Hey guys.

Just wanted to give a quick update on my progress in converting the RGB from the neo geo directly to HDMI without any fancy circuits.

https://youtu.be/79aldZ6SzIk

I used this Converter from Aliexpress and connected RGB and Sync directly from the Jamma Connector.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Arc...EGA-YUV-TO-HDMI-HD-Jamma-for/32860166720.html

You can Size and Position the picture in H and V Direction - change the R G B Amounts and select Resolutions from 640x480 up to 1368x768.

I am quite happy for the price - it might be an option for people who want to run it on newer TVs. Keep in mind you will have to make a Audio Out as this converter is video only (however I use a seperate Audio anyways).

Hope you all have a good weekend :)

I've always wondered about these, is there any noticible lag? That's what usually kills it for me on the OSSC alternatives, but seeing that the most common RGB converters are either not HDMI (Jrok) not readily available (NeoVGA) or expensive (OSSC/Frameister) this is rather intriguing.

Don't get your hopes up.

I don't experience any lag. The Geometry can be set exactly to your screen. I am quite happy with it. But I have nothing to compare it with honestly. But yeah at least no Lag and the picture looks good. Also for this price there is not much to be lost..

Just do what I did. I made an informed decision to purchase the OSSC based on many reviews (most notably My Life In Gaming). Then I saved up for it via my job and eventually purchased it. Easy peasy.

Well, like I said - I am very happy price/performance wise. Just wanted to show you a cheap alternative that has proven to work (for me) without noticeable lag and many parameters that will help you adjust the geometry and picture.

Understandable. But I loooove the SCART input on the OSSC. Plus, there's this if you need some profile guidance:

How’s the picture sharpness on these? Any interference like the 8200/8220 had?

You can adjust the sharpness levels. I think the Picture is even better than with the SCART RGB cable I have because I have more settings to adjust.
Will add the scanline generator today and then make some photos / videos.

I tested metal slug again yesterday and I can see zero lag compared to my Scart RGB

Does it come with plugs/leads or do you have to make your own?

I just soldered the R G B / Composite Sync and 5V directly to the board. It comes with some wiring that is more used to connect to VGA.
You will need to get your own HDMI Cable as well of course. But it's a matter of minutes to solder the wires as there are not many needed.

I was just wondering if you could put it in a box and then switch it round to use it for multiple systems or via a splitter or something.

Post up some pics when you are finished? Gives me some ideas but not sure if this would be feasible for what I am thinking....

Finished my HDMI / Scanline generator setup.
Super happy with the results.
Now I can feel like in the arcade even on my new HDTV and that for a total of around 60 Euro.

Here now a video from the scanline generator with the HDMI Upscaler (first is big width and then I change to small width).

Also some photos of the quick 3D printed case I made for now.

Some more Info:

HDMI Upscaler on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Arc...720.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.39ca4c4dgrLrxM
Scanline Generator on Ebay: https://www.ebay.de/itm/SLG-220-Pan...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

The things I did:

The Upscaler and the Scanline generator both need 5V which I supply with a 1A 5V Samsung USB Charger.

On my MV-1FZ I had to connect the R G B Lines using 220UF Caps (which is kind of standard) and then run a resistor from the composite sync pin to ground until the sync issues went away. In my case I used a 1k resistor. I did not use a capacitor for the composite sync because then I had issues with the signal.
You can adjust geometry - size/position - color / brightness / contract etc. etc. on the upscaler. I run it at 800x600 resolution for now as it seems to make the best picture on my HDTV. Also you can adjust the RGB Lines seperately on both the Upscaler and the Scanline generator until you get the desired effect
On the TOP of the case you see the scanline generator - on the bottom you see the upscaler - that is why I left an open space to be able to control the buttons easily if I ever decide to change the settings.

That should sum it up - so for those looking for a cheap alternative you might want to give this a go.

Looks good dude.

Thanks man..
I also kinda revived an older project of mine which uses a 4:3 Monitor that supports HDMI.. works like a charm.. It also has speakers so its almost a small arcade cabinet vibe haha

wait for Mike Chi's scart to yPbPr converter then have the signal go through the retroTINK-2X (audio capable)

https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=63338

Well if you need Audio in your HDMI Signal that might work yes - however I see the capabilities of the RetroTink 2X are quite limited.
It doesn't really have a on screen menu to change the geometry and resolution and everything and it is more expensive this way.
Also you don't have as much control over scanlines (which is needed for me).

The RetroTink 2X does not have a scanline mode by its own..
So in the end you would look at 3x devices to get a halfway result only to include the HDMI Audio.

I rather go with my external audio setup which delivers way higher quality audio (bass) than my TV for an even better experience.
And the BOSE Soundlink mini are not big either so its still compact.
