I only had my top 2 out, also a breeze as other member(s) stated. I hear the real bitch is the bottom. If you have medical insurance I would just get put under. Everyone I have talked to who got the bottoms out said it was a nightmare.

Follow the directions they give you after. When they say don't do something, they actually mean it. One of my friends in high school decided to drink out of a straw, and woke up in the middle of the night with dry socket, and his entire pillow drenched in blood.

My old roomate here in Columbus had his out out about 10 years ago when we lived together. He was on the Vicodin or Percosnacks after. Can't remember which. He told me while on the prescribed drugs he had an argument with me, and was yelling at me, then realized I was actually at work. So basically he had an argument with himself. He wasn't a stranger to drugs either. Drank very heavily, smoked weed daily, and occasionally ate mushrooms. He wasn't a pill popper though, so I guess he had trouble handling those. What I'm getting to here, is it might be nice to have someone look after you for a few day if you're not use to narcotic pain medication. You won't want to do shit like run to the store to get food. Not that you will be eating for a few days anyway. Might want to figure your meals out beforehand.

Had all four taken out at the same time many moons ago. The doc said it wasn't his easiest ever procedure. I was under for over 3 hours until he got all of them out.

I remember the pain wasn't an issue, but the swelling was what fucked me up for about a week. No chance to eat or chew any solids for the next few days.

Hopefully your experience will be a better one and you won't be forced to learn sign language for communication. ;p

I had one removed. The other three are there but will never break through so unless they start hurting, they'll just stay there.

The one that was removed was done so with just novacaine because I don't trust dentists with anesthesia. The oral surgeon pissed and moaned that I was going to be awake during it. It took less then five minutes and didn't hurt in the slightest.

i had all 4 removed in one go... but the second tooth they removed, it felt like there wasn't any painkillers in that side of my mouth so i was pretty much feeling the full pain of my tooth getting drilled right in to.

    that was fun

I had two of my wisdom teeth taken out when I was in the sixth grade--half of my face was seriously swollen out from an abscess or whatever, so they had to go. Getting them taken out wasn't fun, but the real horror started when the novocaine wore off. Some of the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. The prescribed Tylenol-3 w/codeine did the trick for the pain, except my parents forgot to tell the dentist that I'm allergic to acetaminophen (not sure how they forgot that, as giving me Tylenol almost killed me when I was a baby), so it also made me sick as a dog.

So, in short, getting them taken out sucks, but, after a few days, once your gums heal up and the pain mostly stops, life will be good again. And listen to your dentist when he/she tells you NOT to drink from a straw for a while afterwards, doing that can remove the blood clot where the tooth was, resulting it "dry socket" which is EXTREMELY painful and unpleasant.

I had all four of mine taken out about a year back. They gave me a bunch of Valium for the procedure itself, plus the usual Novocaine. Ended up still being able to kinda feel what they were doing, but it's pretty hazy on account of all the Valium. Also some other kind of benzodiazepine I took the night before that I don't remember the actual name of; it apparently used to be given out in the 80's to people going on long flights so they could sleep through it, but they quit prescribing it to traveller's because they'd black out and not remember any of the trip.

Wasn't that bad, even when I think I was kinda sorta feeling what they were doing. Put my headphones in and listened to this album while they worked.

I also overdid the painkillers after they prescribed me some opiate or another, because I lack self-control. Ran out in a couple of days. Ended up overdosing on aspirin afterwards, though not to the life-threatening stage, more like "my ears are ringing and my head feels like it's full of cotton."

Hmm...read through this thread...not sure if I want to reply.

    ...butttt......here goes.

I was broke back in the day, so when I was told in 1996 that I needed to get mine out, I didn't. Fast forward to 1999 and I had one that was impacted so badly that I landed up getting an infection in it, then up into the entire right side of my face including my sinuses and eye.

I had to go on antibiotics to get myself straight enough to have the surgery. Once I had them done, I developed some (obvious) complications due to the damage I had...so the pain was pretty funky. The worst part of the deal was this soaked cording they had to stuff the holes with for the next two weeks...stuff smelled like cloves/chemicals. Between that and the rotten meat smell, my mouth was a disgusting place. On top of that, the procedure of packing the cords in the holes hurt like hell.

In the end I was fine...but I really paid the price for not just having the damn things out before they became infected.

    Edit...

One odd thing of note. Working in a factory at the time, I was put on light duty...figuring they had no such thing, I just took the time off. The week I was off just happened to bee the week of the Columbine shooting, so I was watching that on the news in real time. That whole event is intertwined in my head with sitting around for a week hanging out with Vic-Vicodin.

Had all of mine pulled at the same time. Accidentally punctured my sinus when removing them, which was not fun for the next several weeks.
