Meh. Are people still excited about shit emulator collections? Like how many times can you rebundle the same shit with little to no effort. Give me real ports with native 16:9, training modes arranged ost etc. Shit like this is just pathetic milking

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection was an underwhelming, minimal effort affair. I'm sure online will be handled the same way with only 2-3 games playable.

I'd bite instantly if it had VI. No VI, who cares.

In the PAX panel they said all games would have online and that they were spending a lot more time on this especially for the extras like the digital museum. What is interesting is that even with all modern consoles and PC listed, they kept saying more platform announcements were coming which leads me to believe this will be cross gen.

the ACA arcade perfect versions are already on PS4 PSN Store. and Samurai Shodown VI port is there too. yea the collection has online but people are always paranoid and underrate SNK netcode.

also would that collection be uncensored like Code Mystics's Samurai Shodown V Special on PSN?

I dont mind them milking Samurai Shodown series, but porting and localizing Samurai Shodown RPG on current consoles would make them more money than this collection and Octopath Traveler COMBINED.

there are millions of more gamers that love RPGs more than fighting games, and a fighting RPG they never seen/played before would be at the top of their list of must haves.
Samurai Shodown RPG is better than Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII and tons of other overrated RPGs.

This comment is such bullshit. The maps were small, the encounter rates were ridiculously high, and the run thru playtime was less than a day, and would have been 6 hours with a normal encounter rate and battle system that wasn't so dependent on special moves slowing down the interface.

It would probably make less money than Life of Black Tiger...thus, making it a huge financial loss for SNK.

Am I missing something here? What is saner's obsession with SSRPG? Did Deuce start posting here again?

Wow, it was that short all along?

Thatís cute fanboyism at best, outright delusion at worst, c'mon dude...

As was pointed out, how can you genuinely evaluate it story-wise against the Squaresoft RPGs you mentioned without an English localization ?? The story is the most important thing with a RPG, isn't it ?? I know it is for me!

And if what Wasabi said is true, I shouldn't have wasted any of my time with it, guess I was being superficial and admiring the sprites, and part leftover residue from being a fan of the arcade game BITD.

Not really shocking given the level of bitch around here, but I find it amusing that you're the only person asking real questions.

This is some of the most lazy, low effort shit in gaming. These crappy emulator repackages should be like $5 max.

You could do a lot of really interesting stuff with a proper remaster of the Samurai Shodown games like make the games render at double resolution so that even when you're zoomed out the sprites still look just as detailed as they do when you're zoomed in, etc. That would actually require effort and cost money, though, and they know that stupid fanboys will pay for literally anything with the name SNK on the box, so they squat out these turds.

In the #SAMURAISHODOWN Neo Geo collection, we have another cool trick up our sleeves: HD Zoom. The native resolution of the Neo Geo is 320x224. Sprite scaling consists of dropping pixels when scaling sprites down so that any amount of zoom-out causes pixels to be skipped over.

By rendering the Neo Geo over 2x, doubling scanlines and doubling horizontal pixels, we generate a larger image where scaled-down sprites don't drop pixel data. All source pixels are seen on screen, and the process also makes camera zooms much smoother.

This doesn't require any modification to the games, and makes them look the best that they've ever looked. See the images below: Old vs. New.

Finally, an emulation compilation worth purchasing, that provides something new and fresh. Got my preorder in for the limited version through the SNK shop. Also going to pick up the PC version for free on launch in hopes of the rom data being accessible.

I'd bet a good chunk of money that they were reading this thread, saw my post, and just added that to the game (you can modify ~3 lines of code in MAME to do what they did).

The problem is that their implementation blows. If you look closely at the screenshots, you can see that tiles aren't aligned properly so there are gaps between the pixels. You'd have to actually do a little work for a clean implementation that didn't have problems like that.

    Great job, shovelware pushers!

Nice gaps between virtual pixels. The future truly is now.

It's pretty pathetic, really. Should I post a MAME build that does this better than them?

I don't know about that case so well.

I just remember the arcade stabbing being all over the news. And this huge debate in the media if game centers were safe places. And then BOOM! Every violent game was taken out of main street arcades. I used to play SSVS every weekend, and then I couldn't find it anywhere.

And then, no matter which arcade re-sell shop you went to Mak Japan, G-Front, Try!, they all had TONS of brand new SSVS MVS Kits.

I should know, I purchased three of them.

I sold one here to the community about 6 years ago I think....

I think the pixel retention process is cool and all - I just hope its on the back end doing the work rather than imbedded in the game data. Reason: I still want an extraction of the SSV:P

The message says the process is done via emulation, which means the roms remain intact.

Interesting story and theory. It could also be that the game just reached that age.
