The Mystery of The Yellow Boxes in CvS2....

Madman's Cafe had briefly speculated on this, so I'll further the speculation.

If you look at the character select screen in CvS2, not only do you see the reamining "shadow" yellow boxes, but you also see 14 non shadowed yellow boxes on the corners of the screen...including two boxes that are oddly sticking out at the furthermost corners (E. Ryu and O. Iori?)

What can this be? Unnecessary decoration? Time released characters? Maybe one last bid on my part to get Andy Bogard on board?

My Guess is as good as yours, Soul Dragon. It might be any of that you've said. Anyway.. we'll just wait and see. I won't be suprised in seeing the no. of characters ala MvC2 (56 Characters), though

I think it's secret characters..
I don't think Capcom is dumb enough to give hints without having their fans hopes up.

those yellow-like boxes might probably be hidden character reserves. i hope K' and Shiki might be included there.

Well, Capcom is advertising 44"+" characters. Now, let's do a little math...

28 core (non-hidden) characters in CvsS1
+
5 hidden characters (apart from EX's)
-
Evil Ryu & Orochi Iori (who apparently have yet to be spotted in any way shape or form, from screenshots to artwork (correct me if I'm wrong here, folks))
+
11 new characters (including Joe and Dan)
=

Now if that doesn't indicate the presence of hidden characters (at least E. Ryu and O. Iori), I don't know what will.

They ARE NOT having EX versions from what I heard. All EX moves have been transferred to the normal versions... except for O.Iori and E.Ryu's moves (duh).

Remember what happened in the first game: Only in the last mounth b4 the release, we got screenshots of almost all the cast. B4 that, we only had confirmed 12 characters. I think Capcom will do the same thing now, since the game will be released in September (IMO i think it will be in August), they can do lots of things. At least draw some SNK chars and recycle some other Capcom chars (i expect no more of 60)

But please, Capcom, redraw Morrigan. She really need it.

BTW, don't ya think that the oficial artist (whoever he is) has given to Morrigan and Mai with such a sensual lips? <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Personally, I'm hoping for at least one more Garou character...why only have Rock AND base an entire Groove on the game? If that's the case, I vote for Bonne Jenet, any of Kim's sons, or Khushnood Butt (won't happen...too many shotos). As for Third Strike characters, the "new" TS Chun-Li may be Capcom's excuse for not adding another guy like...ahem...cough...ALEX! Hope not.

Steve...I know what you're hinting at...but since Kim Dragon is an ADK character, I don't think so. I'd think Capcom would go with Fei-Long first, anyway. I do miss Dragon, tho.

I haven't spotted any of the "Evil" characters in the screenshots. Akuma made it to the regular cast, but so far no sign of two completely made, playable sprites. They're in there somewhere. So I agree with JIrish's theory. Capcom did say 44+ on their own website, but in Cap-language that could mean anywhere from 2 to 52 for all we know.

At least there definitely won't be EX guys. Terry Bogard is finally the man he's supposed to be!

I'm hoping for more Darkstalkers characters because Morrigan just isn't enough for one of Capcom's greatest fighting game series... And please don't make it Felicia and BB hood again.... put Demitri in!

Well, this is what I think. The boxes that appear with only silhouettes of characters are not for secret characters. They are for characters that haven't been completed enough to be playable yet. Look at the locations of the boxes with silhouettes, which have somewhat random positions and are not symmetrical on the CAP/SNK sides.

In Capcom's web site the E3 page includes this in its CvS2 description: "Choose from an arsenal of over 44 characters...". If you count all of the boxes that include characters (including the silohuettes), there are 45. The one to the right of Todo is barely discernable, but is certainly not all black. Whether there is/will be another to the left of the left-most silohuette (Dan?) is uncertain, although I hope there will be.

In any case, since there are almost undoubtedly more than 2 hidden characters (CvS had 5), it only makes sense that the "blank" squares will be for the hidden characters. And it does seem most likely that the furthest two are Evil Ryu and Orochi Iori.

In conclusion, I expect this game to have 60 or 59 characters!

It's true, and damnn good! Although Evil Ryu and Orochi Iori were EX characters (in a different way) in CvS1, they could still constitute seperate characters without being EX, as seen in other games, such as SFA3 and MotM.

I would like to see a couple more Vampire characters myself, but given Capcom's recent take to obscurity, I doubt Demitri will be one of them. Jon Talbain would seem likely to me.

I kinda like his new jacket. Though, his 99/00 duds are better. Oh, and ROTB, knowing Capcom, they'll probably put in Marionette <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Soul, I too miss Kim Dragon, as Fei Long was a weak man's Dragon, at the most.

If this makes you feel any better, I think you oughta know this, the World Hero characters are OWNED by SNK, and NOT ADK. Yes, it's true.

So simply stated, we're looking at free agents. I think Capcom just has no love or respect for the WH characters and what a shame if true. Dragon was a kick ass fighter.

i think that the game would have about 60 characters.i'm still wondering why leona is just a side-show or should i say no-show in the game.she is just a background character! not a playable character.damn! <IMG SRC="smilies/veryangry.gif" border="0">

Steve, the first King of Fighters was supposed to have a World Heroes Team included. They were then taken out for some reason or another. Damn shame as at one time World Heroes 2 was one of the top fighters of it's time and was the game that really stuck me to SNK's side for good. Back when all SNK fighters were finally getting recognition we had a Neo MVS 4 slot cab. in our store with Fatal Fury 2, Art of Fighting, World Heroes 2 and 3 Count Bout. We also had a Street Fighter 2 upright as well. World Heroes 2 hands down raked in more money than the other games combined (with a little of my own $$ too!!). We never made more money than when we had that combination in that cab. Those were the good ol' days!!

Capcom may have put some of the WH characters in CVS 2 already.... just in those secret character spaces. Hopefully, maybe we'll see either Captain Kidd or Rasputin in there.... Here's hoping!

I think that Capcom will add hopefully more char. to the gang and hopefully we will see ch. like Takuma becuase he was in the background in the first game and also Goro...plus we might see I am sorry if I am going to spell his name wrong (jubai or something like that) from s.s Because he too was in the background and also we might see Mature hopefully because she also is in the first game as non-playable ch....don't you think they will I think thoes Y.B are for new ch. that yet to be conf. <IMG SRC="smilies/smirk.gif" border="0">

Well, Lilith was actually the first announced "new" Capcom character for CvS2 late last year, and she is very popular in Japan... I'd be very surprised if she isn't one of the hidden characters.
