degozaru is an ancient form of "de gozaimasu" which is now simply "desu"
As for me, I am not Japanese. My girlfriend is. We have been together for over 5 years, and I have often stayed at her house in Yokohama (right by Tokyo). And therefore, as a non-Japanese, I have the accent of a gaijin (foreigner). But your teacher is right - you can tell where a person is from by hte way the accents/inflections etc.</STRONG>
