When you look at those titles and the sheer number of hours of play in them you realise that the money we pay/paid for this stuff is a pittance really.

Edit: could do with a shmup perhaps

Was kinda hoping for SOTN to be on the list but some great titles none the less. Is there a European game list too or just Japanese?

Intelligent Qube is an extremely odd choice. I was under the impression that was a rather obscure title but maybe i’m wrong..?

It is a weird list...but it does have a few good offerings. I'd say that the stand out title would be Persona. They game has aged well, is very creative, and relatively expensive to get your hands on an original copy. i bought it when it came out way back when and really enjoyed it.

A few on that list have aged horribly.

This is where its going to get interesting. The 16-bit or less era of gaming has aged pretty well. Old NES, SNES, or Genesis games still look pretty solid. There's a few that haven't aged well, but any have. The first real 3D era (PS1, N64, Saturn) has suffered over time, many of the those games just look terrible now.

Meh, no analog and the list is not that interesting. Destruction Derby over Wipeout? TM1 over TM2? No Crash Bandicoot....

I agree, there's lots of biff's on that list. I've long said that I felt the PS1 is one of the greatest consoles ever made, that list does not reflect the best of that system's library.

Eh, different strokes, I guess.

I am not saying the list is terrible, 1/3 of these games should be replaced by other games that most people associate with PS1 (Bandicoot, SOTN, etc):

Battle Arena Toshinden
Cool Boarders 2
Destruction Derby
Grand Theft Auto
Syphon Filter
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
Twisted Metal

I was a big fan of Destruction Derby at release, but I tried playing it a few months ago and it was a mess.

I am mixed on this. No Crash, Spyro,Tomb Raider, SotN, RE2, Ape Escape, Gran Turismo? I personally identify those with PlayStation, but there are some great titles on here. Glad persona is getting some love

SoTN just got a digital re-release, of course you won't find it on the classic.

RR Type 4 is a masterpiece. Good to see that included.

There are literally 8000 games for PS1.
Let's debate how a selection of 20 games is missing some niche choices....

It would have been interesting to be in on the selection process. I imagine it probably wasn't that much different to this thread.

I think this is also why Crash, Spyro and others are not on the list. Anything with recent remasters and re-releases on other platforms

It is like within the top 25 best sellers for the PS1. I’m glad it’s here. It was on my personal dream sheet for it

There’s only 1,200 US released titles. 2,500 total including Japan.

Most of these aren’t even within the top 100 best sellers so who are they targeting with this?

Confirmed non-purchase for me unless it gets broken wide open. Even then, I have 95% of the PS1 games I'm interested in and the only non-official thing I'm interested in playing is Policenauts, which I finally got working on an emulator.
