EX-EMULATION ADDICT!

Browsing around all the interesting topics on the Neo GEO.com site, i came across quite a few topics on Emulation. Now i am not exagerating about this. I was VERY addicted to emulation. Especially Neo GEO emus. I literally would only sleep 1-2 hours everynight, to feed my Obsession, of greedily downloading ROMS(GAMES)with my broadband connection. It really became a Problem. NO JOKE. Now came in another factor, I went All out and bought Stupid HUGE $350.00 joystick controllers to "enhance the arcade experience" the damn things were the size of my DESK!. As if that werent enough, i bought other versions of the same controller, Then I would buy Really expensive CD-rs. to put the roms on. I mean i was spending $$$$$$$$$$$ on emulation. Then i got wind of some site, "SELLING" the ROMS on cd collections. I was hooked. But that wasnt enough....I still had to have my OWN COPIES OF ROMS ON MY CDS" as "back-up", now was i Pathetic or what? Any now To make the story a little shorter, all this ultimately led to the Purchase of a DVD burner(THAT IS NOW JUST SITTING THERE WITH NO USE!)because i had to have all the NEO GEO roms on ONE disc. I WAS OUT OF CONTROL.
I throwing money away Bigtime on this Emulation CRAP.
NOW I HATE TO BURST CERTAIN "PEOPLES BUBBLES" BUT I CONSIDER MY SELF AN AUTHORITY ON EMULATION, SO THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO SAY THAT EMULATION IS BETTER OR WHO HAS THE NERVE TO SAY IT HAS SURPASSED OF ALL CONSOLES OUR BELOVED NEO GEO. YOU ARE ALL FULL OF S^%@#%$!@$T!!!!!
REASON WHY I LEFT THE "EMULATION COMMUNITY"
ONE DAY I REALIZED THAT WHAT I WAS DOING IS WRONG. I WAS KIDDING MYSELF. SEE THOSE WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH EMULATION, THERE IS A PROCESS THAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY "UPGRADE" EMULATORS TO SUPPOSEDLY PLAY GAMES BETTER, OR PLAY NEW "previously un-emulated games", BUT WHAT THESE SICKOS FAIL TO TELL YOU IS THAT WITH EACH RELEASE OF A NEW VERSION OF AN EMULATOR, SOME GAMES BECOME"BROKEN" SO YOU REALLY NEVER GET A "PERFECT" PORT OF ANY ARCADE GAME. A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS IS THE LATEST RELEASE OF MAME(the most popular emulator period!)ALL THE NEO GEO GAMES ARE "BROKEN". THE BACKGROUNDS ARE GARBLED ON ABOUT 85 % OF ALL THE GAMES. THEY LOOK HORRIBLE, AND PLAY OR LOOK NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING BABY. I HONESTLY TRIED TO KEEP UP WITH THE EVER CHANGING EMULATORS, BUT FINALLY REALIZED HOW FOOLISH IT WAS. I MEAN YOU SHOULD GO INTO A EMULATION FORUM, PEOPLE JUST WINE, COMPLAIN, AND BITCH TO THE AUTHORS OF thESE EMULATORS: WHY DOESNT THIS GAME WORK?? OR WHEN WILL THIS GAME BE EMULATED?? THEY ARE A BUNCH OF GREEDY BASTARDS!! (hey i was one of them, im no angel)FOR GOD SAKES THE STUFF IS FREE, THEN I STARTED TO STARE AT THE BLANK, PLANE CD CASES OF MY CDRs WITH ROMS IN THEM, AND STARTED MISSING THE FUN AND THE BEAUTY OF THE ARTWORK, AND THE CASINGS ON "REAL" GAMES, AND SAID TO MY SELF, THIS IS WRONG, THIS IS NOT WHAT GAMING IS ABOUT. ITS REALLY SAD. NOW THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE READ THIS FAR, I DONT MEAN TO SOUND MENTAL, I JUST KNOW AT LEAST 1 PERSON WILL RELATE. AND HELP PEOPLE REMEMBER WHAT GAMING IS ABOUT, THE FEELING OF AQUIRING A HARD TO FIND GAME, AND FINALLY HOLD IT IN YOUR HAND, NOT JUST GREEDILY DOWNLOAD AND PLAY IT ON A 13 INCH SCREEN , WHITH A HALF ASS CONTROLLER ON A PC.
SO ALL THOSE WHO SAY THAT EMULATION HAS PASSED THE "REAL THING"/ YOU ALL NEED TO SERIOUSLY GET OVER IT. YOU GUYS ARE ON THAT RIVER IN EGYPT. SO GET A JOB, SAVE UP SOME, CASH, OR EVEN SELL THAT PIECE OF JUNK PC YOUR TRYNG TO PLAY NEO GEO ROMS ON, AND GET YOUR SELF A NEO CANDY, A CDZ, OR A CART SYSTEM EVEN, NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO HAVING ONE OF THOSE BABIES IN YOUR ROOM TO ENJOY, BE PROUD OF, AND GET HOURS OF FUN OUT OF.
SO KEEP IT REAL GUYS, TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE THAT WAS CAUGHT UP IN THAT FIASCO. YOU MAY BE THINKING,"THIS GUY IS CRAZY, ITS NOT THAT SERIOUS" OH IT IS , EMULATION IS GROWING FASTER THAN ALOT OF YOU THINK.
METAL SLUG3 AND SENGOKU 3 EMULATED,,,,,GEEEZ THOSE GUYS ARE OUT OF CONTROL, GIVE THE DAMN GAMES AT LEAST SOME GRACE PERIOD.

LETS NOT FORGET NEO GEOS'S LITTLE 2D POWER HOUSE BROTHERS, SATURN, DREAMCAST, TURBO DUO.

I too emulated (although not to the extent that you did) and was thinking it was the best thing ever. Then I realised how much it really SUCKED compared to the real thing.

Well if it's sitting there with no use, well that's why god gave us eBay. Believe me, you'll get most of your money back.

Also, I don't know what the hell you bought, but um honestly you spent way too much on controllers. You can build one or buy one for $80.

And as far as games not being perfect. Well I've been comparing games played on my home made MVS and my Laptop's TV out on MAME, and the games look pretty much identical. If you play beta releases or "custom" builds of emulators don't whine and tell me things get "corrupted".

As a matter of fact I happen to know a lot about programming, and I can tell you that since all the Neo Geo games run on the same hardware, they're really easy to emulate. When they update a emulator they can keep the same Neo Geo code, cause THERE IS NO NEED TO UPDATE IT. The new games that you need "updated" emulators for, are the same exact codes of mame, they just let it load the new decrypted roms. No code is changed to the Neo Geo emulator to decrpyt the roms on the fly. They just decrypt the rom and let it fly into the EMU code.

If you went overboad and made some really really stupid decisions with EMU's don't tell everyone else that they suck.

2. WAIT FOR WINDOWS TO LOAD.
3. MAKE SURE WINDOWS RECOGNIZES YOUR BOOTLEGG
homemade controller
4. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SYSTEM RESOURCES ON YOUR PC WERE AT LEAST AT 98-99%
5. OPEN UP THE EMULATOR.
6. SELEC THE GAME
7. SELECT THE RESOLUTION YOU WANT(i usual went with 800x600 styretched
8. make sure you switch on FULL SCREEN MODE(OH GAMERS,PLAYING GAMES FULL SCREEN IS A LUXURY FOR EMUHOLICS, FOR US GAMERS ITS NOT A MIRACLE OF TECHNOLOGY THAT OUR GAMES FILL OUR TV SCREEN)
9. DONT FORGET FULLSCREEN, CAUSE WHEN YOU EXIT AN EMULATOR, MOST OF THEM RESET ALL YOUR OPTIONS TO DEFAULT , MAKING YOU TWEAK IT AGAIN(like the full screen in KAWAKS)
10. and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11/. OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR BULKY COMPUTER KEYBOARD HANDY, SO YOU CAN TYPE COMMAND LINES FOR THOSE "AWSOME " DOS , EMULATORS, AND TO PRESS ESCAPE WHEN YOU GET BORED OF PLAYING A GAME AFTER 30 SECONDS, BECAUSE YOU DOWNLOADED IT FOR FREE, AND ARE COMPLETELY TAKING THE GAME FOR GRANTED, AND CAN AFFORD TO DO THAT.
12.OH............AND HAVE FUN.
(The steps listed above are based on a "EMULATION PERFECTIONIST" ritual process
of starting gameplay on a PC. Routines may very for the worse.

I use Mame (and kwakis for MS3 and KOF2k) on my Laptop, which I use because it has TV out (ie. I play my ROM's on a TV) which ELIMINATES 99% of the visual problems you'll find on a EMU.

And my point about the controllers is that just because you spent way to much money on them, doesn't mean it's a waste. You can build those controllers for about $40, not even that much.

I've played a lot of games on ROM and I've noticed a very small amount of REAL bugs in Neo games. I never played Ninja's commando's, but I'm sure that for like what? 2 games out of an entire library the EMU's on a TV with real arcade controls are pretty damn perfect compared to the real thing.
Also, I don't know what you were running for MOTW or KOF99, but my copy of MAME32 that I haven't updated in a while runs their prototype ROM's just fine. I'm sure they'll dump the full ROM's soon now that the encryption was cracked and any small BG discrepancies will be fixed, IF ANY.

Don't go ragging on me man, I'm just telling you what I know.

Emulators are (for me atleast) tools to preserve games once the hardware once and unavoidably fails.

Who said you MUST play them, and who said ALL games work 100% perfect? That's just plain ridiculous.

Various leaps and strides have been made in the past 17 years and with things like the Raspberry Pi, SNES/NES Classic and NeoGeo Mini, emulation is in the mainstream. Neo Geo is 99% perfectly emulated in MAME. How times have changed.

Agreed, when people come over they ask me why I have six old consoles under my TV when I could just use Retroarch to play all the games. It's just not the same, aside from emulation never being 100% accurate. I want to use the original controller, I even enjoy the 'ceremony' of getting a game out of its case or the longer load times!

Even so, I still prefer owning the original games. I do like emulation for the purposes of trying out games, to determine if it is worth purchasing, though. And also, emulation is great for playing your games on a handheld device.

These dudes were talking about downloading a full set of NeoGeo Roms in few hours and burning them to cd's lol.

I was rocking out to NeoRageX on the PC and that shit was unbelievable at the time. It was that emulator that sparked my curiosity. I only had played a handful of Neo Games at the arcade in my younger years.

NeoRageX is something I haven't thought about for a good while, I remember when the KOF2000 rom was dumped and the bullshit you had to do to get it working on NeoRageX.
