Is there anyone here who is REALLY confident they could change a cps3 third stike battery? I am just too nervous to try it myself. I could ship the rom cart to you and pay for the service.

Let me know guys, and thanks a bunch.

Ive done it a few times, its really piss easy. Just do it with the game running and you shouldnt have any problems.

If youre going to ship it to someone, then you need to send'em the RAM sticks and the CD as well, if they plan on doing it "while hot".

I'm out of 1/2 AA batteries at the moment but should be getting some more soon. I need to replace my SFIII:NG battery so I'll let you know how it goes.

Well, I finally got my 1/2 AA batteries and performed the replacement this evening. I decided to go with a battery holder so that replacing the battery in the future should take less than a minute and not require soldering. I left some of the wires in the back so that I can hook up the backup battery very easily now. The only draw back in using a battery holder in the CPS3 battery replacement is that it is a little bit too big so that the 2 plastic pieces of the security cart will snap back together flush. I ended up dremeling a small area on the back of the plastic security cart in order to accomedate the battery holder. All in all, the CPS3 battery replacement is very easy if you have some soldering skills. Props to David Baltes for his How-To for replacing the CPS3 battery. Here are some pics of the CPS3 battery replacement process.

Here are some pics of my fully assembled CPS3 security cart. The battery is now totally accessible so that you can now change the battery without needing to take the cart apart.

But will you need to take it apart to attach the helper battery?

Yes, for the 1st Gen security carts that have the grounding wire, the backup battery method still must be used so the cart will need to be taken apart. The exposed battery shown here is best suited for 2nd gen security carts like found on SFIII:TS. Both cart types can still have their batteries replaced in less than a minute using a battery holder.

I have molded a fiberglass cover over the hole and painted it black. It came out very nice but the painter's masking tape pulled off alot of the color from the sticker label. Here are some pics.

As requested by demirichris, here are some pics of the successful CPS3 battery swap to his SFIII : TS security cart. Questions and comments are welcome.
