I didn't pay attention to the thread creator when I saw the title and assumed this thread was created because of MJR's latest video (came across my 'suggested videos' section and clicked on it when I saw the title.)
Basically, the guy has water/mold in his basement due to a leak in the foundation of his house. He posted pics online, and when people showed concern for his well-being (or so he says), he created a video showing the damage, getting an estimate for a solution to the problem, and then closing by saying that he wanted to make this video so people wouldn't wonder why his next few videos wouldn't show the basement in upheaval. He went on to title the video "Oh no! $10,000 basement repair' or something like that, and many people have been ripping him a new one in the comment section of that video for his backhanded e-begging.
There was absolutely no need to show any of what's going on in house, talk about possible solutions, and then mention a dollar figure. The reasoning he gives is flimsy and reminiscent of the scheme a kid would concoct for their parents in calling home talking about their problems hoping their parents will feel sorry for them and offer money without a direct ask.
As people had said in the comments, sometimes - if you can'[t afford to get it done - you just have to sell some shit to take care of real world responsibilities. I imagine there will still be plenty of folls who will set up a 'go fund me' or something for this guy and gladly throw money at him to fix his house problem. Disgusting.
