Hi.
Fisrt of all, I do have a japanese PC-Engine!
A Core GrafX, though I don't play it much 'cause I don't have that many games...
Second, if you're going to be Porto that week you MUST check out the "Queima das Fitas". It's the students big party. Every university has its own and it lasts a whole week. Every night concerts and lots and lots and lots of drinking...
It's better to check it out in a week day 'cause it's just too crowded at the weekend. Also in the week days there's almost only students or former students. It's just better.
Though not Tuesday wich is the day of the "Cortejo" (parade through the city) of the students. All afternoon people getting drunk and partying and at the end almost everyone goes to the "queima" at night, and the night is dedicated to the portuguese "pimba" music (wich is a mix of popular music and very bad singers...) it's just crap music, but everyone enjoys it that day...
Anyway, there's the "queima" in Porto from 4th May 'till 10th may, and in Coimbra from 1st May 'till 7th May.
Though the basis is the same there are some differences between these two "queimas" and I advise you to check them both if you can.
Also, check the program for the day, before you go. In Coimbra the first day (1st May) is only dedicated to the "serenata" (serenade), wich consists of some students singing fado. But it's a different kind of fado from the one that is sung in Lisboa. In Porto the "serenata" is in the first Saturday, but there's party later.
There partys last from the begining of the night, around 10pm until the rise of the day, everyday!
As for the Neo Geo gaming scene, there's only us guys here... The system was never sold in Portugal so It's hard to find stuff here. The same goes for the PC-Engine.
In arcades you can find lots of MVS games, but we don't usually have those cabinets labeled with the SNK brand.
And finally, the clubs you're going to be at.
I'm the only one here that is from Porto (the others are from Lisboa), so I can tell you something.
I never went to "Mantra", so I can't tell how it is, but "Indústria" is one of the oldest and more renowned clubs in Porto. It's great!
About those invitations... it would be great if you could get some...
Anyway, I hope you like it here.
p.s. What is your nickname as a DJ?
