Here are a bunch of my scribbles from Nintendo's "free" SwapDoodle Nintendo 2DS/3DS app that I've exchanged with a few friends over the past month-or-so. I say "free" because, unless you pay real money for add-on packs, which I'm too cheap to do, you only get black and red ink, and a pretty limited amount of ink at that (instead of being greedy, Nintendo should have made the whole shebang a pre-installed program to begin with). You may remember that, back in the day, Nintendo's instruction manuals for the original Gameboy were usually only printed in black and red ink in the USA, so, I have to wonder if the basic package's ink choices are some kind of twisted homage to that. Anyway, working within those limitations, and on a teensy touch screen with a plastic stylus, does make for an interesting artistic challenge. There's no way, that I'm aware of, to get rid of my Mii in the bottom left corner, so, while his hand often intrudes onto the artwork, I wanted to keep the dates, so, I didn't crop him/me out.

Near the beginning of the 3DS's life I had some friends that would use Swapnote or whatever every day and I'd turn the thing on just to see what doodles my buds had done for the day. When Nintendo killed it we were all sad. We never resumed it with Swapdoodle, the joy was gone. Thanks, Nintendo.

If I'm remembering right, Nintendo killed SwapNote because there was controversy over pervy Japanese dudes sending pornographic images to kids (I believe that you could attach any photos you wanted in SwapNote, in SwapDoodle, you can only attach screenshots, and only from particular games at that).

When I saw the title I thought you wanted to trade hand drawn dick pics.

That is the one logical use for the software on this particular forum. Everyday of the year could be cawk-swapping Christmas.

Y'know, when Ren-chan asked me if I was going to participate in Inktober last year, I told him no, there's no way that I can churn out that volume of drawings. This thread proves that I'm a fooking liar!

I didn't draw Mario in the Snoopy one or the three smaller Pokémon in the Pancham pic, those are all badges from Nintendo Badge Arcade.

Some succubi have no subtlety, some do--maybe it's skin-tight and see-through? I didn't create her, so, I can't take credit for her fashion sense, or lack thereof; she's a monster from the Gameboy Color version of Azure Dreams . . . I don't remember if she was actually a succubus, or some other kind of mythical creature though.

Right, I get that. I'm just saying, it's crazy how we allowed censors to impede the common sense of succubi, who probably flutter around buck naked trying to give fangy fellatio to sleepy males. Same goes for the Tatooine female covering her breast-like flesh mounds. Are we to assume it has nipples? Or that it even has mammalian organs whatsoever? For all we know, aliens have cloacal structures like birds.

Are you talking about Yarna (one of Jabba's dancers)?

yarna.jpg

I think she did have nipples, but her physiology was somewhat different than humans. There's a short story about her, in the "Tales From Jabba the Hutt's Palace" collection (great book by the way if you're interested in Star Wars), that I read many years ago, but, I can't remember all of the details since it's been so long. I believe Jabba was into her because she reminded him of his Mother. But yeah, I agree that an alien could very easily have very different sexual organs than we do, even if they're generally humanoid in appearance.

I'd say succubi are probably more attractive with at least some clothing, even if it doesn't actually conceal anything (the Castlevania variety for example).

That's because we're placing human sensibilities on the attractiveness of succubi, but are we mortals really the arbiters of demonic beauty? Or should demons be the ones to determine whether or not they are beautiful?

Could the entire problem that humans face with demons be boiled down to self esteem problems stemming from demons trying to live under the human standards of attractiveness?

Interesting ideas about demons and their appearance. At least in Christianity, demons are thought to be fallen angels, and angels are typically depicted as winged humans, so, from that perspective, I would think that they'd have similar standards as far as beauty goes, but, who knows?

This morning, I checked the Flying Omelette's GBC Azure Dreams sprite bestiary, that I have saved on my hard drive, and she apparently isn't a succubus and is named "Vevil" (vixen + evil maybe?) The reason I say that she's not a succubus is because I discovered that there already is a succubus enemy in that game, with a different sprite/design, so, she's probably intended to be some other kind of mythical creature, although I can't say for sure what. The Vevil is kind of harpy-or-werebat-ish in appearance, however, the Vouivre, from the Shin Megami Tensei series, is the closest thing I can think of, anatomically and name-wise (I would speculate that the word would be written very similarly in katakana too, since the Japanese language doesn't have "v" or "l" sounds, which are generally approximated with "b" or "r", respectively).

Not Swapdoodle, but, I'm too lazy to start another thread.

Cut-out figurine of the back view of the Tiamat enemy from the PC Engine CD Princess Minerva RPG:

Unfinished sketch of Divada, my favorite character from SNES/Genesis Weaponlord that I'm probably never going to finish or color:

where do you find the subject matter inspiration for these pieces?

Some are just from my imagination, but, the majority of them I draw using my huge collection of books and magazines as still life reference models.

On a related note, in one of the 3DS groups I belong to on Facebook, I was surprised when another member posted that SwapNote IS still available for download in the Nintendo eShop, so, I checked it out, and that's true, but, it comes with a disclaimer that Nintendo has discontinued SpotPass usage on it since 2013, so, you can't even send anybody online messages with it, so, I don't know why they left it up.
