Just wondering if I'm being unreasonable here. Over the last month I have bought two NGCD controllers (yes I know 'real men' use joysticks, I have one of those too :) )

I understand the d-pads on these controllers are pretty fragile, but both the ones I have bought have non-clicking microswitches in at least one direction. They still work, but to me the click is part of the design and helps with playability (hence why everyone complained about the 'analog stick' on the NG Mini controllers.)

I bought both of these from eBay from different sellers, described as 'fully working' and they were not cheap, circa £50 each. Do you think it is fair for a seller to describe an NGCD controller with non-clicking microswitches as fully working? Should I be sending these back, or is it something I need to accept on a 20+ year old controller?

the only thing i see wrong here is the item writ/description. (going by your post)
NOTHING MORE!
if the pads work, not an issue.
if what you was after is the mkI, look on these boards or specialist places.
rubber pads are just another method of contact, microswitches buckle and wear out much quicker.
do agree the switched versions give a feedback.
i guess it's down to preference.
as for what the subject is about, totally fair, if somewhat lacking on the preface. :D (imo)

Well they're still fully working if all buttons register in test mode. The clicking microswitch noise is akin to scuffs on the controllers surface in my opinion, I feel like it should have been put in the description.

I'd be more unimpressed than trying to return it.

If you want a refund get one but, I'd say with the age of these things its to be expected these days. Granted all mine are clicky though I dont know if I pay that much attention to even notice if they click in all directions.

Thanks, I decided to keep them. I still think the sellers should have mentioned the lack of clicking in the descriptions though, I would have done.

Open them up and use some contact cleaner on the switches. They're probably full of the plastic dust that comes off the back cover where the central rod grinds its cradle.
Make sure you clean the dust as best as you can and then apply some silicon grease to the round end of the rod or the cradle to prevent further wear on it.
