Got and repaired another broken 3-6 revision AES earlier this week. Total: $160 shipped! Already have the rest of what I need (controllers, video cables, power, etc).

Traces for Neo-G0 D10 and D11 were the culprit (Neo-G0 pins 33/34; CN5 pins 13A/14A). I had continuity to the nearby vias but not from the vias to the rear cart slot (CN5). Simply having no connection to the cart slot should only result in a blue screen without a cart, as opposed to the click of death we had here, so I presume that the traces go somewhere else critical after the cart slot. Didn’t bother tracing them further since it worked and I can’t see under the cart slot. Understandably, I’m not desoldering the slots for that when the thing works!

Chronicled it here along with a couple other bits (jailbar fix, socketed UniBIOS, LM2575 replacement, etc):
