Sorry, but I thought I'd get a quicker answer here:

My dad is browsing some German ebay auctions, but the prices are in euros. Thing is, we don't understand how Euros work. The comma is placed like such "30,00". How many Euros would that be? Three thousand? Thirty? We're used to having the commas come every 3 digits. Thanks to any who explain :)

I can't answer the comma, because I myself don't know, but I know the American dollar against the Euro is at an all time low right now, about 1.15 Euro to the dollar.

we use periods instead of commas. So if you have $3.50 then that will be 3,50. If you have 3,000 that will be 3.000 get it? Also it is $1.10 more or less to the Euro if you want a rough estimate.

In Germany it's vice versa, the decimal separator is the comma and we write a "." every three digits. 30,00 would be thirty Euros, 30.000,00 would be thirty thousand Euros, etc.

Yep, same here in Spain:

30,50 = thirty € and fifty cents
3.000,50 = three thousand € plus fifty cents

And for the record, when we say a billion, we are referring to a million of millions, that is 1.000.000.000.000, although in USA it means a thousand of millions, that is 1.000.000.000 (notice I used European notation with a "." every 3 digits).

Why can't we just have the same notation/units for everything? I personally love the metric decimal system, but half the world still uses the old English measures... oh_no
