Why is it that everyone except for Shawn is taking pre-orders on Metal Slug 3?

Could it be because Shawn is behind the re-production?

Mike,

You should be troubled about other things, like River Plate and Rosario Central beign humilliated at the Copa Libertadores by Cruz Azul.

Personally, we've ("VGD") seen these offers from SNK before and they usually go by the wayside (ie.... "We're sorry, there weren't enough orders so we're not making them blah blah de blah")

Maybe so, but you know what... At this point, you just gotta believe. SNK is all but dead, so if there's a chance of a few repros, extra games, whatever what do we have to lose? The absolute worst thing that could happen is that SNK could do exactly what you described. From a retailer standpoint, is that so bad?

To be honest, I expect better from VGD. Instead of some support of the effort, SNK fans who check the VGD site daily get the following:

"I'm not asleep... just... resting my eyes...

No news = no updates =/"

That's pretty lame for a retailer who (I thought) takes pride in supporting the hardcore gamer. Is it that you weren't offered, or decided to ignore the Metal Slug 3 deal?

Why not get on the phone and let SNK know you're interested in the deal? Surely you could draw some VGD faithful to preorder the MS3 re-release and ensure that SNK takes notice of the interest in their Neo Geo products.

Here is the outcome before it happens, the excuse...
First "someone" will annouce that because there were not enough preorders there will be no reproductions, whos going to be the scapegoat this time?

Ask yourself some other questions...

Non-supply of MS3 MVS when there are large orders outstanding

Same for KOF 2000

Sengoku 3 in small quantities only at this time - possibly due to small current inventory stocks of older componenets - after all it is an old game

Figure it out from that - these things cost money to manufacture - and I mean cash, especially after you've gone through a chapter 11 - who is going to give you credit.

Just 10c worth - but think about it people.

Don't beat on the consumer distributors for not taking pre-orders when they probably won't come - your customers will only take so many cancelled pre-orders before they start to go somewhere else - where they will probably find the same thing.

I did not know that there was outstanding demand for the MS3 and KOF2000 MVS titles. It does seem like Sengoku3 is a little scarce.

As for the money issue, that's a really good question. I wonder if NCS is having to pay now?

I honestly think looking at the customer / vendor relationship that a place like VGD has, most of the folks that would preorder a $268 Neo cart will be pretty educated on the situation. I can't imagine someone getting upset with the vendor if it doesn't happen.

I ordered one from NCS, and I need another MS3 like I need another ...

So how many people think that this is actually going to happen?

Is any of this stuff real news? GEEZ! Where the hell is SS5 already, man this is a slow fucking hobby, geez.

The best year of the neo for me was in 96 when I got my neo cd which started my home cart and mvs etc, shit collecting.
Sad thing is the hobby has not been this slow in a while. Maybe I will pick up a S3 sometime this year.

I honestly don't think its gonna happen, though it would be great. I would love for NGF to swallow their arrogance...

Well, I pre-ordered mine from NCSX, but its a shot at having it, rather then having no shot.

Jeff at Vektorlogic is quite correct, especially with reference to MS3 MVS. I've been trying to source a copy of that game for a local arcade operator that I help out (just got him a KOF2K for 285, complete), but MS3 is not to be had ANYWHERE. They were around for a while, then POOF, all gone!! There is a great deal of unmet demand out there for MS3 MVS, so SNK needs to get another production run going. They need to either get off their fat asses and produce more, or just shut down and sell the rights to another company that WILL make them, like Capcom. Does it show that I'm a bit disgusted with SNK right now? They have hot properties that would benefit greatly from sequels, i.e. Samurai 5, Garou 2, Last Blade 3, but they just fuck around and do NOTHING. Sorry for the foul language, but SNK should, put in very crude terms, either shit or get off the pot. They aren't accomplishing anything IMO, Sengoku 3 is a weak release of some old lame title, NitD was interesting but also weak, lets get some REAL properties out on the table and not this rehashed old garbage. Just my angry .02 . . .

I think NitD is one of the better Neo Geo games, it is damn simple and easy to get into, but there is a lot of depth and skill involved in mastering it... I am very happy with Nigtmare in the Dark. Sengoku 3 I agree completly, it plays like an old game. I would have loved this 6-8 years ago, but now it just feels so dated and I get very bored playing it. To tell you the truth, even a new Garou or KoF is just as boring... whats new, whats innovative about them. I think NitD was the first innovative title SNK has had in a long time... Perhaps I am just bored

WELL, ITS ONE THING TO SAY "MAKE SEQUELS" BUT THEN WE LOOK AT CRAPCOM......

THEYVE PLAYED THEIR STREET FIGHTER TRUMP CARD TO DEATH......

SURE A COUPLE MORE SEQUELSD BE NICE, BUT ITS THE INNOVATIVE NEW GAMES ID LIKE TO SEE AS WELL.......

NIGHTMARE LOOKS INTERESTING TO ME, EVEN IF THEY SAY IT GETS BORING......
THE FACT IS, GAMES LIKE SAVAGE REIGN ETC ALSO NEED SEQUELS........

ID RATHER A GOOD GAME ANYDAY RATHER THAN AN OVERPOPULAR FRANCHISE RECIEVING ANOTHER SEQUEL (NOT THAT I DONT LOVE SAMURAI SHODOWN) LB2 WAS MADE, WHAT 2-3 YEAR AGO?

I THINK IT CAN SUSPENSFULLY WAIT A FEW MORE YEARS, AND COME OUT AN ORIGINAL NEW GAME, WITH ALOT MORE TO OFFER!

SEQUELS OF POPULAR BRANDNAMES ARE NOT THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING.......

EVEN MIGHTY CRAPCOM KNOWS THEIR TIME IN THE SUN IS FADING, BECAUSE THE OLD DOG DONT HAVE ANY NEW TRICKS, AND THE OLD TRICKS GROW TIRESOME.........

Two things come to mind here:

1.) We don't offer prebooks on merchandise that all vendors do because:
a.) We only offer prebooks on things that we're certain we can get (unlike *MANY* others who take prebooks and then say "sorry, we couldn't get any. bye bye")
b.) We've been stiffed in the past and can't offer it with firm assurance that our customers will recieve the games (see: our prebooks on Neo carts/CD's that were subsequently bought by NGF (and then sold through NCS).

2.) SNK, hasn't made this order official (to either us or any of our Asian contacts to our knowledge.

I think our commitment towards the neo platforms (all) speaks for itself and if we were to be offered ANY neo rereleases, we would certainly be among the first to support it if we had reasonable assurance that we could deliver.

I agree wholeheartedly with chimpmeister. SNK has a LOT of red-hot franchises that people still play if not remember with great fondness. And IMO, they really need to put KoF to pasture. It's more played-out and overexposed than even the SF series currently is (again IMO).

These franchises need a (2D) sequel ASAP: Samurai Shodown, Garou, and Metal Slug (in that order). After that, make all the new titles you want. Last Blade 3 would be great, although I don't think it's quite as popular as the other three "Big Guns".

For some crazy reason (and this is *really* far-off) I think SNK just doesn't want the FF franchise to continue to thrive or usurp KoF as SNK's flagship fighting series. I honestly can't BELIEVE SNK would re-release a run of MS3 to Garou (no offense to the MS series, but I don't see MS3 carts being offered and sold for half the average Garou). Instead, they just seem content to let the KoF franchise be their big series and put the others on the back burner.

A LOT of people are STILL talking about Garou. There's a TON of people that have heard about the great qualities of this game and have yet to play it. I don't understand why SNK seems content with this being the niche "hard to find, yet awesome to play" game.

End rant
