Which slug is the best slug?

I personally love MS IV. If you haven't had the chance to play the rest you really should find a way to give them a try. They're all fast paced, fun, and absolutely hilarious. I actually sat through MS IV in its entirety this afternoon, and it still hasn't lost its touch.

MS= Started it all, obviously classic, but doesn't impress much nowadays. I still love it.
MS2= Even better and wicked cool, but had to redo it 'cuz it was buggy...feels fine to me, tho X is obviously better
MSX= Just a sharpened up MS2, but it still rocks. Wicked cool +1
MS3= Epic, awesome and nothing short of classic awesomnity.
MS4= Fun in gameplay, tarred with the name "rehash," though...but pretty good music and did I mention GOOD gamplay?
MS5= Disappointing, weak MS feel to it...basically a bomb dropped on my enthusiasm with Playmore and MS in general...gah, what trash...
Meh, I'll pick MS3.

In terms of gameplay, I feel like X and 3 are almost on par, but then 3 has something that X doesn't - insanity. Level 4, in the underground village against the Japanese army - freakin' nuts. Then they add the vertical shooter at the end. That game just has so much goodness.
But then, in terms of pure sluggery, MS1 is the best.
MS2 has the best insert - by a country mile.

Metal Slug is the greatest all rounder.The scoring system,setting,music,level desgin to me is the best.And it started it all off.
The only problem maybe that's it's too easy and doesn't offer as much replay as say MS3.But i like the difficulty just fine....

I personally don't see why there is so much love for 3.
To me all Slugs feel the same so I voted for the original.

Check out the backgrounds, whats going on, how you can interact with stuff, and the insane amount of score hoarding secrets, coupled with its short length and possibility of one-crediting on MVS, its a classic, and easily the best in the series.
I nearly chose 3 though, but its hard to be good at 3 when you have to keep up a good level of play for such a long amount of time.

Slug 2, because it enhanced the original Metal Slug atmosphere of part one.
It was a hard decision between 1 and 2 for me, but 2 won because it has so many fun secrets/hidden stuff/scoring opportunities.
Some ppl hate the slow downs, but I'm so used to it that I don't really notice it anymore.
3 isn't all that IMO - it contains too many enemies that need multiple hits, huge installations, partly boring bosses, etc. It sure looks awesome and some of its sprites are among the best I've ever seen (the elephant for ex.), but it lacks the flow of the previous games.
At the mo I'm really interested in playing a few rounds of Slug 5, I hope it's not as half-assed as 4.
