Was apparently going to he a 6th generation home console. Tentative specs where impressive.
I think it's probably bullshit but who knows.

I remember this rumor. This was the console that Aruze supposedly pulled the plug on around the dreamcast era. Unlike the “Neo Star” console, I don’t really remember anyone really substantiating the “Millennium” system. Anyway, these were the rumored specs I could find:

CPU INTEL PENTIUM LOGIC INOVATION IV TO 900 MHZ
Graphic card 3D MATROX CHIPSET GPUN (G800?)
Polygons 450 million Polygons per second
Textures 30.2 GigaPixels per second? damn high!
Memory 128 Mb to 300 Mhz
Speed DVD and CD DVD TO 6X AND CD AT 32X
Sound Stereo with 128 channels
S.O. Microsoft C.E. or SNK Control Panel
Modem 128 Bps.
Matrox G800 Rumour Details :
Pin compatible with G450
Double fillrate of G450 (450 million polygon/s?)
Support for 250MHz DDR FCRAM
Support for Hardware T&L
Support for DirectX 8.0 Shader and fully functional DX7
New DX7, 8 IDC drivers
Mass production : Sept. 2000.
Dual G800

lol Yeah that’s basically how the posts read, so I always figured the claim was pretty much no good since it was never substantiated beyond that person’s claim.

Maybe a planned Hyper NG64 home console before SNK realized 3D was trash?

thanks. then my question is what the hell would of snk done with such a console?. all they know is arcade style games with the exception of a few rpg experiments.

That's kind of why it's probably unlikely such a console was ever in the works.

There has to be someone at SNK to ask.

Jason Young? There could be a prototype left...

Edit: ...in his garage.

a console equivalent to the dreamcast/naomi would of made more sense and be more believable because the games they were releasing later on needed that kind of console to run their games such as kof 11 and battle coliseum.

Without any production prototypes this was almost certainly just a cost/specification test: If it existed it was a pc in a box and never went any further.

Whilst costs of the unit would probably be an element (although plausible this could be an arcade/dev starting point) the real kicker was probably just that they didn't have any titles to put on it, and no muscle to challenge the likes of sony/microsoft/nintendo when competing for 3rd parties: the overriding narrative coming out of the previous generations being quality/exclusive 3rd party support.

I do remember seeing a patent recently (idk why i was looking at patents)for an SNK home console that was submitted in 98 and published in 2000. It looked different then the mockups for the Star and would have been more towards the end of the 90's, where the Star was possibly in the mid-90's. This was also after the Hyper 64 was release. Figure 8 specifically: https://patents.google.com/patent/EP0997172A1

Fig 8 is just the original Neo Geo CD. More interesting is Fig 13 which looks like a vertical Neo Geo Pocket.

Ahh that makes sense, I feel like I did see some other patents at one point for another system that didn't look like the AES or CD. It also looks like from the patent they planed a built in display maybe for it and the patent year was 98-2000 wasn't the CD discontinued in 97? Also yea, I thought that portable vertical was interesting too! It looked almost like a Gameboy Color.
