they also added offline splitscreen co-op.

here are some tips
1. online appears to be region specific, like NA cannot play with EU, however a region as far as south america is able to play with NA (based on a NA player's experience, they asked the other player where they're from and they said south america, and they were able to co-op.

2. if someone receives an invite and it says PS Store instead of a join option, that is an automatic sign their regions are incompatible for online play with the game (this happens in other games too that dont have cross region servers).

3. there may be exceptions, but its unknown whether NA can play with asia.

4. there are findings that horse sprinting risks lagging the online to the point where a player can wind up freezing themselves. fast travel warping seems to be fine, though. Also, if someone lags when a quest is completed, try to wait until the routine triggers full quest completion, that can fix stasis. if you have trouble getting a quest to start cause player is lagging, talk to npc again and cancel the quest and see if they reconnect.

5. been playing with movie graphics, but I think action graphics has smoother framerate even online (in single player its now up to 60 fps around there on regular PS4), havent tested it though but Im impressed with movie graphics mode's framerate, its not perfect but its much more playable than when the game launched. so I switched from action mode to movie mode.

6. initial loading of player 2 can feel like 10 minutes, but patience is a virtue, players having a good time with the online waited for the player to load fully, and they have a great time. haven't seen any disconnects from player after they joined. periodically a player may lag, but everytime it fixed itself in a matter of seconds or a minute or two.

6. once a chapter is completed/completing key main mission, the host is unable to progress until they 'leave' the online session , its recommended to save after leaving online session if you wanna save your progress.
(this is based on free mode online experiences, not sure about story mode online co-op rules, though there's plenty players can do together before finishing the chapter, so there's a lot more long term gaming incentives and activities to do than other musou games online where you just beat a quick stage/battle and then it kicks out the players. Yea, Im looking at you Warriors Orochi 3 and DW8Empires. So DW9 online is so much greater.)
