I got this Famiclone in a trade. It was not working.

I replaced the voltage regulator and it fired right up; I noticed jail bars in the picture, to my dismay.

I soldered in a 100uf cap between PPU pins 20 and 22, which cleaned up the bars a bit..but they are still there.

It appears to be a 1:1 Famiclone. Has anyone tried to get rid of the jail bars completely?

Sounds like a really close clone, since a real Famicom has a pretty good chance of producing jailbars when you AV mod it. You've already added a cap, the next step on a real Fami is to put copper foil tape over the PPU to try to block interference. If you go search over at Famicom World there was a long thread a few years back where people tried all kinds of things to eliminate jailbars which had various amounts of success depending on the motherboard revision. I never could eliminate it completely in mine.

It is super close. I'm pretty certain that I could install a real CPU/PPU and have it work just fine. I'll try shielding the PPU and see where that goes.

Maybe I should check to see if a power line runs too close.
