Treasure announced that their upcoming Dreamcast shooting game Ikaruga will not be sold at game shops, the game will be sold online at Sega's D-Direct online store. Ikaruga is scheduled for release in Japan on September 5, for 6800 yen.

I can see prices going up, and availability going way down.

As long as this doesn't affect my pre-order at NCSX, it doesn't bother me too much.

It is a shame, however, that now even LESS people will be able to experience the game. Oh well.

Bring it on NCSX. Bring it on.

damn. That must mean that the production run is really small. Better buy a bunch.

Well it scared me into getting a copy!

I wanted it but wasn't sure if I wanted to fork over the $60 for it. But since it may be hard to get later on (aka, go up inprice, like Radient Silvergun), I better get it now so I can play it.

Peace

Yep. All my sensors tell me that Ikaruga will be the DC's Radiant Silvergun, with all the nasty side-effects of being a legend/rarity/etc.

I too have preordered it, from Otaku HK. I will ask them right away about that exlcusive sales thingy.

Why Treasure would do that is beyond me... perhaps the distributors/resellers were not as enthusiastic as most of us about a new shooter for a near-dead console...

Hmm that doesn't sound good

But is ncsx.com having problems with that? Doesn't appear to be an issue for them with Dreamcast KOF 2000 coming out next month - that's another D-Direct only game, isn't it?

personally i hate the way treasure runs. sure , they make great games, but their cashing in.

1) treasure know that many DC owners want ikaruga.
2) treasure know how over-rated they've become with gamers, and people will scramble to buy anything with their name on it.
3) treasure announce a DC port of ikaruga.
4) treasure see's a way of charging people for their name, and makes a copy of ikaruga increase from 5,800 yen to 6,800+ yen - very crafty!
5) treasure makes the people who haven't ordered a copy yet worry they may not get one by saying the game will not be sold in stores.
6) treasure milk 'supply and demand' to it's full $$$$ potential.

sure, good business sense. but is that anyway to treat it's consumers???

well they've made some great games, but the treasure("inc") name gets no respect from me.

They only ship inside Japan, you can't order it from D-Direct.

NCS has carried D-Direct games on the day of release in the past. I'd say that if you place a preorder with NCS, you should be pretty safe. That's no GUARANTEE, mind you, but it's a pretty safe bet.

You suck, D-Direct.

Hopefully NCS will be able to make good on my preorder... if not, then perhaps someone I know in Japan will be able to score one (or two) for me.

Magic Box has been wrong on many occasions and this looks like one of them. Nowhere on Treasure's site nor D-Direct does it say Ikaruga is a D-Direct exclusive.

Also, NCS did have problems getting all D-Direct titles that were not sold in Hong Kong upon release.

Yep..still waiting for my D-Direct copy of Space Channe 5 part 2 that I ordered from NCSX. If this is D_Direct exclusive, we may not get it at all.

I'm not too sure but I think magic-box is wrong. I think there is going to be a regular release and a D-direct release. The D-direct one comes with a postcard. I'm not 100% sure about this though.

It's funny. NCS was never able to get Space Channel 5 2 for DC, but Video Game Depot had no problem whatsoever.

Neither of them ever got Netto de Tennis. Good old Toys n Joys came through on that one, though.

Quit your worrying, NCSX has said that this is their biggest preorder to date and they are going to make tons of money from this release, they are not going to let there biggest cash cow to date not to be released, it just won't happen, people that preordered at NCSX will get Ikaruga when it is released.

Shit, I still hadn't made my pre-order at NCSX (as they said they would store plenty of them anyway), and after reading that I did it right away "just in case". Maybe NCSX has started that rumor in order to get more pre-orders?

However I think is not fair that people want to buy a high amount of them to resell them at higher prices. In fact many people is doing so with this game, so I predict they won't be successful and will end having to eat them.
:D

Wait, I must admit I did the same with Radiant Silvergun and Shen Mue 2 PAL, but I had personal reasons (revenge against Calvo Cabron and American sellers)
