Metal Slug Insert!! Made by ME!!!

no crap, hehe. i know, im gonna put screen shots and some words an stuff on the back. but im stuck on the front. i dont know what i should put there besides an snk logo and the meg count <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

Well, here are some suggestions.
First, you may want to flip the "Metal Slug" on the spine. Generally, the titles read top to bottom. That would also mean that you would want tank pointing down as well.
While the landscape of the first level is a really cool idea, I think you may find it very limiting when trying to map additional images onto it. Of course, you would want the Metal Slug title on the cover somewhere, but as far as additional art, you wouldn't be incorporating said art into the background, so again it is a limitation instead of a help. Like I said, it's a cool idea, I think you just may have painted yourself into a corner.
The back is a great start. I would start by adding four screen shots and then either some descriptive game text (maybe something about Morden) or maybe get some "SNK Major Meg game" stuff in there just to get started and get a feel for the layout.

YESS!! I finally came up with a front!! Heres my progress so far:

That camo-ing was a pain! hehe. I am pretty much all set for the back now, all i have to do is ake screen shots, but i cant on this pc because they come out all funky, damn voodoo.
also, i would like to say that making this is definately a pain in the ass, especially since i have a p233 and i hangs up every 5 secs. but it is extremely fun and rewarding.
i will try to finish the back tonite, until then, tell me what you think <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
also, im stupid and i forgot to change the meg count.
I have to give props to ryogeo for his Real Bout insert, because i used many pieces from it (the meg count, neo logo etc.) and that it is also one damn fine insert to boot!

I love the spine and back of your insert, however I would change the front. You have what could beome one of the best inserts. Keep working at it! <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Ohhhh SH*T!! Another COOL INSERT!! Hey Sonic..just getting a chance to view it!!! Hey, I can't make out the back portion it's coming out all black!! The SPINE is perfect..I love the front so far but it's missing something...maybe you shooting down an enemy or something not sure but the design is weird on the front and I like UNIQUE things!! You're getting it though..take your time because I never really like the Metal Slug 1 front cover from the official artwork. I LOVE the MS2 official artwork but hated the game <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

hey, thanks for the kind word BB. o and by the way, i got the mvs cases, theyre great! thats why i'm doing this in the first place.
i am thinking about reworking the front, with the official logo and then some dramatic scene made with sprite rips or something...i dunno.
also, on the back right now its the metal slug 'green prints' that come up during the game when the hi scores scroll. im going to put together some screen shots and stuff on the back and like some words and stuff, or something <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

hey, its more than likely your end...but you never know with @home...i dunno, try again later or keep trying or right click and save target as. that should work.
oh, and why is the PDS of my insert only 2.10MB?!? i just read that ryogeo's is over 90MB!! whats up with that?!?

I think the One Damn Fine Game is really funny. i don't know whether you're going for a professional look or anything, but if you are, you might want to take that out and choose a more "pleasant" title shot. Otherwise, it's perfect.

yea, i knew someone was going to say that. i thought it was funny, and that it fit really well even if it does detract from the overall 'professional look'. oh well...i could always make it say " lets blast away and go go go" the only other tag line from the game.

Looks cool, just some advice from a student of design in colledge. Your insert is a bit cluttered with to much text, and on the back for example you should make the text smaller, remember less is more <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Sonic, that is a VERY fun and cool insert! You obviously had a good time doing it. I really like the whole look of it.
About you questions, the PDS of my Real Bout is about 12MEG ( I thinkn I erroneously said it was 34MEG earlier, but that is the BMP file). When changed to an EPS, it is 98.8MEG. Don't know why it is so big, but it is.
One thing that may keep the MEG count down on yours would be the resolution. I do my inserts at 300dpi. Makes for VERY clean images that way. Lowering the dpi will make the file size fall DRAMATICALLY. Is that it?

yup, that was it...my resolution. it was only 72dpi! I upped it to 300, but i'm glad i didnt do that from the begining...its too hard to work with, not only is it huge!! but it is also huge in size (27 megs) so its REALLY slow on my p2 350. i think its time for a new pc...

Just a piece of advice.
When you start with 72ppi, & up it to 300ppi.
Its just a very large 72ppi file.
You do not gain resolution quality at all.
You need to start at a 300 source & stay there.

Sonic man, this is some top quality shit you just did.Keep up this good work.I think this is better than the origional art work, only thing I would say is, perhaps the selection of screen shots could be improved to seomething a little more spectacular, that really makes you weant to grab the box and say ~~~############ <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Your insert has evolved more every time I look at it, Sonic. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> I have a possible idea. Instead of using the standard colouring on letters for the words "METAL SLUG," I might experiment and see how they would look if you overlayed your camouflage pattern onto them, in place of the reddish-orange. There is nothing wrong with it the way it is, but it might make an interesting change.
