Same. I didn't really care about Tekken 7 before, but call me a bandwagon jumper. This has me interested.

EDIT: MvCI's reveals didn't trend, but guess what did? Fucking Geese Howard does.

You mean to tell me the FGC isn't revolving around Capcom right now ('cept for the "functions" shit.)

Honestly it makes me happy that the FGC is getting hype over other titles. Personally I see MVCI fizzling out fast. While Capcom declares they are done w/ fighters for a while. I'd like to know other companies will be there to pick up the slack.

this is so stupid

akuma in tekken 7 was fucking STUPID and Tekken dropped the fucking ball at or after Tekken 4. Tekken 3 had so much style and promise and now we have the worst shit in the world with crossovers that dont make any fucking sense

I've been thinking of picking this up. I haven't properly played Tekken since 3. This just made my mind up.

If you haven't played any of the later releases. T7 is probably the closest to the original trilogy in every way. It's been on sale already somewhere since release but if you wait a few more months this should drop to $30. The PS4/PC releases are very good. XB1 version is rough, long load time and graphics are somewhat noticeable step down.

Okay, I'll bite what makes the later games no style shitty games compared to the earlier titles? Personally I thought Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection was good, and although Tag 2 has it's shortcomings it's still fun.

P.S. Geese is part of the DLC package which so far consists of Tekken Bowling and Geese with another character slated to release in Spring for $20 for everything.

The gameplay isn't always bad, but from what I've seen of T7 its kind of a letdown. Like, it almost looks like Tekken 5 would be more fun to play or something. Wasn't a fan of the "dynamic stages" which really just turn games into really stupid reflex stories or w/e. I watched a playthrough and the whole thing was a mess and I had zero interest in playing it myself. The thing that happened with Tekken is they lost some crunch to their story and they diminished in style. Just compare the costumes, personalities, story arcs of Tekken 3 to any of the other games. Tekken 4 was sort of interesting storywise but you could see it start to fall. When Tekken 3 came out we were shown a realistic world of corporations, fighting, and some very unconventional mythology (Aztec fighting god Ogre was a neat supplement I think). The characters had really good costumes, the music went with the atmosphere, it just made everything about Tekken BELIEVABLE, as was the whole point in the game in general, a 3D martial arts based fighter.

It just seems to me that the tired bullshit between Heihachi and Kazuya should have stayed fucking dead and never come back. I dont know how present it was in Tekken 6 but it was the same fucking garbage in Tekken 5, shitty new characters included.

Its a fan service game and this is a fan service DLC.

Tekken will have a character design that doesn't suck for the first time!

Is this free?

Is anything free these days? Especially in fighting games. You have to pay for character palette swaps, not to mention costumes, stages, music or characters. To this date I haven't bought the other half of the roster in Street Fighter x Tekken, because I'm against this type of practice, and I vote with my wallet.

Virtua Fighter 4 had an absurd amount of costume add-ons, but it could all be obtained in game. While this is still theoretically possible in Street Fighter V, the cost in game points [or whatever they're called] is absurd. Plus, you're forced to play online to obtain them, because running through the story mode grants you a one time payout.

I'll wait for a more complete disc release of Tekken 7, thank you very much. Hopefully it will be released, just like Mortal Kombat Komplete and XL were. Unfortunately, I do notice that publishers are learning how this new market operates, and seeing how willing everyone is to pay for scraps, they are in turn unwilling to release non digital, complete revisions.

As for Geese himself, I have no problem with him being in Tekken. The series has clearly dropped its plot a long time ago and is focusing on gameplay alone. Tag and Tag 2 did not care about the story. More fighters, more fun. However, seeing Geese in Tekken 7 does make me want KoF XIV models to look like his [with that level of fidelity, not look LIKE him].

That's what i'll probably do,i haven't played a tekken game since part three.

The last one I played was the free one on ps3. I think that's Tekken 5.

Tekken's never really been my thing (though I somehow manage to end up with all of them in some form) but it'll be fun to wreck their collective shop with the baddest gangster in video games.

Also not sure what rich, deep story everyone was gleaming from the 30-second CG clips back in the 90s that somehow got ruined in the last 10-15 years. Tekken's story has always been generic Japanese nonsense.

My beef has been how little the games change from game to game mechanically.

Same boat here. I share the exact same sentiment. Just would add the shitty characters that were added in T6 and the increased dose of goofiness.

I think T7 is a good step, but not enough to get me hooked, especially after getting into DoA5 (which I also dropped due to the soft porn shift bullshit).

I guess that stems from Tekken being compared to other games from that time, especially Virtua Fighter, which had some sort of a story, but you had to read all about it in the manual. I remember how disappointed I was with the lack of proper CG endings and intros in Namco games past Tekken 3. Tekken Tag had an intro, sure, but the endings were all in-engine, short and had the same damn music. Soul Calibur had a in-engine intro and static images as endings, which was ridiculous given the quality of everything else.

People complain about the story, but I think they mean the presentation. I remember how Tekken 5 brought it back for a minute. Great intro, humorous endings with good quality CGI, not to mention in-game graphics. Anyway, story is the last thing on developer's mind, or so it seems. Fighting games are first released, and get the story mode later [SFV, KoFXIV].

Sadly, DoA is destined to be Fisher Price Virtua Fighter with embarrassing real doll titillation for lonely weebs until the end of time.

As for Tekken, the goofiness has always been part of its charm to me. The more recent Final Fantasy games are what happens when inherently stupid Japanese shit takes itself too seriously. Tekken tries to balance the melodramatic ridiculousness of its core story (people with stupid hair being repeatedly thrown in to volcanoes) with dumb shit like bears and sumo wrestlers and pro wrestlers in tiger masks. Not sure how Bob or the robot girl are any more ridiculous than Kuma or Roger or the sumo wrestler or Angel. Seems pretty well in keeping with Tekken's history.
