According to the great Naomi GD manual (which seems close to naomi error list as well)

Error 03 is
Board Malfunctioning
Cause: Main board serial number cannot be read out.
Contermeasures: Submit the DIMM board for repairing.

Since VS 2 is only in cart form (as far as i know), you could just have a bad cart. You have any other naomi board to test it on?

One thing I would try is removing and putting the cart back in...

Just to make sure it's not a connection problem...

Make sure it's pressed all the way in...

To mee it sounds like a communication error between the naomi system (mother board) and the game board. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the game. If it does not work try using another game in your system. If you get simular error then there is a problem with your naomi motherboard. If it works (the other game) it looks like there is a problem with your cart.

I dont think its over your noami bios because there is error for when the bios rejects the cart.

Your game is in cart form correct?

If you are still having problems let me know.

I see the edit above.

Hmm not really sure. I get my naomi stuff (board & games) very soon (either this weekend or early next week). If your problem is not solved I will look into it on my side. As well I will keep searching though my games to see if I have a manual with error codes for cart games insted of GD software. (Though I think the error codes are probably the same with a few extra for the GD hardware).

Sorry for the delay in response. Here is the main board bios number: EPR D 21576. On IC22 (from rom board) say EPR C 21929.

Thanks for the link.

Hi!
I still have the same problem. I dont have any cart to test it. I tryed removing and putting the cart back and I still have same problem. Anyway I think the chip IC22 wich shows "----" during ROM BOARD TEST is faulty. I performed an IC22 dumping and I calculated the checksum and it is 254C 5AA1 (not 6AFB 5AA1). Can somebody tell me where I can get info (I mean checksum) on these chip?

Thanks in advance.

I tend to agree,I just tested SFZ3^ GD & IC with USA naomi motherboard and the USA E BIOS, gave me error 3, I know it wouldnt work anyways as Zero3 Upper is a japanese BIOS specific game

Hi,

I tried several options to get my game playable. I changed the bios and the game display that same error. With other cart on the original mother board the game works fine and VS2 ver.2000 is playable on the other mother board. Also I replaced the EPM1064 IC and I still have that same error.

Any other idea? please?

I've got a very similar issue which I can't figure out.

In my case I'm trying to run Ikaruga and keep getting the following Error:
ERROR 04
BOARD MALFUNCTIONING.

The two other GD-ROM games I own work fine (Border Down and Capcom Vs. SNK : Millennium Fight 2000 Pro).

The RAM TEST and the DIMM BOARD test all pass with GOOD status.

I tried cleaning the GDROM, even tried an older BIOS.

So, I can't figure out why I'm getting this message...

Naomi 1 with GD ROM:
I/O board: 837-13551-92
BIOS: EPR-21576H

Any ideas?

Your BIOS and IO version should be OK. I'm wondering if the old ass firmware on your DIMM has anything to do with your issue.

Also holy shit old thread, but I won't rip on you since it's at least relevant.
