TNA Impact! Results: 2-7-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (link to Caldwell's full report). Condensed to in-ring results only.

1 -- Knockouts champion AWESOME KONG (w/Raisha Saeed) vs. TRACI BROOKS

The bell sounded, then ODB showed up on the low-def Impactron and cut a promo on Kong, which fired her up. Traci then walked into a hard chop to the chest, but avoided a corner splash in the corner. Traci fired up with a big boot to the side of the head, but Kong didn't go down. Traci then went up top, but Kong flung her down to the mat. She nailed the back hand on Brooks before giving her a double underhook facebuster. (West called it an implant buster, apparently a reference to Gail Kim.) Kong then finished off Brooks with the Awesome Bomb for the win. After the match, Peyton Banks ran into the ring and jumped Brooks until security broke things up.

WINNER: Kong in 3:00. Fine action to build up Kong ahead of the PPV. (*)

2 -- BLACK REIGN DUSTIN RHODES vs. KAZ -- Rat on a pole match

The deal is that there is a box in four of the six corners of the ring, but three boxes have mousetraps and one box has Misty. Reign found a mousetrap in one corner before they cut to a break.

Kaz got a mousetrap after the break. Reign then bit into Kaz's forehead before delivering a Pedigree sans the double underhook. Reign went for his trademark uppercut from his knees, but Kaz had it scouted and nailed a spin kick. Reign then kicked Kaz off the top rope and found the third mousetrap. So, now everyone knows the final box has Misty. Kaz kicked Reign in the ring, then climbed the final corner and grabbed Misty from inside the box.

After the match, Reign grabbed the Darkness Falls weapon and spiked Kaz in the face with the weapon. Reign then grabbed the rat box as Kaz was KO'ed.

WINNER: Kaz in 9:00. So, what was the point of the match if Reign walked away with the rat? The match wasn't half-bad, but it didn't matter based on the post-match ending. (*1/2)

3 -- X Division champion JOHNNY DEVINE vs. HOMICIDE (w/Salinas) -- X Division Title match

Good energy early in this one, as Homicide knocked Devine to the outside and nailed a cannonball suicide dive that brushed Devine. Homicide then got some props from West and played to the crowd. Back in the ring, Homicide continued to dominate. He then went up top and missed a splash in center ring.

Devine went on the offensive with repeated boot thrusts to the chest. He nailed a modified Elijah Express in the corner for a nearfall. Homicide then fought back with right hand blows before walking into a fallaway gutbuster across Devine's knees. Devine went for a butterfly suplex, but Homicide blocked and nailed a t-bone suplex. Homicide made his full comeback before hitting a swinging neckbreaker for a nearfall. He then went for the Cop Killah, but Devine rolled him up and nearly scored a pin with his feet on the ropes. Homicide then came back with the Ace Crusher and nailed the Cop Killer. He had the pin for about a five count, but Slick Johnson stopped his count and called for a DQ when he saw Brother Devon about 20 feet away.

After the bell, Devon and Ray made a quick attack before Hernandez made the save and dropped Devine with the Border Toss. Tenay interjected that Devine retains the title because they changed the rules last week. Did I miss something or are they making it up as they go?

WINNER: Homicide via DQ in 6:00. Really good TV singles match until the lame finish of the ref stopping his count with Devon making a mild threat from 20 feet away that he would interfere. Homicide and Devine showed good chemistry. Definitely one of the more enjoyable matches on Impact the past few weeks. (**1/4)

4 -- CURRY MAN & SHARK BOY vs. LANCE HOYT & JIMMY RAVE (w/Christy Hemme)

Curry and Shark worked over Rave early in the match. Hoyt took a tag and ran over Curry Man before doing a headbanging dance move. The action broke down and Curry ate a big boot from Hoyt. Hoyt then strummed the air guitar before picking up Curry and strumming Curry's backside like a guitar. Sharkie eventually got the hot tag and started working on Rave until Hoyt cut him off from the apron. Sharkie nailed dual Stunners, then Curry gave Rave the Spicy Rack in center ring. He told Shark to make the cover, which he did for the win.

WINNERS: Curry Man & Shark Boy beat in 5:00. I would say Hoyt & Rave could use a win to build credibility, but their gimmick is supposed to be a joke and no one will even remember them having a match seven days from now. (*)

5 -- A.J. STYLES vs. TIGER MASK

Tenay and West talked up the B.G. & Bob tag title opportunity at the PPV. West said the Color Guard will be present to present the U.S. colors and support Bullet Bob. Nice plug. As for the match, Styles bailed to the outside two minutes into the match. He then pulled Tiger to the floor and rammed him into the ring apron. Styles then landed a leaping clothesline from the guardrail before taking him back into the ring. Styles teased taking off Tiger's mask, but Tiger bit down on Styles's fingers and landed successive kicks followed by a standing moonsault. Styles bailed to the outside and Tiger nailed a suicide dive on the floor. Back in the ring, Tiger hit a butterfly suplex for a nearfall. He then walked into a back elbow smash and Styles caught him with the springboard reverse DDT from Styles for a nearfall. Great spot. Suddenly, there was a collision with the referee in the corner. Styles then mule kicked Tiger and nailed the Styles Clash for the win. Styles was all cocky as he screamed at the camera during the pin.

WINNER: Styles in 5:00. Pretty good TV match. Styles showed good fire that has been missing during the silly comedy heel program with the Angles. (**)

6 -- CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. JUDAS MESIAS (w/James Mitchell)

They battled to the outside early in the match. Back in the ring, Christian teased an Unprettier attempt, but Judas flung him away. Judas then press slammed Christian over the top rope to the floor. Thud. Cut to a break.

Back from break, Judas kicked Christian in the face, then Christian fought to his feet and landed right hand blows. Christian then ducked a series of clotheslines, but Judas nailed a powerslam for a nearfall. Tenay really built up the BWM II match while Judas worked over Christian against the ropes. Christian came back at 10:00 with chops and an elbow smash out of the corner. He then came off the top with a forearm blow for a nearfall. Judas missed with a shoulder tackle, then Christian nailed an inverted DDT for a nearfall. Christian went up top, but Mitchell distracted him and Judas took advantage. Abyss then strolled out to the ring with his arm wrapped up in barbed wire. He then chased Mitchell from ringside. Back in the ring, Christian caught a distracted Judas with the Unprettier for the win.

WINNER: Christian Cage in 12:00. Good TV main event. Judas showed the ability to work a good TV match beyond a one-minute squash. Christian had a good warm-up match for the PPV, allowing the announcers to give the final sell for the PPV. (**1/2)

Post-match: Abyss returned to the ring and approached Judas in the ring. He then smashed Judas with a barbed wire fist, but Judas was energized and ran away from the ring. Suddenly, A.J. Styles flew to the ring and beat the crap out of Christian. He went for the Clash on Christian, but Christian was playing opossum. He dropped Styles on his back and slapped on the Sharpshooter. Suddenly, Kurt Angle stormed the ring while still selling Joe's slam through the table. He beat up Christian with fist blows before Styles picked up Christian for a belt shot. Tomko stormed the ring to make the save for Christian, though. Angle and Styles bailed from ringside and walked up the entrance ramp. Tomko lifted Christian up in the corner, then they shook hands. Angle and Styles continued to stand tall on the ramp to close the show.

WWE Smackdown Results: 2-8-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Park's complete report). Condensed to in-ring results only.

1- SHELTON BENJAMIN vs. KANE

Kane worked over Shelton in the corner and hit a seated dropkick. After a cross-body off the top by Shelton, Kane hit a big boot. Shelton drop-toed Kane into the turnbuckle. Blockbuster off the top for a one-count. DDT by Shelton for a near-fall. After catching Kane with a back elbow, Shelton got caught coming off the second rope and was hit with a thrust to the throat. Kane hit his flying clothesline but Shelton rolled to the outside. Kane went after him and they fought to the apron when Shelton was knocked off the top rope and into the ring by Kane. At that point, the referee was at nine with his count and Shelton got in just before the ten; Kane was not so lucky.

WINNER: Benjamin by count-out at 6:03. Unique ending. Kane is really getting clunky in the ring.

2- CHUCK PALUMBO vs. JAMIE NOBLE

Noble came out then waved for Michelle McCool to come out with him. After a quick back-and-forth, Chuck hit a big boot. Palumbo then socked Jamie in the head a bunch of times. Palumbo missed an elbow off the 2nd rope. Palumbo missed a charge and rammed his shoulder into the post. Noble cross-bodied Chuck over the top rope. Noble went to the top, but Chuck re-directed Jamie into his bike. Full Throttle back in the ring for the three.

WINNER: Palumbo at 3:56.

3- JESSE & FESTUS vs. DEUCE ‘N DOMINO

Festus came to the ring with a paper bag over his head. The “new and improved” Festus had the same facials as the old Festus and transformed as usual once the bell rang. Jesse got the best of Deuce early on. Domino broke up a pin attempt, giving Deuce the time he needed to recover. Domino applied a chinlock to Jesse, who fought out. The tag was finally made to Festus, who cleaned house. A couple of splashes on Domino from Festus. After an attempted distraction by Cherry, Festus hit his finisher on Domino for the win.

WINNERS: Jesse & Festus at 4:04. Not sure what the point of the “new” Festus angle was.

-Edge came out to host his talk show. He showed Vickie getting the 619 at the Royal Rumble and said that’s an example of the power of love. He wanted all of the fans to give Vickie the respect she deserves. He introduced Vickie as his soul mate. Teddy Long wheeled her down to the ring. Edge sent Teddy to the back for privacy reasons. In an arena full of thousands of fans. On TV in front of millions. Edge had a big question to ask Vickie. It was to be a Valentine surprise for her next week. Edge said Rey owed her an apology, then he called him out. Mysterio came out, looking quite dapper. Vickie demanded an apology from him. Before he could say three words, Vickie slapped him. When he tried to explain, she slapped him again. She said he disgusted her. He blocked a third slap and Edge attacked him. Rey made a comeback, but then Edge flattened him with a foot to the face. Edge retrieved two chairs from ringside, but it gave Rey time to get his bearings and he ended up hitting a 619. Rey then got a mic and said “I’m sorry” to Vickie.

4- CURT HAWKINS & ZACK RYDER vs. SHANNON MOORE & JIMMY WANG YANG

Arm-drag and a “yee-hah!” from Yang. Yang hit another arm-drag, to which Cole chimed in, “Yang with a highly unorthodox style.” Yeah, nothing more unorthodox than a couple of arm-drags. Double-team by the Edgeheads for the advantage. After working over Yang, both legal men made tags. After a distraction by Ryder, Hawkins hit the Curtain Call-like finisher on Moore for the three-count (get it?).

WINNERS: Hawkins & Ryder at 3:32.

5- GREAT KHALI, BIG DADDY V & MVP vs. BATISTA, FINLAY & UNDERTAKER

Match was joined in progress with Finlay and Khali. Short clothesline on MVP after he tagged in. Taker & Batista worked over V, including some headbutts that consisted of Taker hitting V with his hair. Taker hit Old School on V, then MVP. Khali tagged in going into break.

Taker fought it out with MVP and eventually all three men worked over the heel. After Finlay got knocked to ringside and the heels got some cheap-shots in, Taker got upset and grabbed a chair. He never used it though. Finlay took an extended beating and eventually it broke down with everyone coming in and hitting their signature spots. That included Finlay using the shillaleigh, and somewhere in here, the ref threw the match out.

WINNERS: No Contest at 14:31.

The faces stood in the ring, but leery of each other, as the show ended.

Final Thoughts: A good show, but they’re getting a lot of mileage right now out of two angles that are carrying the show. The Rey vs. Edge feud and the Noble vs. Palumbo feud are the only two to speak of, really. Luckily, they are both coming along nicely, though it makes the other matches on the show feel just thrown together. They’re trying hard to make it seem like all the players in the Chamber match have a shot and they need to considering only one or two can seriously be considered.

thus marks the end of the CW

Here's some more info about Smackdown leaving the CW:

The CW insiders said the network was not exactly excited about renewing, since the Smackdown adult 18-34 rating this season had decreased to a 1.4, which made it only the seventh highest-rated show on the network in prime time.

Another issue that led to the CW's decision to drop Smackdown was that the show was entirely young-male oriented and the network was not able to use it's Friday night telecast to promote its female-skewing Sunday programming.

"There was absolutely no audience flow to any of our other shows," a CW insider said. "No one who watched Smackdown watched any of our other shows on any other night."

Any chance Festus is the son of Iron Mike Sharp? Facial features, body type and wrestling style all appear to be the same. Also ,what's up with the eyeliner on Duece and Domino? Why are they in the dog house? I know it's always personal ,never business with the WWE.

Festus' real name is Drew Hankinson. He started in the independent wrestling leagues and made his WWE debut as the 'Imposter' Kane in May 2006, donning the original Kane costume as Kane foughthis 'inner evil'

As far as Duece and Domino...don't know if they're in the dogs with Vinnie Mac. They did their run on the titles, lost them and now are sitting in the background. Kind of common with the tag teams. Also Duece's real name is Jimmy Reiher, Jr. and is the adopted son of Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka. Domino was injured awhile back and by the time he returned, they ended up losing the titles. Don't know if the injury was part of the reason or if the WWE decided to push another team. Probably a little of both.

I don't have cable so that's the end of Wrestling for me :oh_no: :oh_no:

On a bright note, I got the first two volumes of Royal Rumble Anthology and these things are great. Awesome memories, and it makes me wish Jesse Ventura was still the announcer, good god he was hilarious.

TNA Against All Odds PPV Results: 2-10-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's real-time report).

1 -- TNA tag champions A.J. STYLES & TOMKO vs. B.G. JAMES & BULLET BOB ARMSTRONG -- TNA Tag Title match

11 minutes into the PPV, we got an opening bell to start the wrestling. Tenay quickly introduced Kip James into the equation by talking about Kip giving his full support to the Armstrong team. Styles played the cocky heel early on, so Bob slapped him across the face and Styles did a Flair-style flat-back flop. Tomko took a tag and accepted slaps from Bob for good measure. They cut to a split-screen in the Angle locker room where Kurt and Karen were having an argument because Kurt was trying to watch the match on the monitor. Here's the problem with this. Tomko was being groomed on TV as a huge star, and he's having to sell for 67-year-old Bullet Bob. The match broke down at 7:00, then Styles accidentally bumped Tomko to the outside. B.G. then dropped Styles with a pumphandle slam for a nearfall. Suddenly, Styles smashed B.G. in the left knee with a springboard dropkick. B.G. sold it like his knee was shot. Tomko and Styles then gave him a double-team suplex for the win to retain the belts. After the match, Kip James stormed the ring and checked on B.G. with Bob and some referees. B.G. sat up and started crying while the fans gave him a round of applause. Tenay talked about the feel-good-ending being lost.

WINNERS: Tomko & Styles in 8:00. Looks like a heel crowd tonight, at least for the opener, as there was more of a babyface reaction for Styles and Tomko until the post-match. Decent opener, but all-storyline. (*1/4)

2 -- TRACI BROOKS vs. PEYTON BANKS

We're almost a half-hour into the show with the second match just beginning. Traci went right after Peyton and beat her into the corner before Peyton landed an eye rake. They brawled to the outside and Traci tackled Peyton on the floor. Traci then whipped Peyton into the guardrail, but Peyton reversed a whip into the steel steps and Traci ate steel. Back in the ring, Peyton worked over Traci. After a few light kicks to the back, Peyton landed the backstabber for a nearfall. Peyton, frustrated, started choking Traci in the ropes, but Traci came back with a boot to the head. She then landed a running clothesline for a one count. Traci went up top, but Peyton cut her off and landed shoulder thrusts in the corner. Suddenly, Traci avoided the move and quickly rolled up Peyton from behind for the win. After the match, Peyton jumped Traci from behind. Traci fought her off, though, and rolled Peyton to the outside.

WINNER: Traci Brooks in 5:00. A fine women's match with good heat. I realize it's a "personal feud", but why have a brawl on the outside in the second match of the card - a filler match - when there is a barbed wire match, a street fight, and another "personal feud" match later in the show? (*1/2)

TNA Against All Odds PPV Results: 2-10-08

3 -- PETEY WILLIAMS vs. SCOTT STEINER -- #1 Contender to X Division and World Hvt. Title

Steiner dominated Petey to start things off. Petey rolled to the outside, then slipped back into the ring and did some stomach crunches that pissed off Steiner. I'm officially sold on the greatness of Petey's gimmick now. Steiner isn't, though, as he smashed Petey with a clothesline. Petey then avoided the classic wind-up elbow drop and did some push-ups. Steiner, irritated, landed a belly-to-belly suplex before hanging Petey upside down in the corner. And then another b2b suplex. He even did a casual pin and yanked Petey up by his hair to stop the ref's count. Steiner then took Petey up top and did the slowest fallaway slam of all time. He again pulled up on a pin attempt to inflict more damage. Steiner then grabbed both of the briefcases and placed one briefcase in each corner of the ring. Ref Slick Johnson blocked a case shot, which drew boos. Petey then rammed Steiner head-first into one of the cases. No DQ? Are there even rules in TNA? Who knows. Petey made a cover for a nearfall. He then went for the Canadian Destroyer, but Steiner blocked and nailed the Alabama Slam for a nearfall. Steiner said it's the end, so he went for the Steiner Recliner, but Petey countered with a small package for a nearfall.

Petey came up bleeding at 7:00, then he slapped on the Steiner Recliner, but Steiner easily powered to his feet and rammed Petey back-first into the corner turnbuckles. Petey then blocked snake eyes and landed a tornado DDT for another close nearfall. Suddenly, Steiner landed a low blow with the ref looking right at it. Slick just played dumb, like all of the TNA refs. Petey then caught Steiner with a mule kick of his own, with Slick just looking around the ring like he was looking for someone in the crowd. Petey then called for the Destroyer, but a random woman ran to the ring and ripped off her jacket on the apron. She's a rather large woman. She distracted Petey with some poses, then Steiner caught Petey with a powerbomb for the win. The woman and Steiner then posed afterward.

WINNER: Steiner in 10:00. Good first-hour PPV match, but with the usual overbooking to distract from a match that was close to three stars. I don't even know why TNA has referees. They're booked to be completely useless. Apparently TNA needs more women on the roster because they don't have enough people on the roster already. (**1/2)

TNA Against All Odds PPV Results: 2-10-08

4 -- Drinking champion ERIC YOUNG vs. JAMES STORM (w/Ms. Jackie Moore)

Young knocked Storm to the outside within the first minute and hit a leaping cross body block on the floor. This turned into comedy where Jackie led Young on a cat and mouse chase around the ring, then back into the ring. Storm took advantage with a kick to the head on Young. On the floor again, Storm removed the padding ringside to expose the concrete. Storm then hip-tossed Young onto the concrete. Back in the ring, Storm covered Young for a nearfall. Back on the outside, Young countered a suplex and Storm ate the concrete back-first. Suddenly, and very randomly exactly one hour into the PPV, Tenay threw out an explanation about Barbed Wire Massacre airing from Orlando because they couldn't have the match in South Carolina. Cornette is standing by in Orlando to intro the match. It came across like, oh, by the way, one of the advertised main events isn't airing from the venue tonight, but don't blame us!

In any event, they did some nearfalls in the ring at 6:00. Jackie got involved again and Young did a double DVD from the fireman's carry position. He then covered Storm for another close nearfall. Good heat for this. A few seconds after taking a DVD, Storm quickly nailed a sunset flip powerbomb from the top rope for a nearfall. Jackie then tossed a beer bottle to Storm and distracted the ref. Suddenly, Rhino was in the ring and he Gored Storm out of his boots. Rhino then bailed from the ring and Young covered Storm for the win.

WINNER: Young in 7:00. Crowd loved the finish for Rhino returning. The match wasn't anything memorable, as it was the usual silly match booking. (*1/2)

Post-match: Rhino took the mic in center ring and stared into the hard camera. He said he has a lot to say, but he'll wait until Thursday night to say it. OK, thanks for showing up.

5 -- Knockouts champion AWESOME KONG (w/Raisha Saaed) vs. ODB -- Women's Title match

The match started with ODB trying to scoop slam Kong, but Kong kept flinging her away and nailing hard clotheslines and splashes. ODB escaped the Awesome Bomb two times, and ducked the spinning back hand slap. Kong wouldn't leave her feet following several dropkicks. Suddenly, Kong got caught up top and ODB finally took Kong off her feet with a powerslam from the top rope. ODB then covered Kong for a close, believable nearfall. ODB powered up with a drink from her flask, but she couldn't take Kong off her feet. Saeed then got on the apron and ODB smashed her off the apron. ODB turned around and took spinning back fist blows before Kong finished her off with the Awesome Bomb for the win.

WINNER: Kong in 8:00 to retain the Knockout Title. Good match. ODB played a good 2008 babyface to get the crowd behind her. Nice story of ODB trying to get Kong off her feet, with the one success of a top rope powerslam that only led to a nearfall. Best match so far. (**3/4)

6 -- ABYSS vs. JUDAS MESIAS (w/James Mitchell) -- Barbed Wire Massacre II from Impact Zone in Orlando

The bell sounded and the participants slowly paced around the ring. They teased some early barbed wire spots, then Judas dropkicked Abyss arm-first into the barbed wire. Abyss caught Judas near the wire and dropped him chest-first across the wire. Abyss then took a drop toehold into the bottom of the wires. They couldn't keep this exclusively in the ring, as Abyss slid under the wire to the floor and grabbed a barbed wire steel chair. Judas blocked a splash and crotched Abyss with the wire chair. Abyss then took a few chair shots to the head. Abyss came up bleeding from the forehead. Judas went to the outside and retrieved a barbed wire board. Abyss then bailed to the outside, but Judas followed out and bit into Abyss's forehead to draw more blood. Abyss reversed a whip into the ring steps, though, and Judas ate the steel.

At 8:00, Abyss grabbed a second barbed wire board and placed it between the guardrail and ring apron. Mitchell suddenly hit Abyss from behind, then Abyss teased a chokeslam into the wire board, but Judas smashed Abyss from behind to save his father. Back in the ring, Judas took a loose piece of barbed wire and raked Abyss's arm with the wire. Suddenly, Abyss dropped Judas stomach-first across one of the barbed wire boards. It just wouldn't be a TNA PPV without an overplayed "That was awesome" chant from the Impact Zone. The fight then moved to the outside where Abyss chokeslammed Judas through the other barbed wire board on the outside. Mitchell then scampered into the ring and Abyss dropped him with the Black Hole Slam. Mitchell rolled to the outside, then Judas ran into the ring after a super no-sell recovery and walked into a Black Hole Slam. Abyss made a cover for a nearfall.

At 13:00, Judas fired up with forearm blows. They almost did a ref bump with Earl Hebner, then the distraction allowed Judas to shove Abyss through a third barbed wire board, this one in the corner. Judas then landed more forearm blows before running into the Black Hole Slam in the first board. Abyss made the cover for the win to hopefully end this program. Afterward, Tenay tried to throw Abyss's name into the mix with Funk, Cactus Jack, and Brody. Goodness gracious.

WINNER: Abyss in 15:00. Well, it should be over after this, so that has to count for something. TNA presents: Abyss gimmick match that you can take or leave, just like any other month. I strongly dislike these matches, but that's just me. (*)

7 -- BOOKER T vs. ROBERT ROODE (w/Peyton Banks)

As soon as Booker hit the ring, they started the fight with a wrestling match that doesn't matter. Booker quickly threw Roode to the outside and they brawled on the floor. Tenay with the second "full-court press" reference of the show. Ya, this is 180 minutes of hell. It's worth noting that Roode significantly upgraded his in-ring attire to look like a main event player. Suddenly, Peyton Banks wandered into the ring completely randomly and touched Booker on the shoulder. Booker feigned a punch to the face, but Booker stopped short and Roode smashed him from behind. Four straight matches in S.C. with female interference. Roode avoided the bookend, then nailed a dropkick for a nearfall. At 7:00, Booker yanked Roode's leg into the ringpost while Peyton looked on with concern. Suddenly, Roode pulled a Shelton Benjamin and bailed up the entrance ramp with Peyton. Booker gave chase to the backstage area. Wait a second, the ref is making a ten count? I haven't seen a ten count applied by a TNA referee possibly ever in the post-Nashville era. Slick counted to ten and the fans booed. This means practically every TNA PPV match for the past four years, and every match on this PPV, should have ended via count-out.

Post-match: Booker and Roode battled to a getaway car. Roode slammed Booker into a guardrail, then Roode flung Peyton out of the driver's seat of the getaway car and sped off. Booker slammed his fists on the car in anger. He said this isn't over.

WINNER: Booker via countout in 8:00. TNA's application of rules is atrociously lazy. So, they randomly threw out the No DQ rule on title matches without an announcement, now refs are doing count-outs whenever they feel like it. (*)

8 -- TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY & BROTHER DEVON & X Division champion JOHNNY DEVINE) vs. ALEX SHELLEY & CHRIS SABIN & JAY LETHAL -- Street fight with a ton of stips

The brawl was all over ringside to start things off. West apologized for any missed camera shots because there's too much action going on. Lethal then grabbed a "Use my sign" sign and smashed Ray in the forehead with the sign. More weapons entered the contest, with Team 3D taking trashcan shots to the head. Suddenly, there were three simultaneous nearfalls. Oh man, if there were three pins, there would have been eight months of Lethal, Sabin, and Shelley battling for possession of the X Division Title with 1/3 stake to the belt. Plenty of So Cal Val camera shots in this one. Suddenly, a blow-up doll entered the ring and Ray gave it a powerbomb. Lethal then smashed Lethal with a computer keyboard. I think the P and Q went flying into the stands. The fans chanted for tables. After Shelley and Sabin did their combo tag moves, Team 3D gave Sabin the 3D in center ring. Shelley then ate the 3D for good measure. Lethal tried to make the save, but Ray smashed him with an inside-out clothesline. The fans still want tables. Val started crying ringside as Lethal took a beating. Lethal did the Tommy Dreamer and asked for another trashcan blow from Ray. Val then got on the apron to tell Ray to stop, but Ray dragged her into the ring. Fifth straight S.C. match with female involvement. Ray then grabbed a cheese grater and teased grating her, but instead licked her on the forehead.

Lethal made the save for Liz at 10:00, then checked on her. Lethal then came off the top with a huracanrana on Ray. He picked up a chair and smashed Ray in the face with a chair shot. He had the pin, but Devon pulled the ref to the outside. At least he timed his interference tonight. Back in the ring, Lethal was on fire cleaning house on 3D members. Ray then caught him with a full nelson slam for a nearfall. Ringside, Val's mascara was running from the tears. Ray and Devon then set up a table in the ring while the fans popped. Val screamed for them to stop. Lethal avoided the 3D, then Devine missed with a sign shot to the head. Lethal stole the sign and smashed Devine in the head, sending Devine onto the table. Lethal then came off the top with an elbow drop and covered him for the win. Val was overjoyed. Afterward, Val and Lethal celebrated with the X Division Title. Sonjay Dutt then came to the ring and celebrated with them. He then grabbed the X Division Title and presented it to Lethal.

WINNERS: Team Lethal in 13:00; Lethal captures the X Division Title. A fine brawl outside of the usual TNA overbooking and cutesy little inside jokes. Sabin & Shelley disappeared in this one to turn it into the LethalVal show. Probably qualifies for best match of the show thus far. (***)

9 -- TNA Hvt. champion KURT ANGLE (w/Karen Angle) vs. CHRISTIAN CAGE -- TNA World Hvt. Title match -- Samoa Joe special enforcer

The announcers talked about Kurt solving his woman problems before the match so he could focus on the match. West talked about his personal problems with the wifey. Huge heat for this to start with. Angle landed a shoulder block early on and Karen clapped it up for her hubby. She kept screaming encouragements from ringside, reaching that Melina-level. Christian sidestepped Angle at 5:00 and Angle went crashing shoulder-first into the corner ringpost. Christian then came off the top with a leaping splash onto Angle. Let's get that ten count, ref. Nope, no ten count being applied. Back in the ring, Angle yanked Christian hard off the top rope and Christian winced in pain on the mat. Very tight match so far. Joe briefly got involved when Angle wouldn't break a choke on the middle rope, but Angle mouthed off to him.

At 7:00, Joe got on the apron when Angle didn't break a second rope choke. The brief pause gave Christian a chance to recover, but Angle gave him a b2b suplex over the top rope to the floor. Christian recovered on the floor, then Angle followed out. He was looking for a chair. Joe casually walked over and said that isn't happening. Angle then shoved Joe, so Joe shoved him back. The pause gave Christian a chance to smash Angle on the floor with chops. Angle came back with an Olympic Slam into the ringpost, though. Back in the ring, Angle powerbombed Christian into the corner turnbuckle for a nearfall at 10:00. Karen just kept on screaming, then Angle locked in a body scissors on the mat. Angle landed two German suplexes, but Christian blocked a third and landed an overhead release suplex that impressed Joe and got more screams from Karen.

Christian made his comeback at 12:00 with a pancake off the ropes. He then nailed a fallaway seated slam for a close nearfall. Christian pointed to the top and climbed the top turnbuckle, fought off Angle, and nailed a frog splash for a nearfall. Christian then chucked Angle over the top rope to the floor. They battled on the apron, and Christian went for a kick to the face, but Angle grabbed Christian's foot and dragged him into the ring where he slapped on the anklelock. Excellent spot. Christian made it to the bottom rope to force a break, though. Angle then dropped the straps and stalked Christian. They teased a close nearfall for Christian when he countered the anklelock. Angle then dropped Christian with the Olympic Slam and West did his "the match is over, I'm so sad" to set up Christian kicking out just in time. Angle went up top at 16:00 for a moonsault, but Christian rolled out of the way just in time. Christian then went up top, but Angle ran up top and suplexed him to the mat for another nearfall.

At 17:00, Angle picked up Christian and paintbrushed him repeatedly. It woke up Christian, who suddenly dropped him with the Unprettier in center ring. He made the cover, but Angle rolled out a shoulder to avoid a three count. The ref got too close to the action, which means he took a ref bump. Christian then slapped on the anklelock and Joe slid into the ring to enforce. Joe asked him if he wanted to tap out, but Angle crawled to the ropes and grabbed his wife. Christian then yanked Karen and Kurt into center ring. Karen slapped Christian, then Christian teased a punch to the face, but he saw Kurt running into the corner, so he moved and Karen took a corner splash from her hubby. Christian then rolled up Angle for a very close nearfall that Joe was so mad that he had to count as a nearfall. Styles then ran to ringside and Joe beat the crap out of him. He brawled with Styles to the grandstands and to the back.

Suddenly, Angle introduced a steel chair into the match. Angle smashed Christian on the back with the chair, then he waited for Christian to get up. Suddenly, Tomko stormed the ring took the chair from Angle. Tomko teased hitting Angle, but then he went over to Christian and gave him the F5 to turn on Christian. But, is actually a turn if the mancrushes were never decided beforehand? Angle didn't know how to react, so he instinctively grabbed the referee and brought him back to the action. Angle covered Christian and scored the pin for the win. The announcers couldn't figure out why Tomko would help Angle. Ringside, Karen woke up and wet her lips while Kurt celebrated in center ring. Tenay said he never saw that finish coming.

WINNER: Angle in 21:00 to retain the TNA Hvt. Title. Really strong main event, with the usual TNA overbooking, run-ins, storyline stuff, etc. At least the excess involvement was expected in this one, so it didn't hurt the match too much. They were heavy on nearfalls in this one, which became repetitive at times, but they did have some really strong, believable nearfalls sprinkled in. Easily top match on the show in the four-star-plus range. I'll reserve judgment on Tomko's "turn" until TV when they tie themselves into knots trying to explain it. (****1/4)

Jake Roberts thanks Vince McMahon with saving his life (reported by Jason Powell)

WWE legend Jake Roberts credited Vince McMahon with saving his life because WWE is paying for his stay in a rehabilitation facility. “Vince McMahon and the WWE saved my life, plain and simple,” Roberts wrote in a message posted Myspace Blog. on Monday. “Do I like it? The fact is, I don't. But I am damned sure grateful. NO I don't like having slid to where I was at, feeling like I did. NO, oh no, but the truth is I was a dead man walking. Still breathing, heart still beating, but my soul was dead and gone. So thank all of you, my friends, my family, my fans, especially Vince McMahon. Thank you for tossing me that life preserver. Yes Vince you threw me a life preserver, and I grabbed hold of it.”

Powell’s POV: WWE is also paying for Scott Hall and Ron Simmons’ stays in the same rehab facility as Roberts. The bill for the time Sean Waltman is spending in a Houston facility is also being picked up by the company. In fact, I was told that WWE paid for Kevin Nash to travel to and from Mexico to pick up Waltman and escort him to the facility.

WWE RAW Results: 2-11-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's report [taped last week] complete report). Condensed to in-ring results only.

1 -- VINCE MCMAHON vs. HORNSWOGGLE -- No DQ match

They had a brief lock-up and Vince shoved Hornswoggle down. Vince then posed before getting down on one knee to give Hornswoggle the first shot. Hornswoggle wouldn't sucker punch pops, so Vince gave him a little shove. Vince then smiled and Hornswoggle gave him a quick slap across the face. Vince got mad, so he ripped off his belt. The fans groaned since Vince had pulled his pants down twice earlier in the taping. Suddenly, Finlay stormed the ring and Vince went to the outside. Vince returned with a mic and said Finlay must think he's a real tough guy or something. He screamed this is punishment for Hornswoggle, so how dare Finlay interrupt. He then reminded Finlay that he's about to throw his entire career away just for Hornswoggle. Vince told Finlay to get out of his ring right now, or else you're f... Finlay backed up and Vince said that's more like it. Hornswoggle started to cry as Finlay walked away. Vince called him a coward. Finlay then turned around and smashed Vince in the face with a shillelagh. Finlay started to leave with Hornswoggle, but Finlay remembered there's a match still going on. Horny then went up top and nailed the tadpole splash on Vince for the pin and the win. And the kids went nuts for their little brother winning. Vince was mad in the ring post-match.

WINNER: Hornswoggle in 5:00. All storyline to keep the program going. (n/a)

2 -- CHRIS JERICHO vs. JBL

The match quickly moved to the floor a minute into the action where Jericho got the best of JBL. Back in the ring, Jericho punted JBL in the gut before landing a running dropkick to the face. Jericho slapped on the Walls of Jericho, but JBL broke the hold by grabbing the ropes. Ross talked about Jericho having a tough attitude in the ring and in the locker room while Jericho slapped the skin off JBL's chest. Jericho followed with a roundhouse kick at 4:00, then JBL cut him off with a boot to the face from the apron.

Back from break, JBL landed a series of short-arm clotheslines. JBL then slapped on a sleeper hold in center ring. Jericho broke free, but JBL straight nailed him with consecutive right hand blows to the forehead. He then went for a superplex, but Jericho blocked with a headbutt. Jericho then came off the top with a flying forearm to the back of the head. Both men recovered on the mat, then Jericho placed a hand across the chest for a two count. Jericho then made his full comeback with a leaping dropkick from the corner for another nearfall, followed by a spinning DDT. Jericho had a pin, but JBL casually put his hand on the bottom rope to stop the count. Jericho charged JBL in the corner, but JBL got a boot up and Jericho ate leather. JBL then tried the Clothesline from Hell, but Jericho moved and nailed the codebreaker for the win.

After the match, Umaga hit the ring and dropped Jericho with the Samoan Spike. He then looked at JBL and gave him the Samoan Spike. Ross said JBL supposedly paid off Umaga, but Umaga made a statement that it's every-man-for-himself in the Elimination Chamber.

WINNER: Jericho in 15:00. Fine TV singles match. As for the finish, I don't see the point of having a clean finish to this match unless the feud is over at this point. (**3/4)

3 -- PAUL BURCHILL (w/Katie Lea) vs. BRIAN KENDRICK

Burchill worked on Kendrick early on while Ross read the plug for the Dog Show on CNBC going on right now. Burchill then dropped Kendrick throat-first across the ropes and landed a short-arm lariat. He covered Kendrick for a nearfall. Kendrick came back with a flying leg whip, then a forearm smash in the corner. He then airballed a cross body splash, so Burchill gave him a Curb Stomp. Paging Super Dragon. Burchill then gave Kendrick a turnout slam for the win.

WINNER: Burchill in 3:00. Decent debut for Burchill. He still lacks in the charisma department, which is why he needs his "sister" to complement the act. As for Kendrick, well, should we be surprised? (3/4*)

4 -- JOHN CENA vs. MARK HENRY

Henry quickly grasped Cena and gave him a front slam on the mat. Cena writhed in pain, then Henry measured him for a closed punch to the forehead. Henry ripped off the corner turnbuckle pad, but that gave Cena time to recover and fire off a round of punches to the face. Henry cut him off, though, and slapped on a full nelson. Can he break the Henrylock?! Cena stretched his pec muscles to break the hold, but Henry let up just before Cena could break it. Henry then charged Cena in the corner, but Cena moved and Henry ate the exposed steel turnbuckle. Cena hit a shoulder block from the corner, then he slapped on the STFU and Henry quickly tapped out.

WINNER: Cena in 3:00 via submission. Quick win for Cena to show how strong he is going into the PPV. (*)

5 -- MARIA (w/Santino Marella) vs. MELINA (w/Jillian Hall)

Maria landed an upside down kick to the face early. Santino said he's taught Maria some moves in the ring. Lawler said he doesn't know how he got Maria on his arm, and Santino said it's as simple as him being Italian. Ross asked why the issue with Playboy. Santino said Maria is for him and him alone, not for other people. Ross put over Playboy as an American institution while Melina stretched Maria in center ring. Maria broke free while Santino said he doesn't need Mr. stupid Hefner to tell him his Maria is beautiful. Maria fired up with clotheslines on Melina, then landed a running butt bomb in the corner. Maria suddenly landed a running bulldog out of the corner. Jillian then picked up the mic and started screaming before locking on a kiss on Santino. Maria screamed at Jillian, then Melina rolled up Maria from behind for the win. Santino acted surprised, then smiled as Melina and Jillian walked by, then turned angry when Maria looked at him. Such greatness.

WINNER: Melina in 3:00. Just a filler match to talk about the Playboy build-up. (1/2*)

6 -- SHAWN MICHAELS vs. JEFF HARDY

With both men in the ring, they had a brief staredown before the bell rang. They had a fist-bump of acknowledgement, then Michaels smacked Hardy in the face to show who would be the aggressor tonight. Ross said there are some territories to be marked in this match. Hardy came back with a hard clothesline over the top rope to the floor. Hardy teased a plancha, but landed on his feet when Michaels moved. Michaels and Hardy exchanged slaps to the face, then Hardy skipped back into the ring.

Michaels returned to the ring and Hardy slapped on a headlock. Hardy then countered a headlock from Michaels into a side suplex, followed by another headlock. Hardy whipped Michaels into the corner and Michaels went upside down. Hardy then went for a fallaway suplex from the top, but Michaels twisted to the dominant position in mid-air and splashed Hardy into the mat. Michaels then tried to send Hardy over the top rope, but Hardy skinned the cat and Michaels landed a smashing clothesline. Hardy checked for blood on his lips, then Michaels went to work for a few moments until Hardy gave him a back kick to the mush. Michaels recovered to the outside and Hardy gave him a baseball slide kick to the gut. Hardy then went to the outside and ran across the guardrail for a splash, but Michaels countered in mid-air with a half-powerslam on the padding. Both men collapsed on the floor to catch their breath.

They returned with Michaels in the ring working over Hardy's back with clubbing forearms. Michaels bent Hardy with a modified bow-and-arrow as the camera focused on the blood surrounding Hardy's lip ring. Hardy fought the hold with elbow strikes, then Michaels landed a back breaker across his knee for a nearfall at 10:00. Michaels caught Hardy off the ropes with a neckbreaker for a nearfall, then he dragged Hardy to his feet and worked on Hardy with chops. Michaels slapped on a half Boston crab at 12:00, and Hardy crawled on his belly in the desert to the bottom rope to eventually break the hold. Michaels picked up Hardy to inflict more punishment, but Hardy gave him a kick to the face. They battled up top and Hardy went for a superplex, but Michaels punched him down to the mat. Michaels then came off the top with an elbow drop, but Hardy moved just in time. Lawler said Triple H has to be loving these two tearing each other apart while he sits back and watches.

At 16:00, Hardy fired up a comeback with successive clotheslines. He then landed the trademark double-foot dropkick in the corner for a nearfall. Hardy followed with Whisper in the Wind for an even-closer nearfall. Ross exclaimed that he wants to stand up with the audience right here. Off the ropes, Michaels smashed Hardy in the face with a forearm blow before kipping up. He landed an atomic drop, then set up Hardy for another top rope elbow smash. This time, Michaels connected. He then started to tune up the band for the superkick, but Hardy ducked and went for the Twist of Fate. HBK blocked, though, and locked in an inside figure four. They edited this a touch to make it look cleaner that it actually was. Hardy scratched and clawed to the ropes and just did make it to the ropes to force a break at 19:00.

Hardy sold it like his legs were shot, then Michaels went for another hold, but Hardy kicked him away and got to his feet. He nailed the Twist of Fate, then went up top and nailed the Swanton Bomb. Hardy then made the cover for the pin and the win. Ross screamed: "Are you kidding me? Hardy beats Michaels!" Ross and Lawler excitedly sold the finish and Ross put over Hardy as the hottest superstar right now in the WWE.

WINNER: Hardy in 20:00. In my live report, I gave this ***1/2 stars, as it was tough getting into the action four hours into the taping. But watching it back a second time fresh on TV, it was definitely four-stars-plus. Ross and Lawler's call added a ton to the match on TV that wasn't available live. Great athleticism. Great finish. Two superior athletes have an outstanding TV main event match. Did it sell No Way Out? Well, it wasn't on the level of Hardy-Orton selling the Rumble, but this was still a good final match before the PPV where Ross and Lawler could hit the highpoints on what's coming up on Sunday. ECW on Sci-Fi Results: 2-12-08

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's report [taped last week] complete report). Condensed to in-ring results only.

1 -- STEVIE RICHARDS vs. RORY FOX

Richards landed stiff kicks to the chest and back early on. Richards then landed a hard chop to the chest before dropping Fox with a back body drop. He then nailed a corner splash and double underhook facebuster - the Stevie T - for the win.

WINNER: Richards in 3:00. Good return match victory for Richards. A nice story to build on. (3/4*)

2 -- KELLY KELLY vs. LAYLA (w/Lena)

Layla went to work early with some holds focusing on Kelly's left arm. Layla took Kelly into a standing arm hold, then she went for a suplex, but Kelly countered into a suplex of her own. Kelly then went up top and nailed a cross body block for a nearfall. Kelly went right back at it and nailed a modified rocker dropper for the pin and the win. The females in attendance were thrilled with this outcome for their smiling hero picking up the win.

WINNER: Kelly in 4:00. Basics were fine and they worked hard. Paula: you bring such joy to everyone. Randy: a little pitchy in spots. Simon: utterly forgettable. (3/4*)

3 -- KOFI KINGSTON vs. MIKE KNOX

Knox quickly pounded Kofi into the mat to work him over with a side headlock. Kofi then came back with a flying forearm before hitting his boom-boom leaping leg drop. Kofi did his hand clap before hitting the Jamaican Buzzsaw roundhouse kick for the win.

WINNER: Kofi in 4:00. It's there, but not memorable. The smile gives him charisma and personality, but there has to be more in the ring for him to mean more than just a guy having mid-card matches. (3/4*)

4 -- TOMMY DREAMER (w/Colin Delaney) vs. JOHN MORRISON (w/The Miz)

The action spilled to the outside in the opening minute. Dreamer had control, but Miz tripped him on the ring steps and Dreamer ate the cold steel. Back in the ring, Morrison slapped on an arm bar, but Dreamer turned it into a hip toss. Morrison tried to come back with a slingshot dropkick, but Dreamer moved and Morrison went crotch-first into the bottom rope. Dreamer then fired up with an elbow drop off the ropes and knocked Miz off the apron. Dreamer walked into a back kick, then a martial arts kick to the face from the ropes. He then tried to finish off Dreamer with the turn-out neckbreaker, but Dreamer countered into a DDT for the win.

Post-match: Colin rolled into the ring and congratulated Dreamer on a good win. Styles talked about Dreamer setting a good example for Colin. Suddenly, Miz blindsided Dreamer and dumped him to the floor. Miz and Morrison then bullied Colin in the ring and knocked the headband right off his head. They finished him off with a combo sit-out powerbomb that left Colin searching for air.

WINNER: Dreamer in 4:00. Post-match loser: poor Colin. Another advancement of the program for Colin and Dreamer. Basic storytelling in play here. Perfectly fine. (*1/4)

5 -- C.M. PUNK vs. MARK HENRY

Henry landed a big paw to the face in the opening seconds. Henry then scoop slammed Punk and measured him for a big elbow drop, but Punk moved in time. Punk nailed a knee smash in the corner, then went for the follow-up bulldog, but Henry lifted him into the air and threw him across the ring. On the floor, Henry rammed Punk back-first into the corner ringpost. Back in the ring, Henry choked Punk into the ropes and didn't break on five, earning a DQ.

WINNER: Punk via DQ in 3:00. Cena = clean submission win over Mark Henry. Punk = DQ win while being dominated by Mark Henry. That's all you really need to know about where the #1 contenders on Monday and Tuesday night stand. (3/4*)

Post-match: Punk smashed Henry out of the ring with an enziguiri kick before dragging Chavo into the ring. Punk then dropped Chavo with the Go 2 Sleep and his music hit. Punk picked up the ECW Title belt and held it high in the air over Chavo's fallen body. Punk with another week of one-upping Chavo on TV. Not a good sign for the PPV.
