MS paint is the one I use most for pixel editing and cutting and pasting layers, but is there any good imaging software that allows you to do translucency and fading effects?

In other words - some badass software good for picture manipulation?

Adobe is actually in the $600 range.
If you have friend in college or something
you could get the student version for about
$200, or try your luck on ebay.

Photoshop is by far and away the BEST you can get. But for 90% of the work you'd do you can just go get the more affordable Photoshop Elements, as it has just about every single tool in Photoshop (pretty much every tool I use for making inserts and the like) except the high end print stuff thats in the full blown PS. Its cheap too, like under $100 for the normal street price.

I have Photoshop Elements as well, everything I use is included. It came packed in with my scanner.
