Zangief used to be my favorite 2D fighter/grappler of all time. That is until I played my first KOF a few years ago which was '99. After playing with Clark, I realized that Zangief was simply pathetic. In all reality, he only has 3 moves which is extremely sad. It wasn't until I played CvsSNK 1 though that I realized the greatness of SNK grapplers. Compared to Raiden's arsenal of killer wrestling maneuvers, Zangief was nothing but a joke. Raiden's gut punch into a side belly-to-belly suplex was far better than anything I had ever seen the Gief man do before.

SNK grapplers forever!

Yup, unfortunately Capcom doesn't really give a damn about grappler type characters.

I prefer Zangief to Raiden anyday. But you're right, Spinmaster, Capcom hasn't been doing anything with grapplers at all lately...maybe except for Haggar in this upcoming 3-D game...but he's old news...

I personally think Shermie's more intersting than Clark, but Clark is more...um...what's the word...flamboyant? I dunno..."better moves than Shermie" type-word...I hate to use "better" for some reason...

btw, spinmaster, for your sig, why don't you get that gif of Mukuro from LB2 pointing and laughing from Gamegen? He's a good one. :D

I made a topic at Gamefaqs about Capcom and Grapplers called "Capcom and SNK: A grappler question" and it turned into a damn good topic with capcom fans and SNK fans participating with not one flame at all! It was excellent and we came to the conclusion that capcom just doesn't seem to care about grappler type characters seeing as they have so few grapplers and the few they do are usually similar to each other with less diversity and mid tier and take a bit more skill to use. Damn i wish it was still up cuz i'd post a link.

Oh i don't think i could put up another sprite in my sig cuz people with dial-up may complain it is too big then that damn Judge Dredd would moderate my sig and i don't wanna jeopardize it cuz i don't mean to toot my own horn but my sig is one of the coolest here, hehehe. Thanks for the heads up about that sprite though! If i make an new sig i'll probably use it.

EDIT: oh yea and I prefer 'Gief too even though he only has a couple moves, hehehe. I just can not dislike like him, i mean he is the father of all grapplers and grapplers are my favorite characters.

Yeah, seriously, basically Zangief, T. Hawk, haggar and Darun and Hugo (hardly) are pretty much Capcom's main grapplers...R. Mika's a pathetic excuse for a wrestler IMHO...

Yeah, and with your sig...Billy doesn't look like he's laughing...but that's just me...do what you want, it's your sig, anyway...

People used to make fun of me for using Zangief when SFII came out, I was the only person down at my arcade to use him. They all said he was useless, slow, and no fun.

Then I always finished my win with a Spinning Piledriver just to show them off :D

Can't forget Alex! Alex is my favorite capcom grappler! Out of all Capcom grapplers i'd say Alex was a good job on their part cuz he can be used like a grappler and like a regular striker char cuz of his diverse arsenal. Alex is almost good enough to hold up against SNK's good grapplers. And you are right, R.Mika is a joke. She is a grappler with like almost zero priority in her grabs which makes absolutely no sense at all. If she had say Clark's priority then R.Mika would be a monster!!! Too bad Capcom doesn't care much for grapplers.

Ironically alot of people say Billy Kane is what makes them laugh about my sig.

Yep. R. Mika was the (or at least one of the) biggest mistake of Capcom. Really a dumb creation...

As for Billy, yeah, I can see that, actually...

I forgot about Alex! He was pretty decent...I haven't played SF3 in a while now since I got a bit disgusted with capcom...

One thing about Clark that bugs me however. He doesn't have the ability to break a move like Blue Mary or Goro does (ie turning a kick from the opponent into a leg lock). That's his only flaw in my book. I also like the story SNK wrote about his character, like the fact that he wears shade because he doesn't want to see the sun no more.

Clark is like the Ryu of grapplers. He has the personality of a tree yet he is so well liked by many, also even though his attire looks basic he is still cool as ever! Damn those shades and that glove are just badass.

Clark is a character that you must get used to. You'll get beat up a bunch of times at first but practice makes better. One day, you'll be unbeatable :)

yes this is true. I remember the first time i tried clark i could hardly remember his commands for throws and i'd always get whooped up by my brother and friends(even by my scrubby friends) then gradually by listening to other people around here and looking at various FAQ's on grapplers i learned how to play grapplers and it came to the point where some of my friends refused to play me if i used Clark.

Bah! You all know nothing! EIJI IS THE BEST GRAPPLER!!....... Well... if he WAS a grappler he'd be the best, and you all know it!

Stupid freggin Eolith and Gaymore... no Eiji or Geese..... Good thing my two slot has AOF2 and RealBout in it.......

Edit : And oh yeah, about Capcom. They don't really care about grapplers because they only have 2 big fighting games. They have the SF series (fireballs are king) and the VS series. Playing their other (better) fighters like Darkstalkers is a much better game to compare. Every character has at least one grappling move in that game, and Anakaris is a really interesting and unique grappler. SNK on the other hand always has different things going on. Their games are more balanced, therefore the fans need constant improvements and all kinds of new things to stay interested. Take KOF for example, the hero team ALWAYS has a grappler in it. And even Goro, who was in 5 consecutive KOF games, always played differently in each one. You can't expect A fireball based company to compare to a variety of creative characters. Half of Kyos moves are defensive, none of Ryus even come close.... hadoken hadoken shoryuken will always equal a win :\

well its about personal preferences,really

my friends use goro and they like him a lot,
its good fun for em

me,personally,i dont like him

same can be said for clark

i prefer shermie or vice

both excellent grapplers :)

goro is still the strongest fighter in kof 98

no doubt about that

I would agree with Spin, as I usually tend to do. Clark's the best grappling character I've ever seen. Goro's good... don't get me wrong. Hell, some have seen my Goro and know I'm good with him, but Clark is just insane. And to think they're giving him ANOTHER move that's supposed to be very good? What in the holy hell are they thinking? I mean, I say bring it on, but is it really fair for the other chars? There I go, thinking video game characters have feelings again.

Clark = pimp.

Vice rocks O_O! I cant believe I forgot about her. Goro has way more counters than Clark has, he's kind of a Clark and Kasumi combined, not to mention you can link his throws from his counters, then his DM from the throws..... AND HE HAS A LITTLE KID... WHO ROLLS!! O_O

A x B = AB

Ralf + Clark = AB > jo0

Clark is a trained fighter and deadly and all, but Shermie is both a good grappler and versatile, because I think she wasn't really meant as a grappling chara.

This broad range of possibilites is what I miss when I play with Clark, or with Goro, while he is more powerful.
