    NG.COM: The Future Is Now

    Folks,

we've been discussing the current state of neo-geo.com and its future in recent months, and with "we", I mean members and mods alike. There have been some announcements concerning a change of moderation style in the marketplace which obviously is not what some members want.

As most people have their own view on how this site should be run or what is or isn't good for the well-being of this place, I've started this thread where all members are free to express their views on things like moderation, what's good for this place and how we can make sure that ng.com will be there in the future, giving us hopeless cases an online home.

THIS IS A COMPLETELY UNMODERATED THREAD. Nothing you say here will get you in any form of mod trouble. Tell us what's in your hearts and minds without any fear of repercussion.

Even though this will be unmoderated, it's a serious topic for me.

Now fire away, gents. Let's help to make ng.com great... uhm... nah. Let's discuss the f00k out of this one.

I can understand wanting new blood, but you're gonna run into a lot of hiccups. Most of them are going to happen in the marketplace. You've got to have something setup that will let new people know that this place isn't just a market. When you see 1 or 2 posters go straight for the marketplace , thats where you're getting a lot of agitation.

Any kind of change is going to be an uphill battle, no one (including myself) likes a lot of change. It's going to be a gradual thing.

This is not a trap, nor a fake, nor a parody thread or whatever. Say what's on your mind. How can this place survive?

You deal with him... or you don't...

It seems to me... that new guys are the ones buying... so it is upto individual members to consider if it's worth the added effort of dealing with some one they consider a n00b...

Any kind of change is going to be an uphill battle, no one (including myself) likes a lot of change. It's going to be a gradual thing.
It's never gonna be gradual on such a subject like the market place where a rule can be enforced quickly....

The OTHER stuff that is ingrained into the website... well... that's defo a gradual thingy...

I also hate change with a passion. That's why I want this place to live on because it's the only digital hangout that counts for me. I've been here for almost 17 years now and consider many people here as friends, even though I haven't met many of them in real life. This is a bit like home for me, I care for this place and would hate to see it wither away and die just because we were too blind to see the writing on the wall.

I don't think market nubsters are really an issue, nor do most of us have an issue with a new direction of the market. I generally do a 24 hour no n00bs policy on my sales of teh rarez. All of my trol--err, posting aside, I try to pass deals on to fellow members here. I'm less inclined to sell something cheap to someone here just for the market. But if I was selling Baseball Stars Pro? No problem selling to a n00b. When I get PMs from 10+ year members with 20 posts wanting to buy my shiz I just ignore them. Scoop pricing is for regulars.

    Spoiler:
    Also, Rot is gay.

I think we should focus on banning scammers and their associates instead of old timers with different political views. I'm all for a peaceful marketplace but I can't let scammers indirectly make money here through full of shit middlemen.

    I agree with Cory.

Everybody knows I'm a shitbag with a big mouth, but I think lolcows like Ki should be nourished and milked for their faggot serum, not banned.

I highly disagreed with rot's ragemodding, and even though I commiserate with Charlie and understand the choice he made - I still disagree with Ki's ban, despite hating that Jesus cocksmoker with all my heart.

The beauty of this place is it's lack of censorship. We can't fuck that up.

We lost gohanx over it. Fuck man. Feels bad.

What a long, strange trip it's been. And still we roll down this baffling road, missing those who have left us. Daisuke Jigen, Sifl, SNK4EVER, Nightmare_Tony, Boog, Zero Satori. Gone but not forgotten.

Well, I don't see any kind of problem with ng.com in its current state. Is there any problem? Sure, it was a different kind of forum 15 years ago. But back then SNK was still around and the Neo was alive. Nowadays there are just some remnants of the past to discuss and polls la "What's the best Fatal Fury?" won't make it any better.

In regard of moderation I would like to have the threads stay more on-topic. I mean come on it's ng.com... but the usual suspects are prone to derail any kind of thread be it marketplace or elsewhere. That's kinda annoying especially if there is actually something to discuss about.

I think the political views banning makes it difficult to make a bold statement for fear you won't be given the opportunity to defend your stance.

I have seen many things debated here, some I disagree others I agree with, but I always came away knowing more on the topic.

    Basically I agree with you.

The thing is, I don't like when the healthy distrust everyone doing online deals should have turns into blind rejection of ppl just because they technically fall into a certain category. In other words, we've had many scammers and bootleggers from France, Italy and Spain in recent years but it's kinda counter-productive for the well-being of the market to put all people from these countries under general suspicion and try to drive them away. This happened a lot in the last few years and is one of the reasons why only a few people from said countries can be bothered to post in the main forums, even though they're valuable members and could make lotsa worthwhile contributions.

And no, this has nothing to do with me being Euro, I'd say the same things if we'd be talking about Chinese or Aussies or whatever ppl here.

We have a new products discussion thread with the OP posting Cooking Mama pics.

When another OP got a little playful in the ngpc multi thread, it was handled differently.

More consistent moderation in these threads is needed.

The problem is some mods moderate subjectively. If they like someone (or someone will complain to Shawn) they have more power vs any other member. If a member was a chat regular 10 years ago, he can participate in the market without contributing elsewhere. Other members get a warning or war room locked. There is no rhyme or reason other than if a mod likes you personally or not. The rules are essentially useless here, mods just do whatever they feel at the time.

Let's not get started on the problems chat has caused the forums.

Shit said there should stay there.

Bans, etc. nonwithstanding, this has good and bad sides. The bad side is collateral damage caused by a particularly bad day a mod had at the time he funstered with an account, on the good side, ppl get away with loads and loads of things that would call for disciplinary actions according to the rules on a daily basis.

For example, if I'd follow the general rules to a T, I would have to give you yellow and red cards for trolling in threads outside of the War Room and eventually a timeout, ultimately followed by a perma-ban. As this would be a way too draconic way of handling things and against all what ng.com stands for, you get leeway and that's that. The key here is to use the consequences of the general laissez-faire wisely, because not all members agree with the leeway you and some others get.

And that's just one example of the schizoid crap you have to deal with here...

I think you need to lay off the noobs in the marketplace. I also think you need to welcome back folks who operate like ckchan and tomcat. They didn't really contribute to anything but they fueled the market and kept bringing in new folks to the site. The witch Hunt was a great idea when it started, but man did it get out of hand.

I think you need some new folks here because the threads are the same 10 people laying into one another....it's stale. As much shit as people talk, if it wasn't for madman and lonesage making random topics this place would be a fucking ghost town.

Lastly, you need moderators that stick around for more then a few months. Rot Charlie and Tak are not enough.

My only privs would be in the war room.

We always used to have some stumbling blocks for newbies who tried too hard to fit in, you never got auto-accepted here. That was part of the initiation process, caused lots of funny threads and made ng.com to what it is (or was?). However, the market was always special and NEVER got affected by the usual funstering, until a few years ago when things changed to the worse.

That's one of the things I would want to improve/change. Am I wrong with that?

I was hoping more of the Neosd crowd would stick around and contribute more... it seems for every 100 members accounts I activate.... only 1 is of note...

As for more mods... I'm unsure that would solve anything...

    +1

i don't think getting new members is the issue here. new people come on here all the time but we have a habit of chasing them away with our "initiation" process.

i think if we really wanted new members, we could give some of those fooks a chance and they might stay a while . but we have a certain mind frame here that doesn't agree with the majority out there which will never change.

neo geo.com certainly isn't for every one.

Tak, I don't think I ever attacked the french besides the frogot jokes. I even call myself that. I'm no Uncle Ruckus. I don't hate my own kind. I'm a frogot, always been and will always be. Vive le quebec tabarnack. I just know how to differentiate a rotten apple from a good one. Something the french scene desperately needs I think. We must get rid of all those scammers and their associates and it just won't happen by closing our eyes nor giving them our money.

When I go after someone, I have my reasons. I always back up my words with screenshots and links. I know what's going on in the french scene and I can tell you that a scammer made money through those Ghostlop carts and that's the problem I have with Mathieu. He's not only ignoring Atomikwave's victims and actively supporting his work, he's also helping him make money by creating stickers, inserts and manuals.

The worst part was his reaction when I confronted him about it. All he said was lies and more lies. I mean, just look at the links. He even back stabbed his own friend to make himself look better in hopes to get some sales going. If that's not a rotten apple, I don't know what is.
