Game is good but not without some serious flaws.

You run slow as shit (compared to old re where you walk super duper fast), every zombie has different HP (but is static for each one, moot point unless you memorize it), and dismembering parts is extremely rng.

Focus shots do not do more damage according to dataminers. Zombie double lunge is dumb as shit. Mr X not entering save rooms and just standing there waiting his turn to climb ladder is lol. Also I feel like they messed up with the sound effects for both firearms and zombie deaths. The firearms sound weak. The zombies do a death animation + scream but come back up like someone phoenix'd down them.

the game doesn't really reward dexterity but makes it seem like it should. They want you to conserve ammo but every enemy has different hp. I've seen zombies survive two shotgun shells to the face, charge at me not getting stunned with three headshots (one was focused) etc. It is kinda frustrating.

In any case just got the S+ rank on Hardcore Leon A.

Game is amazing. Beat Leon A and about half way on Claire A. They changed all the jump scares so vets will still get spooked. Haven't felt nervousness from a game in a long time. It's tits!

I’ll be damned. I was just assuming that the damage done was a roll. As you said, I’ve encountered some ridiculously resilient bastards. I think my biggest issue is being unsure when they’re actually dead unless the head pops.

All of that said, this is the most fun I’ve had with a “new” game in quite a while. I haven’t played VII yet, because I’ve been holding out for a PC VR version, but this makes that choice s lot harder.

7 was really good...not quite as quite as this, but definitely worth playing through a couple times.

Game shipped (some outlets say sold, more say shipped) 3 million copies in its first three days out.

So, obviously saner is right about everything as he always is.

Well, in the interest of fairness, he said that the game was overrated and overhyped and that people would forget about it before too long,.

The game is almost universally beloved, and many of these glowing reviews have been objective enough to point out the game's flaws.

So, given both the fan and critical reception, the game is neither overrated or overhyped. It's receiving an amount of attention and excitement commensurate with the general perceived quality of the product.

He also said that people would forget about it before too long. The jury is obviously still out on that one.

But the game is not overrated or overhyped.

So right now, Saner is batting a POTENTIAL .333. Which is fine if this is baseball and you have 400 plate appearances in a year.

But if you've only swung three times and missed twice, you kind of suck.

To be fair, it's probably pretty hard to swing with the bat up his/her ass.

Just beat The 4th Survivor today.

It was pretty intense at points. I don't think it has much going for it in terms of replay value and I felt the ending could have been a bit more satisfying but overall I felt accomplished for having gotten through it. It is pretty harrowing at times.

This is pie in the sky, but I've always lamented that we never got a Resident Evil story based game where you play as Hunk in a post-Umbrella world. Actually, my idea for a RE game was to play as Hunk at some point shortly after Resident Evil 2 where the first half of the game, you're doing Umbrella missions. Then in the second half of the game, he's sent to steal a young Sherry away from the US Government, ends up sort of bonding with her and then realizing that giving her to Umbrella is just trading one cruelty for another. She gets under his skin, essentially, and sort of humanizes him. Then the second half of the game is breaking her out of an Umbrella facility where, of course, the experimentation has gone awry. I could dig that.

But that's just my fan fiction pipe dream. Anyway, back to talking about Resident Evil 2.

I just received the boardgame from Steamforged Games, which I backed at the full amount to get all the Kickstarter bonuses. Goddamn, what a boardgame. But that's a discussion for a different section of this site.

Playing through on Standard Mode now.

A couple of storyline based reflections, value them as you value the 'story' of this series:

Nowhere in this game is Mr. X explained. I can't remember, but I'm fairly certain that there is some file somewhere or some detail that explains Mr. X in the original game well before he mutates into his final form. In this game, there's no explanation given. Ada probably knows but she never tells Leon. The giant alligator, giant roaches and other weird stuff can be explained as unintended consequences of the G Virus. But Mr. X is a large dude in a trench coat and top hat stomping around that wants to kill you for reasons. Has anyone found any kind of narrative reasoning for Mr. X's presence in this game within the game itself? Unlike the zombies and other monsters, he is clearly not an accident. Also, he is more of a giant noir-ish looking dude in this game, whereas in the original version of the game, he looks like a fascist super soldier. I kind of like the older aesthetic more.

Ada-In the original game, she was mysterious but not annoying. She had a mysterious allure and there was a sexy element to the way she talked, bad voice acting and all. In this game, she just comes off like an unlikable cunt with a chip on her shoulder. The problem with all of this is that you have to cover more character ground to break down her 'tsundere' archetype in this new game. In the original version, she didn't have as long of a journey to get there.

I also think there are passages in the original game that create a stronger sense of connection between her and Leon. For example, there is a short sequence where the two of you are navigating some passages and killing zombies together. There is no pseud-escort element here, and that just makes her feel more distant from the eventsl

I fully understand that this game's story and characters are nonsense, but for some reason something just feels 'off' about Ada.

Also, the two side missions with Ada and Sherry in this game just aren't very good IMO. Especially Sherry's, which was WAY better in the original game.

There's actually quite a bit missing from this version of the game that I wish they would have put in. It's not as good as the original version.

But, all of that said, as a product on its own merits it's still pretty stellar.

Mr.X is just a more stable Tyrant sent by Umbrella to get rid of any surviving witnesses AND to retrieve the G-Virus sample from Sherry. There might've been multiple Mr.X's active at the same time. He is not a G-Virus creature.

Obviously not stable enough as he mutates into a form more similar to the Tyrant from the first game after being badly injured.

Umbrella Chronicles had a file on him https://residentevil.fandom.com/wiki/Emergency_Orders

Except for the hat he doesn't look much different from the original game.

Well, I already know the lore behind the character. I've been pretty invested in Resident Evil since day 1 and I've probably fallen deeper into the mythology hole on this series than most.

My question wasn't 'what is Mr. X?', but 'does REmake 2 give a reason for his existence and presence in this game?' Those of us familiar with the series can fill in the spaces just fine, but if I was to come into this game with no prior knowledge of the series, would this game explain him to me? Because it does a decent job of explaining everything else that's happening here but as far as I can tell, there is no exposition on him. You're just running around the police station and suddenly, Zombie Dick Tracy is throwing a helicopter out of the way to get at you.

Also, I think they look pretty different between the two games, although not so different that he's unrecognizable. The original one didn't wear a hat and look like Inspector Tyrant. He looked more like a Nazi experiment.

What a great game! I dived right in on hardcore, not an easy feat and I failed alot.

Unlike what the newest resident artard is saying I will be playing this game for a while.

The Mr. X lore is awesome. He is stable being from the T-103 series of Tyrants but mass amounts of trauma causes the T-virus to rapidly mutate as a way to make the Tyrant survive. However with the increased mutation comes loss of a lot of cognitive ability and sends them into blind rage and aggression. A lot of Capcom literature suggests that more than one T-103s are indeed in Raccoon on different missions.

If you watch the cutscene from the original Resident Evil 2, the helicopter that drops the pod containing Mr. X (a scene that I feel sorely needed to be in the remake), that helicopter is carrying a bunch more pods. This implies that Umbrella is dropping them off all over the city to look for the G Virus.

I’m already excited for the inevitable RE3make.

I would prefer they skip 3 and go to Code Veronica. Really though, a lot of the older games could get the remake treatment and I would be happy if it turned out like RE2. Would love to see it happen for RE0 too.

I really like this game. Finished standard modes for Both Leon A and Claire B. The graphics look great and the atmosphere is real good. As for gameplay, I found it difficult to consistently get head shots, but maybe thats by design? I like the way the zombies sway and are somewhat erratic with their movements; they are not as static and easy to kill. Its a little embarrasing to say, but I was actually afraid of running into the tyrant.

I like the character development for Leon, Claire, and Sherry. The ending with all of them is really nice. As a fan of the series I kind of hoped Leon and Claire would end up together, but this was good too.

Some complaints. Ada is forgeatable IMO. Sherry and Claire go well together, but I don't think Ada and Leon did much for each other. Running is too slow in this game and when Claire runs she looks like thick.

Did anyone get the secrets in that film? I didn't want to go back and explore the station for it.

I went back for them in Leon A. In the S.T.A.R.S. office, there is a laser sight for the Magnum that I believe makes aiming faster. In the press room, there is a fuel tank for the flame thrower.

I am hoping this prompts Capcom to do a RE3 or Code Veronica remake. 3 was pretty fun once you get the dodging mechanic down.

Overall I was really impressed with this remake, still have some work to do to get a S+ on hardcore.

Does nobody want a remake of the the first resident evil? I would prefer that over 3 or any others.

You realize this is running on the engine of the RE1 remake from like 2 years ago right?

Or did you not care enough about RE1 to notice it’s release?
