I listen to a ton of music with synthesizers in, but its mainly late 70's - 80's electro - rock, the likes of Ultravox, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode.......

and more modernly "The Faint"(sp?) look like a nice electro group that could be worth a look.
hey I'm into synth-pop and industrial almost exclusively! Just to let you know The Faint are from Omaha, NE. and have been around for quite a few years. My younger sister has known them since she was like 12 or something.

I find the new Morgan Geist single "Most of All" to be the best synthpop release in several years. Yeah, it even surpasses Goldfrapp.

Also, the new Pet Shop Boys album comes out next week. Looking forward to it.

Have you heard the I'm With Stupid single from it? It's easily the worst PSB single I've heard in years. As a long time PSB fan, I'm hoping the full album will be a lot better.

I'm into some of the new wave stuff, euro techno, industrial. Synth music is making a comeback with newer bands like the Killers. Doesn't even Motion City Soundtrack use a Moog? The local progressive/modern rock station 105 plays lots of bands with synths.

Front Line Assembly has a new one coming out next month.

why is this topic here?

Because it is unrelated to neo geo.

Synth music has been around for decades. I don't get how a general, genre-spanning topic such as this would be considered "oh that is so 2003"

Some recommended listening:

  • Cryonica Tanz Vol 5.
  • Technoir: Deliberately Fragile.
  • Deviant UK: Defiance (Numan clone).
  • Any of the Electrisch compilations.

Still listening to it..
Has anybody heard of Glitch music? It takes sounds like HDD crashing, static, and computers breaking down and integrates it into music.

Chip music is getting to be more common - Beck used it in his new album...

Chiptunes are great. Philly has a really strong chiptune scene and there are concerts every month at 8Static

www.8static.com

Cheap Dinosaurs is my favorite chip act (chiptune+synth+live guitar and live drums)
Their song "Stroll" is one of my favorite songs of all-time

any of John Carpenters 70's/80's themes. Assault on Precinct 13, The Thing, They Live, Halloween, Starman, Escape from New York.

The 65days of static version of Assault on Precinct 13 (called Assault on Precinct 65) is really good too.

Also, i would like this opportunity to say i definetely do not listen to children of bodom and van halen anymore. I was 18 then now i'm 24. For shame. :mr_t:

(tho to be fair, dreams from van halen is a synth masterpiece)
