CAPCOM VS. SNK PRO for PSX: The Full Review
Introduction: PSX, you gringe at the thought of loading time makes you shiver in disgust, doesn't? Well CVS Pro is here in the US now, and though loading time is 8 seconds flat for each load (i.e. each round or when you start or continue) So let's start the fighting tournament shall we?
Graphics: Very solid 2D Animation, The Intro is beautiful IMHO, down side is pixeled looking flames from fire balls and the characters as well have ridges on them (But I still say that doesn't do it to ruin the joy of CVS). Missing frames of animation have been proclaimed to be running about, but since I have never played the Dreamcast verison, I can't notice them. So shame on me I guess lol. To me, the animation is decent, game speed is quite old school, the way I LIKE IT! Backgrounds are beautiful as well, nice detail
Overall Rating 7 out of 10
Controls: Top notch, 4 button Neo Geo style, but I highly recommend you find a joystick, cause I like my fighters with arcade feel. (Good Joystick for PS1. I recommend is the Blaze Pro-Shock Stick: Price $10-15, it's mini, but does the job well to put Rugal back into his place
)But if you love the PSX controller, more power to you, I don't blame ya or judge you for that ^_^ Overall Controls: 10 out of 10 (You really can't mess up a 2D fighters controls)
Gameplay: JOE HAGASI PEOPLE! I mean come on! I know you Joe fans are out there! DO IT FOR JOE! or do it for DAN, for all you DAN FANS!! Ok, we got 5 hidden characters (Nakoruru, Morrigan, Gouki, Orochi Iori, and Evil Ryu), Groove Points to earn for every time you finish the game, or when you go into pratice mode, you get 10 points for each minute you spend. You beat the game you get over 310 Groove Points automatically, thats enough to unlock one hidden character or buy 6 EX Characters (50 points each), so earning stuff will be time consuming, if your not in a real hurry. 2 Groove Figting Styles, Capcom Style (3 bars to do supers), SNK Style (Looks like a little mix of Samurai Shodown and KOF style with a similar "rage meter" or "desprate move" when your life is low, which means you can do supers like crazy): Overall Gameplay Rating 8.5 out of 10
Sound: Music pumping like hell, nice groove to it, love this soundtrack, voice and sound effects fully in tact from the original, nothing is missing, I'm surprised all the victory pose voice clips are in tact. Most impressive, pump up the volume, it's good stuff. 9 out of 10
Overall Rating Combined: 8.6 Max
Final Opinion: You are on a strict budget, but want a new solid fighter for a cheap price? CVS Pro is it, for $19.99, you can't argue with that. Playing it on the PSOne LCD screen is THE SHIT! I couldn't help it, finally seeing CVS in portable form was a gift from god lol Another note, all the loyal Neo Geo CD fans will love this, because regardless, the loading times don't mean a thing to me, I'm a patient person when it comes to games, don't like rushing with hyper combos with 123 hits, that's retarded. I like realistic hits and CVS Pro is my cup of tea.
I Hope you all will enjoy or at least give it a shot for the LAST PSX Fighter as much as I do.
