it's great the SaGa series is ongoing and getting promotions!

Romancing SaGa 2 is one of the greatest, most overlooked RPGs ever (its remaster now available on various platforms)! and Romancing SaGa 3 is confirmed coming to PS4 and other platforms too in 2019
the Romancing SaGa trilogy is so ultimate! and Scarlet Grace is looking to be a masterpiece too (avoiding import spoilers, it's getting translated version anyways, so save the surprises for that).

I've only ever played the original game AKA FF Legend, which is hard as balls. I also remember a stand-up comedian having a bit about that game way back in the day.

I've always been half interested in learning more about the series, but the montage didn't really do much fore me except for the Romancing Saga 3 trailer.

Heres hoping they put it on as much shit as possible. I day oned the xbox version of romancing saga 2. I really love the art direction they went with too.

He's hoping the ball keeps on rolling and we get to the SaGa Frontier games too.

Is it a self-contained story? Or am I going to be lost? I'll DL it for Switch if/when it goes on sale.

The frame rate in the Romancing Saga 2 remaster is jarring. It mostly shows when you are moving and the screen is scrolling on a TV. Go with a fan-translated SNES rom (if there is one).

I'd be playing in mobile mode.

This. I ended up playing it on Switch entirely in mobile mode. Looks fine that way. Great game though. Did wish they had put more effort into making some of the menus more user friendly. Setting up a new emperor and party late in the game probably took me like 20-30 minutes each time.

Looking forward to playing 3.

the entire playthrough the framerate is smooth enough to me. framerate wasn't even a thought when playing though RS2 on PS4. it scrolls fine. :)

It gave me a headache. Some tile sets were worse than others. The floor in the emperor's castle was especially bad.

I'm sorry but its 2018 no one who gives a shit about tv has a 32" tv anymore. Average size even tv, even for low end come housing is 55". I dont own a single tv in my house smaller than 65" unless its for retro gaming.

 32" is unusually tiny. I have a 55" Sony X900E which I don't think qualifies as either too large or "weird".

sprites and pixel art in general tend to not look right the more exaggerated the TV size. we're talking SNES gen pixel art here, of course if you blow up 2D art like that, its gonna look funny on a huge screen.

and 32" is not tiny if it's 3 to 4 feet from you.

The issue isn't that it's a sprite based game on a large TV, it's that they took a remake for phones and ported to consoles with minimal effort. There are plenty of sprite based games that look just fine on a large HDTV. An actual SNES w/ OSSC on the same TV wouldn't give me a headache. Or even those Hamster Neo Geo ports, for example.

ah, if people didn't look up all that technical dissection comparisons mumbo jumbo up and just played RS2 on a platform like PS4 as is, they wouldn't find it jarring at all. Criticisms of the sprites/display/framerate is really reaching for reasons to dislike it and feel uncomfortable with it. >_> It still looks leagues better than the SNES/SFC original. I had no problems with its visuals (and while it would be nice to have Imperial SaGa/Emperor SaGa tier sprites and visuals, it still looks good regardless)

I could rant and nitpick how the battle menu UI in RS2 is not quite as good as it could be, but it would be petty to do so since it is quite easy to adapt to and actually looks and functions well. so no sense spoiling one's soup.

well anyways, great news! the RS3 remaster is looking gorgeous and greater than the original!

I mean it literally gave me a headache on my TV. Not sure what mumbo jumbo I'm spouting here.

Still loved the game (after switching over to playing on the Switch in handheld mode).

Uhg. I can't believe I'm bumping a Saner thread. Did anyone get RS3? Thoughts? I still haven't played 2. Should I go with 2 or 3?

This is how it starts, first you bump his threads and then you start referring to mundane things as unique or amazing.

I got it. It's my first time playing it and I find it quite enjoyable. I think I enjoyed the premise and mechanics of 2 more though. In 2 you control an emperor, and when they die, you just choose the next successor and keep going. Very unique and ambitious for a 16-bit console JRPG. 3 is more traditional, but very much still SaGa. Either way, don't be afraid to look some mechanics up online. The games can be very obtuse and there's a lot not explained in-game at all.

Finished RS3 tonight with:

Katarina - bow, fire + lunar magic
Ward - big sword
Nora - axe
Undine - water + lunar magic
Boston - martial arts, water + lunar magic

At some point, Boston ended up with fire magic for 3 types simultaneously. Not sure how that happened.
