Hmm, a Fight Club Tyler Durden-style character, eh? From a moveset perspective, he looks similar to Mila (probably sans MMA style grapples).

Why? They got more realistic each time.

I use to have a lot of fun back in the day with friends, playing Dead or Alive 2 on DC.

That's really the only one I have played though.

What would be the definitive DOA up to this point, DOA 2 for JP Dreamcast?

DOA2:U for oXbox is the best version of 2, but 5:LR is probably the "definitive." I think each one released with 3 onwards had their charms, though.

- The critical burst mechanics and its juggle enhancements in DoA5 are completely removed. Juggles now have fixed launch distance.

- Outside of meters, the mechanics are more in line with DoA2 / DoA3

- Fatal Stun is a replacement to critical burst. It takes meters, but can also be landed on airborne opponents to reset the combo / juggle

- Fatal Stun can be reached by landing a break blow (forward S) and then cancelling the animation by pressing the guard button ... Or by doing the SSSS fatal rush combo

- Stun duration is decreased

- Stagger escape (mashing left / right) is removed

- Side stepping is more effective

- Side step attacks blows the opponent away instead of causing stun

- The video contains more details and solid matches

And a new trailer from last week:

- Edit: not mentioned in the video, but the game has two modes:

3-way hold system (pre-doa5 system): where back hold counters all mid attacks

4-way hold system (doa5 system): back hold counters mid punches only, forward hold counters mid kicks.

In the later, high and low back counters still counter all their respective attacks, so only mid is segregated by punches and kicks.

sidestep attacks automatically knocking people down is dumb. there already tons of attacks that knock people down, it makes the fighting too sloppy and resets the intensities.
throws knock people down, holds knock people down (mostly), now side step attacks? there should be mechanics that actually keep the fight standing.

and yes, DOA5LR is the current definitive DOA game.

In contrast to DOA5 which most side step attacks cause stun, the game became a heavy stun fest. The side step attack as it currently is in DOA6 is very evasive. So it's used as more of a "get off me" move since it resets the neutral. It no longer can be used as a way to start up the stun mix-up game. It can also cause knockback before knocking down, so if your back is to the wall you can use the DOA6 side step attack to position switch the opponent, knock them into the wall, and get a small juggle. If that wall happens to be a destructive danger zone then you can get more. Personally, I think the side step attack should only cause knockdown and not register a wall hit because I think it's evasive properties are too abusive.

While you listed a lot of situations (3) that cause knock-downs, don't forget that most of the game is spent in the critical stun mix-up system. Additionally, you can make it so attacks cause knockdowns as well. Knockdowns aren't an abusive thing in this system since priority goes to the one on the ground. The okizeme gives them invulnerable ukemi options including at least two attacks that are only vulnerable on their 2 attacking hit frames. Basically, when you knock down, the offensive player has to switch back to neutral unless they know how their opponent will respond in wake-up. Different experience from Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, and Tekken in those regards.

well overall, there's still more to see to get the overall flow of DOA6 and they are still developing it. I just find people knocking each other down often to be grating after a while. Im not expecting a kickboxing match, but even in real fighting sports, the best fight moments are the fights when they're standing.

though anyways even DOA series a whole, knockdowns are a common and natural thing. I think it will feel similiar to LR fighting overall with the rate of knockdowns that happen.
plus knockdowns are better than constant combo rollercoasters.

Looks like Genfu won't be back. Eliot uses his moves now.

DOA4's Casino stage is returning along with others.

Edit: it's actually one stage that has replicas of old stages.

- The game got delayed for 2 weeks, new release date is March 1st

- Based on interviews with the director and this tweet, they may release a demo prior to the game's release.

- Wall blowbacks act differently now. Instead of being pinned to the wall for extra damage, the character now bounces off, while still being prone to full juggles. However, he / she can still use holds / counters after being bounced (I think):

The beta should be up in a couple of hours and lasts for 3 days. 4 characters, 1 stage only.

That was actually pretty funny. I'm watching the EVO Japan SFV Top 8 rerun tonight, I fell asleep after the Tekken final last night, that shit was crazy!
