This thread kind of confuses me. Why isn't anyone arguing that the DC is still alive? DC maybe is dead in the US in some sense, but technically that's not even true. What makes the DC what it is is the same in any country.... I mean they make games for the system still, whether or not the games are officially released in the US shouldn't matter in evaluating whether it's a dead system. The fact is that you can play new games on the DC no matter where you live as long as you have the proper tools to bypass the region protection... Or a Japanese system. The guts of the system are the same no matter what though. The DC is alive, it really is.

As for the Neo... yeah it's a miracle that new games are out for it... I say thank the emerging non-japanese asian market. The Japanese buy new Neo games but if it weren't for the new market the thing would be dead by now.

With me saccing over 1100 plus hours of my life to Phantasy Star Online, you'd better belive the system rocks.

KoF 2K on the thing is also probably the best SNK port ever done on a home console system to date.

Good job Playmore. :D </strong><hr></blockquote>

The only system I cherish more than my DC is my SNES...

The Neo is alive because SNK kept it alive, the games still don't sell, but they release them anyways. Why do you think SNK went bankrupt? The barley made enough to break even all those years and it finally caught up with them, they hid from their debt by filing for bankrupcy and opening under a new name (what resturaunts do all the time).

The same thing will happen to them again if they don't make some major changes, in other words develop games for arcade boards that can make some serious cash, MVS games don't make money. KOF games might make a little, but that's the only title that does.

If Playmore decided to port EVERY Neo game over to the DC...well...the Neo would lose interest to a lot of people because of decreasing values.

Put it this way.

Millions of people own Sonic Adventure.

2,793 people own Fatal Fury AES.

I saw this thread and just said "Oh shit...."

Still if you want to see what'll last longer the DC or the Neo, I'd have to say the Neo as they have announced titles for production in 2003, and during that year I don't see new games coming out on DC, even from Japan. Then again I could be wrong as I don't see Playmore sticking with the MVS for too much longer. Not that I agree with it but once they release SNK vs. Capcom on MVS and the bootleggers copy the living fuck out of it and Playmore has one of the hugest games out there (in Japan/Asia) and still aren't making too much money on it cause of the Pir8'z they'll drop Neo development and move to new hardware. They don't got the cash to support this thing. I could be wrong, but I don't think so... ;)

The DC rocks, it kicks ass, I still own more DC games than I do PS2 games. But alas it's just about dead, and yes it was sad but Sony just killed it. They came in, put their foot down and said "Oh hell no son..." and bang Sega went caput.

Still that's how the market works, just move on and get the next system and keep playing the games. I mean its not like it's the system that's important, it's the games you play. Sure the whole "this is neo-geo.com no snk.com" argument can be applied here, that for some reason you people just love the system and the games are good as long as it's on "your system".

Reguardless the DC has tons of games and it's a great system, tons of fun. But if it's dead, get over it, move on, buy a PS2 (or one of those "other" consoles :p ). Great games are still being made even if the thing is gone, hell a lot of em are still coming from Sega!

Peace

Personally I think the DC is JUST as much alive as the neo is... cos there is still games comming out in japan, just like the neo, and above that, its the fans that keep a system alive!! Just like we all do at neo-geo.com :p

Peace

the Dreamcast is such a great system, i got mine Xmas '99 and sonic adventure, wow... totally amazing. I hate the PS2 with a passion, i mean it's been out 18 months now and there are what, 10 killer apps?

the dreamcast had more than that in it's first YEAR!!!

mainstream stupidity just really pisses me off. the ps2 promised so much and hasn't delivered. there is still no modem, the dvd playback is poor, many ps1 games have trouble playing on the ps2 (this is in europe however it may be diff.in the us), and the general quality of the games is shockingly poor.

if there's one thing i can say about the Xbox, EVERYTHING they promised they delivered. That's being good to the consumer.

oh and yes, the KOF2K port is excellent, i played '99 after 2K, which i always thought was a good port, but i noticed how smaller the sprites seem to be, and the fact they have lots of jaggies, playmore seemes to have smoothed these out for 2K. '99 is still an excellent port though and well worth playing for what, 10 bucks?

i will support my DC to the end, i'm waiting for my ikaruga to come and will certainly be buying 2k1 on it's release.

You might want to read Nightmare Tony's post, Drift! Since he (i.e. Nightmare Tony) worked for SNK, I think he knows what he is talking about. ;)

Drift King: I beg to differ quite drastically. The MVS system made SNk a TON of money and was very much the bread and butter of the company for many years. The older dedicated game setups like Touchdown Fever and Street Smart fell by the wayside, with only Beast Busters and Mechanized Attack still being regular earners.
The MVS is simply the world's best selling arcade game unit with over 1 million units sold worldwide. The software market for it is still huge with profit potential simply because unless a game is a true dog, an MVS title coming out WILL sell and make money, plain and simple.

the real beginning of the end for SNK was three-fold. The Neo Print which was a neat invention until others jumped in the market and saturated it, with the company being moved up north. Dumb move. The Neo-64 I also feel was a mistake, as the R & D took so long that the game system was already obsolete by the time it came out. far better to have simply did some software for the Naomi system and keep making MVS games.

Mr. Kawasaki was smart in selling off SNK when he saw the handwriting on th4e wall. Sadly, the new group that took over was completely inept in their dealings, causing the company to fold. Sigh.

The market is still strong for the MVS, though. The 3D fighting games have become vERY old hat and the 2D fighters which do come out for the MVS out earn them, by much better gameplay. plus the MVS is set for most any type of game, so it really does have a future.

Its all about making good games. <hr></blockquote>

One major reason why the Dreamcast is my favorite system is all the games for it made by Sega themselves. The Capcom and SNK games come in 2nd place, so let's hope we see Capcom and Playmore continue the tradition with the next gen consoles.

But anyway, back to Sega. I own all 3 of the next gen systems, just so that I can play all the Sega games that come out now. The only reason I own an XBox is for Panzer Dragoon Orta.

Sega's goal is to become the #1 videogame company in the world. I think that while, yes, Peter Moore did kill off the DC pre-maturely in the US, it would've happened anyway, and he wanted to focus on Sega's new direction. It's obvious he's committed to turning the company around. If that means he has to piss off a few fans, that's ok, becuase we're still gonna buy the Sega games and Sega will still make their money and make new fans of their games on other systems. Like it or not, Peter Moore is gonna save Sega of America.

Sega WILL make EA their bitch and become the #1 Videogame company by this time next year. I gaurantee it. And that's one hell of a change from being a company that hadn't made a profit in years.

I know the good old day sof Sega consoles are over. But who knows. Once Sega becomes the dominant force in the videogame market that they are destined to be, ya never know what could happen. Regardless, as long as Sega keeps making the best games, we can still play them and be proud to know that we were with Sega from the begining.

Sega killed the DC by not making it DVD. I mean, if they would of waited and released it around the same time as the PS2 (japan and stateside) it would of owned. With double the lineup of games compared to the PS2's pathetic lineup....
