbed wire board and thumb tacks. Flair shoved the barbed wire baseball bat on his face and stomped away at him. Flair then told Melina, "I'll kill you, too, you f---in' bitch!" Flair drove the butt of the baseball bat into Foley's face. Melina begged Flair to stop. She said, "It's over." Flair said, "She does not quit for him. He quits. Get out of the way!" Ross said Flair is a man possessed. Flair rolled through the tumb tacks for fun as he grabbed the barbed wire baseball bat. When he wound up and perhaps would have hit Melina, Foley grabbed the mic and said, "I quit!" Ross said he doubted Flair would have really hit Melina. Lawler said Flair has snapped. Flair left first. Melina tended to Foley and asked if he was okay.

WINNER: Flair in 14:00.

STAR RATING: ***1/2 -- Brutal match. Solid drama. Lots of blood. Good intense performances from Flair and Foley. The ending allowed Foley to save face since he quit to save his friend, Melina, rather than out of fear of taking more of a beating.

-Vince and Shane McMahon talked backstage with Armando Alejandro Estrata about relying on Umaga to help them in their match against DX later.

5 -- BOOKER T (w/Sharmell) vs. BATISTA -- World Hvt. Title match

JBL noted that Booker T got his start at the Sportatorium in Texas as part of Ebony Experience. In the opening minute, Booker slapped Batista in the corner instead of breaking cloean, so Batista shoved Booker to the mat. Booker applied a headlock. Batista pushed out of it and they collided mid-ring. Batista powerslammed Booker and scored a one count. Booker recovered at ringside with Sharmell. When Booker returned, Batista signalled for his finisher. Booker rolled to the ring apron, then dropped Batista over the top rope throat-first to finally take control. Booker applied a chinlock. Booker hit Batista with a stick at 5:00, then applied another chinlock. Batista lifted Booker, dropped him crotch-first over the top rope, and then clotheslined him. He followed with a sideslam for a two count. Booker bailed out to ringside. Batista followed him. Sharmell distracted Batista, giving Booker a chance to take control. Booker went to the top rope and hit Batista with a missile dropkick for a two count. Booker hit the Book End for a two count. Booker went for the scissors kick. Batista avoided it and set up a suplex into a powerslam for a near fall at 9:00. Batista whipped Booker into the corner and went for a clothesline. Booker avoided it and gave him a neckbreaker for a two count. Batista full-nelson slammed Booker and then called for the Batista Bomb. Sharmell jumped Batista. The ref called for hte bell. After the match, Booker wheel kicked Batista in the chest. He went for a scissors kick, but Batista caught him with a spinebuster instead. He followed with the Batista Bomb. He failed to lift Booker at first, but he powered him up and slammed him to the mat. Let the speculation begin that Booker sand-bagged Batista on that move to make him look bad.

WINNER: Batista via DQ in 10:00.

STAR RATING: **1/4 -- Eh. Okay match. Lame finish, but it keeps the young feud alive. The match was pretty formula, but it was an honest effort to have a decent match. It didn't need to carry the main event slot.

Somebody here should have been forced to yell I QUIT! in JBL fashion while being brutalized.. I don't care who was about to be whacked. If you interfere with the match you should accept the consequences ECW style!

-Shawn Michaels and Triple H were shown talking to someone in the men's locker room, telling a mystery wrestler that Vince McMahon said Umaga is the toughest monster in WWE to get this other person riled up. They left, and Michaels asked Hunter if he though it worked. They heard things being thrown around behind the closed door, and they smiled with satisfaction that it worked.

6 -- TRIPLE H & SHAWN MICHAELS vs. VINCE & SHANE MCMAHON & UMAGA

Triple H did the usual opening routine, but had to ask the crowd twice to pop for them and injected the hometown Boston to wake them up. Michaels did the "We got two words for you" bit. After Vince and Shane were introduced, Spirit Squad ran to the ring. Hunter and Michaels easily tosseed them around the ring and out of the ring. Vince and Shane then called Mr. Kennedy to the ring, followed by William Regal, and Finlay. They each got five seconds of their intro song played, then attacked Hunter and Shawn. Hunter and Shawn fended them off. Vince and Shane looked puzzled that their plan wasn't working well. Hunter and Shawn called for Shane and Vince to come to the ring. Instead, they called out Big Show. Show threw Michaels around in the ring as the other wrestlers attacked Hunter at ringside. A minute later, Show rammed Hunter back-first into the ringpost. He pulled the monitors off of the ECW announcers' table, then chokeslammed Hunter onto it. It fell to pieces. As Ross said Hunter's back might be broken, Vince and Shane walked to the ring, shook the hands of their henchmen, and plotted their attack.

Vince volunteered to start the tag match as the bell rang to officially begin. Vince slammed Michaels, then tagged in Shane. Shane danced and punched Michaels. Hunter remained KO'd at ringside. At 5:00, after Vince and Shane double-teamed Michaels for a while, Hunter finally got up. When he began to enter the ring, Shane slidekicked Hunter. Hunter flew over the Raw announcers' table and into Ross's lap. Ross cleared his lap of Hunter. Hunter went back to lying KO'd on the floor. Ross wondered why nobody from the back has come out to check on Hunter's condition. When Vince and Shane did Demolition's finisher with the elbow drop by Shane as Vince had Michaels arched over his knee, Ross said, "They think it's thye '80s and think they're Demolition." Vince and Shane followed with the Hart Attack clothesline. They followed with the Doomsday Device. Ross said, "Hawk must be rolling in his grave." They went for a pin, but Michaels kicked out and a minute later hit both Shane and Vince with a flying clothesline.

Hunter crawled toward the ring at 9:00. He pulled himself up the stairs and into his corner. Michaels kicked Shane off of him and dove toward his corner and hot-tagged hunter. Hunter entered the ring and made the Tommy Dreamer comeback, suddenly having the energy to beat up both Vince and Shane even though he barely had the energy 15 seconds earlier to stand up in his corner. Hunter gave Shane a spinebuster and then gave Vince a bodyslam (carefully). Michaels hit a top rope elbow. Hunter and Michaels had a spirng in their step. Michaels clotheslined Shane over the top rope to the floor. Estrada led Umaga to the ring. He kicked Michaels in the aisle, then hit Hunter with the Samoan Spike to stop him from giving Vince the Pedigree. Estrada had the ref distracted. Kane's pyro blasted, so he was the wrestler that Michaels and Hunter riled up earlier. He beat up Umaga. Vince went for a pin, but Hunter kicked out. Vince hit the ref for not counting faster.

Shane put a trash can on Hunter's chest in the corner. He climbed the top rope in another corner and flew at Hunter. Michaels caught him in mid-air with Sweet Chin Music. Hunter then bashed Vince over the head with the trash can. Michaels followed with Sweet Chin Music. Hunter hit the Pedigree and made the cover for the win. Michaels favored his right elbow after the match. He can get his knee and elbow worked on at the same time. No crotch chop

WINNERS: Hunter & Michaels in 15:00.

STAR RATING: ***1/4 -- They had enough distractions to keep the action nonstop. Well orchestrated story and a crowd-pleasing finish. The Kane counter plan by DX was a good touch.

I gotta commend them for bringing him back in fashion. And with hot fued to go with it. I really dont see Kane being another wrestler that gets squashed off by Umaga.

7 -- EDGE (w/Lita) vs. JOHN CENA -- WWE Title match

Cena went on the attack early. He hit an early belly-to-belly suplex. Edge avoided a Cena shoulder charge in the corner, and Cena flew to the floor. The ref reached eight before he re-entered the ring. A "Cena sucks" chant started early. Cena made a comeback and received some boos. Edge threw Cena over the top rope at 5:00. Cena teased a comeback and flew at Edge with a bodyblock, but Edge ducked. Edge applied a jawlock. He shifted to a chinlock. Another "Cena sucks" chant could be heard. Lawler noted that Cena's father is there tonight. Cena made a comeback to a mix of cheers and boos. Edge kicked Cena in the face to halt his comeback quickly. Cena set up a superplex, but Edge punched out of it and hit a top rope clothesline for a two count at 9:00. Edge reapplied the jawlock while riding Cena's back. Cena stood and dropped Edge onto his back. More boos. Lita slid Edge a chair. Edge shook his head no and threw it out of the ring, not wanting to get DQ'd. That gave Cena a chance to attack Edge with a series of moves. The Cena fans popped big for him, taking over the boos. He went into his finishing routine with the Five-Knuckle Shuffle. Edge avoided the FU and turned it into an impaler DDT leading to a near fall. Cena surprised Edge with a victory roll for a two count. Edge came back with a body block. Cena rolled through and lifted Edge for an FU. Lita jumped on the ring apron. Edge escpaed and shoved Cena. Edge charged, but Cena moved, and Edge knocked Lita off the ring apron. Cena rolled up Edge for a near fall. tey hit each other with clotheslines and both landed on their backs and didn't move. Lita rubbed her right elbow at ringside. Edge went for the Spear, but Cena sidestepped it and immediately applied the STFU. Lita jumped onto the apron with the title belt. Edge said, "No!" He realized it would cost him the title. Instead, Edge reached and grabbed the bottom rope to force a break, at which point Lita slipped brass knuckles on Edge's hand. Lita circled to the other side of the ring. Cena lifted Edge for an FU. Lita entered the ring and jumped onto Edge's back. Cena flipped her off of Edge. She landed wiht a thud. Edge KO'd Cena with brass knuckles as the ref tended to Lita. Edge made the cover and the ref counted to three in 16:00. The ref handed Edge his title belt. Edge rolled out of the ring. They showed Cena sitting up in the ring, realizing what happened, as the show ended.

WINNER: Edge in 16:00 to retain the WWE Hvt. Title.

STAR RATING: ***1/4 -- Satisfactory main event. Nothing more, though. Pretty much what you'd expect from these two.

WWE RAW Results: 8-21-06

Broken down?
By Ed Williams III
August 21, 2006

SummerSlam may have been the Biggest Party of the Summer, but tonight’s RAW from Bridgeport, Conn. may have been the craziest, most unexpected RAW in recent memory. Over the course of a mere two hours, a WWE Championship…and a WWE Champion were thrown into the Long Island Sound, a daredevil returned, a monster was slayed, the Legend Killer’s weekend remained “uncool”, someone joined an exclusive club, D-Generation X left their mark and perhaps most importantly, the WWE Chairman may have finally been broken down by DX.

When SummerSlam came to a close last night in Boston, it appeared as though D-Generation X had overcome the odds to defeat Mr. McMahon and his son Shane in a tag team match. But, as the McMahons were quick to point out tonight on RAW, they never should have been declared the losers. Mr. McMahon was pinned in the match, but Shane was really the legal man. Therefore, according to the McMahons, the loss should be expunged from the record books. The loss, however, ended up being the least of their worries.

DX made their first appearance on RAW via satellite from the airport just minutes away from the Arena at Harbor Yard. Triple H explained that DX had found Mr. McMahon’s prized $30 million jet in the private hanger, and in typical DX-fashion, there was an incident. As HBK and Triple H commented on the aircraft’s beauty while sipping on champagne, The Game noticed that the Showstopper had scratched the paint on the plane. After contemplating whether or not the WWE Chairman would notice, DX revealed a much more disturbing site – the DX logo emblazoned on the jet’s entire side. Mr. McMahon turned beet red as his anger only began to consume him.

The McMahons came to the ring, and the Chairman thought he had the perfect plan in place to take care of DX. He had notified the authorities of DX’s actions, and the police were on their way to the airport. The McMahons planned on watching the arrest play out on the Tiatn Tron, but DX interrupted their plan once again. HBK and Triple H were shown standing on the roof of WWE’s headquarters in Stamford, Conn. The meddlesome duo commented on how great Americans have left their marks in history. Christopher Columbus left his mark in America, Neil Armstrong left his mark on the moon, and they also showed that DX left their mark on WWE. Michaels and Triple H revealed that in addition to having the DX logo plastered on Mr. McMahon’s private jet, it was also front and center on the entire facade of WWE headquarters. After seeing the results of DX’s latest prank, Mr. McMahon was visibly shaken and almost seemed on the verge of tears. Could DX have finally gone over the line?

After heading to the locker room area, the McMahons ran into Mick Foley, who also had an unpleasant SummerSlam. Foley was forced to utter the words “I Quit” at SummerSlam when Ric Flair appeared on the verge of striking Melina with a barbed wire-covered baseball bat. Foley saw the Chairman and said, “Hi Vince.” And with that comment, Foley sealed his fate.

Already enraged by DX’s antics and defiance, the Chairman was infuriated that Foley called him by his first name. Mr. McMahon also recalled that Foley had recently said that he could kiss his ass. In an effort to brighten his own mood, Mr. McMahon said that Mick Foley would be forced to join the Mr. McMahon Kiss My Ass Club or else someone would be fired.

Foley was contemplating whether or not he could complete the dirty deed when he was greeted by Melina. His good friend, who he had just saved from barbed wire the night before, said that she would support him no matter what his decision was. Later in the evening they both came to the ring.

Foley started off by saying, “I love this job. I love WWE. But I don’t need it,” said Foley. “I’ve saved a fortune over the years on apparel, I haven’t had a haircut in 10 years and I drive a used minivan, so you can’t threaten me with my job.”

Before Foley could go much further, Mr. McMahon cut him off and explained that he didn’t say Foley would be fired, he said that “somebody” would be fired. With that, he told Foley that if he didn’t join the exclusive club, Melina would lose her job.

Foley said that no one is worth kissing Mr. McMahon’s ass over, except for Melina. The Diva tried to talk Foley out of it, but the Hardcore Legend was having none of it.

“I’ve already had my career; you’re on the verge of becoming one of the biggest Superstars WWE has ever seen,” said an impassioned Foley. “I had spoken to you three times when I asked my wife if you could be the Godmother to my youngest son Huey. There is something uniquely special about you. This act represents the lowest point of my career, but it’s a small price to pay for the honor of your friendship.”

Trying to get things over with as soon as he could, Foley implored Mr. McMahon to drop his pants, and with that, Foley had joined the Mr. McMahon Kiss My Ass Club. Little did Foley know, that would not be the low point he had alluded to just moments ago. With his back turned to her, Melina delivered a crushing low blow to her supposed friend Foley, dropping him to the mat. Melina joined the McMahons for one last message to Foley. The Chairman said that just like DX, they had two words for him. Then, one can only assume that Foley’s heart broke in two as Melina screamed, “You’re fired.”

Why would Melina do this to her supposed best friend and mentor? One night ago he had saved her from barbed wire and he had just saved her job, but tonight she broke his heart. What could possess her to do this to Foley after he had done so much for her?

Finally, after enduring all of DX’s defiant antics, the McMahons had smiles on their faces once again. But their night was not over. The McMahons got into their limo, seemingly on their way to the airport. But right after the limo began to pull away, the back wheels came right off the car, as the axle had been jerked from under the vehicle. The limo came to a crashing halt, and the McMahons gingerly got out of the limo only to see the DX logo spraypainted on the limo door. Mr. McMahon could not believe his own eyes and could not contain himself. Has the Chairman finally been broken down by DX? Has DX gone too far? Will the Chairman make the duo feel his wrath?

While Mr. McMahon can’t seem to get rid of DX, Edge also can’t seem to get rid of John Cena. After defeating the hometown hero at SummerSlam, the Rated R Superstar thought he had finally written the final chapter of the Edge vs. Cena story. To celebrate what he thought was his happy ending, Lita threw the WWE Championship, which had been originally custom-made for Cena after he won it at WrestleMania 21, into the Long Island Sound. After the crowd watched the gold thrown into the harbor, Edge’s new Championship belt descended from the rafters, complete with his Rated R logo in the center. Then, he challenged anyone in the back to step up and start the next chapter in the Rated R story, but he didn’t expect that it would be Jeff Hardy who would answer the call.

The daredevil returned and knocked Edge down with a reverse mule kick. Hardy then scaled the top rope like he had done so many times during his first run with WWE three years ago. But before the RAW fans could see a patented Swanton Bomb, Edge retreated and headed to the back. Furious at what had happened, Edge demanded that he get Hardy in a non-title match to teach him a lesson. Mr. McMahon’s Executive Assistant granted Edge his wish, but the Rated R Superstar had no idea what he was getting into.

This was Hardy’s first action in a WWE ring in three years, but his history with Edge, and especially Lita, goes back even further than that. Jeff and Lita, along with Jeff’s brother Matt, used to be known as Team Extreme and helped revolutionize the tag team division. Hardy showed no signs of ring rust as he was flying all over the ring, but Edge was able to stay right with him in the early goings. Hardy was able to hit the Twist of Fate and the Swanton Bomb, but as he went for the cover, Lita pulled Edge out from under the ring. With that, John Cena stormed the ring and attacked the WWE Champion.

Edge tried to retreat through the crowd, but Cena was in hot pursuit. The two battled through the back and out the door. The cameras picked them up by the harbor, around the same spot that Lita had earlier tossed the WWE Championship into the Long Island Sound. Cena tossed Edge around like rag doll. He threw him into a bulletin board, he threw him into some bushes, and like a man possessed, he threw him onto the pier. After trying to be separated by a couple of WWE officials, Cena clocked Edge and tossed him into the harbor, just like Lita had tossed the WWE Championship. Cena had clearly sent a message: “I ain’t goin nowhere!” It was later learned that the Harbor Patrol had rescued the WWE Champion from the water, but Cena made it clear that the final chapter in the Edge vs. Cena story had yet to be written.

Joining the list of people in a foul mood following SummerSlam was the Legend Killer Randy Orton. The youngest World Champion in WWE history claimed that he was screwed in his match with Hulk Hogan and even posed the question that the referee could have been paid off. Orton wanted to make up for it by taking on Ric Flair. Carlito interrupted Orton, and said that seeing Hogan’s hand raised at SummerSlam was “cool.” Orton snapped back saying that Carlito was nothing more than an apple, a catchphrase and a silly haircut.

Ric Flair was in no condition to even accept the match after what he had endured the night before. He had gone through baseball bats, barbed wire and thumb tacks in his “I Quit” Match against Mick Foley, but a bruised and bandaged Flair answered the call, refusing to back down from Orton’s challenge. Flair put up a good fight, but Orton caught him with an RKO for the pin. Following the pin, though, Orton continued to attack Flair. The referee reversed his decision, giving the victory to Flair. Irate, Orton looked to be setting Flair up for a second RKO. Before he could pounce on his prey, Carlito rushed to the ring and attacked Orton. The Legend Killer retreated, but will he be looking for revenge on Carlito?

A couple of weeks ago, Kane defeated Shelton Benjamin to become the No. 1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. The Big Red Monster has his chance at the gold tonight against Johnny Nitro. Kane was off-setting Nitro’s athleticism and quickness with brute force and looked to have things going his way. But he was halted by the Samoan Bulldozer Umaga. Just last night at SummerSlam, Umaga had been used as one of the McMahons’ resources in their match against DX. Kane had come down to try and counteract Umaga and sent him retreating to the back. Tonight, Umaga had his revenge. After dropping the Big Red Monster with a Samoan Spike, Kane somehow was able to sit up. Umaga made sure it wouldn’t happen again, though, as he leveled him with a couple of vicious headbutts and then scaled the middle rope and came crashing down with a thunderous Samoan Spike that left Kane bleeding from the mouth. The undefeated Umaga bulldozed Kane.

Plus, the Spirit Squad looked to get revenge on both the Highlanders as well as the team of Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Eugene all in one match as they clashed in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match. The unorthodox foursome proved to be too much for the Squad to handle, though, as the Highlanders pinned Nicky after a slingshot reverse suplex.

And Trish Stratus was able to pick up an impressive victory over Victoria after she escaped the Widow’s Peak and hit Stratusfaction for the win.

I honestly feel that The Highlanders should be getting a push fo rthe Tag Team Titles. It's been quite a while since Raw had a legit tag team that could not only get over with the fans, but also display talent and athleticism for the purists.
